It took me a little while to decide on my second wedding guest outfit. I knew I wanted to use a pattern that was easy to construct because I was limited with time and I didn’t have any capacity to make a toile or to engage in complex fitting activity. The first thing I did was to pick the fabric. I chose four metres of Scuba Stretch Knit Fabric Red on Black, purchased from Minerva. I was a little concerned that the fabric may not be appropriate for the weather but in actuality it was fine. I eventually settled on McCalls 7683 which I know fits really well because I made one back in 2021 for my new years dress. When you have to whip something up with short timescales, it’s always better to use a pattern you’ve made before. The only alternation was in the length of the skirt - I think I took off about five inches. ✨ Party dress ✨ Here's a little throwback to a party dress I made 2 years ago for my husband's formal work do. I made @simplicitymccallsuk #m7683 using sequin fabric (core range sequin ITY silky stretch fabric) gifted from @minervadotcom I fully lined the dress with lining fabric bought from Minerva. (In fact I remember emailing the team to ask for help and they gave me great suggestions for a lining fabric to work with the stretch fabric, so I took their advice and it was perfect). Whilst I looked fab 💃🏻🤩 I felt absolutely dreadful. I was 8 weeks pregnant with little R and had just gotten over covid. Safe to say I was in bed long before midnight. I was proud of this make. I am back to reality after my summer holiday in Uganda. I made a number of items for the holiday but this was my proudest make. I made this dress to wear to my nephew's wedding and I got loads of compliments. This is an altered #mccalls7683, a pattern I used to make my 40th birthday dress. I was not a fan of the straight skirt and I also wanted to omit the slit. I cut the skirt just above the knee and added flounce. I was much happier with this version. Loved watching this show. The cast and costumes were amazing, and Elsa’s quick change—wow! 🤯 I had some bamboo jersey in “icy blue” in my stash which I thought would be a perfect nod to Elsa. I used McCalls #M7683 (one-shoulder bodice with circle skirt option). The only modifications were shortening the back bodice a bit and sewing 1/4” elastic into the waist seam allowance to stabilize the waist. Without that elastic, the waist seam tended to grow and droop from the weight of the skirt. . This was a relatively quick sew- I started this project two days before the show and had it cut out and sewn up in the first evening and hemmed the skirt and collar the following day. . I accessorized the look with a Snowgie shoulder plush (attached with a magnet), which had absolutely no issues staying put the entire evening, including the commute to the theatre and back home via walking and Skytrain.

Shining, shimmering, splendid…🧞‍♂️🧞‍♂️🧞‍♂️Aladdin (the musical) was so much fun!!! . This jumpsuit - made by mashing together the off shoulder bodice of McCalls #M7683 with the pants of #M8047 - is dressy enough for going out to the theatre but comfy enough for watching movies on the couch. I used a bamboo rayon French terry from @Dressew. . Pattern notes - the off shoulder bodice of McCalls 7683 has the same pattern piece for front and back and resulted in some bunching under the arms. I would pinch this out from the front if I were to make this again. Also, I raised the lowest point of the neckline by 3 cm. . Jumpsuit mashing notes: pants are already quite high waisted so I added 5 cm of length only to the bodice pattern at the waist to allow for adjustments. Turns out I didn’t need all of this extra length (I just needed 1-2 cm) but it was good to have extra just in case. I sewed 3/8-inch elastic into the waist seam allowance for stability and support. . I added 5 cm to the length of the McCalls 8047 pants pattern at the hem. This extra length was needed for wearing with heels (I am 5’6” without heels). . #memadestyle #imakemyclothes #disneybounding

Ma robe de fête 🎉 Coucou, ici c'est l'histoire d'une robe dont le tissu @torrettotessuti à été récupéré dans son colis chez ma grand mère le jour de Noël, lavé le soir même à Bienne chez mon homme, emporté avec moi sur les pistes à Grindelwald, découpé dans la maison familiale des Cévennes, pour que la robe soit finalement prête à être cousue le 31 décembre chez moi, pour la porter le soir même ! L'histoire du patron utilisé est encore plus folle: j'ai voulu faire le haut de la #robeazureen de @comme_une.fleur et @maureen.passion.couture que j'avais déjà testé et approuvé, combinée avec le bas de la robe #m7683 #ScarlettMcCalls @mccallpatterncompany mais en plus court et non fendue. Sauf que... Le résultat n'était vraiment pas flatteur à ma silhouette ! J'ai tenté plein de choses pour améliorer ça, je commençais à stresser de ne pas réussir à finir la robe à temps, et que ce soit un échec... Et finalement, idée de dingue, je retourne la robe pour porter l'endroit sur mon dos et le dos sur le devant. Et au lieu de faire un nœud je couds les croisures ensemble sur la taille. Et là jackpot, elle est parfaite! Je l'ai finie à peine 30 minutes avant de devoir partir pour la soirée du Nouvel An, autant dire que j'ai eu chaud ! Sadly, I don’t have access to my sewing machine, and I have been craving a good sewing session. So here’s a #throwback to last February. Huge shout out to @suzieannem 's mother, who was an integral part of this. Since we made the decision to get married in the winter, the idea of using velvet for the dress came to mind. First, I tried a few dresses on, but we soon brainstormed and discussed the reality of making a dress in about a month. Quick brain dump on #m7683 for a beautiful fall wedding because I have a lot of feelings about this pattern. ✂️✂️✂️ Pattern: M7683 Size: 6 Adjustments: Eliminated waist seam, used petite waist and hip suggestions. Reduced 2” from the leg (with a 2” hem - folded in 1/2” then another 1 1/4 - 1/2” it grazes the floor and is perfect for 2 to 2 1/2” heels). Used a 1/2” seam allowance all around. Next time I would also “petite” the shoulder overlay and turn it into a foldable rectangle so it can be two pattern pieces instead of four. And do a proper maternity hack with ruching. Notes: This pattern has a lot of ease for using stretch fabrics (28” finished waist for size 6 with my seam allowance). The overlay doesn’t sit flat all the time so it looks messy - probably just need to tighten the elastic) and parts of the seam allowance flips out at times at the shoulders and needs hand tacking to stay down. Otherwise, the pattern is straightforward and the front slit was a fun new skill to learn. ✨✨✨ Fabric: Brick sand washed poly modal jersey from @califabrics Notes: In love with this color. It moves nicely and doesn’t curl up terribly when you cut it. I think it is more 50% stretch than 100% though so keep that in mind. 💃🏻💃🏻💃🏻 Overall, didn’t love this dress per say but happy to have experimented and that it’s associated with good memories 💕 #sewing #sewcialists #maternitysewing #petitesewing

My #makenine2022 wasn’t as successful as I’d hoped but I did manage 5 and a half of them (I did a toile of the #portobellotrousers but didn’t get round to making a wearable pair.) I’m still planning on making the #pippipinafore and my first make in my sewing class will be the princess coat.
