#v1919 Continuing with this theme of splitting boyfriends in half we have this ensemble from 1989. The pattern had two different skirt versions, everything lined, probably shoulder pads. Looks like I pattern matched the tartan but it surprises me that I bothered😎 This was a big year for weddings amongst our friendship group. I used Thai Silk that I bought from Liberty It is an adorable fabric to wear and relatively easy to sew so I don't understand why it is hardly seen these days. It is luxurious but just enough body for a structured style. I trimmed my hat with matching fabric. I still have the hat. Even though Melbourne is in lockdown, this hasn’t stopped me from buying sewing patterns at all. My latest acquisition is a bundle of vintage Vogue patterns from the late 1980s - early 1990s. The majority of them came without envelopes, but even those contained a few hidden gems. I’ve trawled around the internet to try and find pictures of the envelopes, and here are a few of my favourites, as well as my picks of the ones that came complete. Fun fact; I made the Dior suit many years ago but lost track of the pattern. Back then I was all about the pencil skirt, but if I do make it again I’d be going for the full skirt for that classic 50s silhouette. #v1919 was the perfect pattern for my sister’s elegant wedding! I’ll put together a highlight of all the stories I made as I sewed it, but the bottom line is I highly recommend this pattern. It was nerve-wracking and exciting to sew such a complicated project. It reminded me that I sew because it’s fun and a way to stretch myself. I don’t have any photos of the back but it kicks out with more volume and movement below the knees which was so fun! I altered the construction to accommodate a sheer outer layer, and I skipped the horsehair braid in the flounces because there was no good way to hide it. The beaded trim sits on top of a neckband. Fitted lined dress has round neckline with purchased beaded trim. Bodice has side front and back seams, shoulder flounces with horsehair braid, thread carriers, invisible back zipper, hook and eye closure at back of neck, and finished narrow hem.
