Today’s outfit: dressed for five loads of laundry! And lugging a dozen plant trays into and out of the greenhouse. It’s been still too cold to plant the earliest ones but maybe tomorrow? #V9112 in yarn dyed cotton/tencel blended chambray purchased years ago sat unused as it arrived with a very strong dye scent I couldn’t remove after numerous attempts. It was left to “air out” a few years. Still smells of dye but not quite as pungent. Used for this project incase it all went wrong, might sting less. * First time adding sleeves to a sleeveless pattern. Overlaid sleeveless pattern with a comfortably fitting sleeved bodice, however fear of over adjusting set in at the last minute, opted to make as few adjustments as possible. Slightly disappointed in that decision. It’s wearable, looks deceptively fine when standing still. If I flap my arms around I feel restriction across upper bust and the dress lifts up a bit. I will Try not to think about how seemingly perfect the sleeveless tissue fitting was…if only I enjoyed wearing sleeveless garments or had the capacity for perfect pattern alterations. Possible adjustments will be considered with wear in time. I don’t enjoy alterations. * Aside from the sleeves, I am pleased with the overall look achieved by exposing many of the seams. Top stitching and fraying the excess seam allowances. White and silver threads were used. 2 layers of fabric and 1 layer of I.F. with exposed seams for the collar. With the exception of the side seams (pressed open) most seams that were exposed were pressed in the direction of the patterns recommendations. A half folded strip of the fabric bias was added to the bottom hemline which resulted in 3 layers of fabric to top stitch and fray. I liked the affect that produced. I also appreciate the differently shaped seam lines and the affects of the slightly gathered locations this pattern design offered -Features I may consider applying to potential future makes. * Thank You to those who Kindly followed my experience in stories. * - Peace 🌸 * Pic 1 & 2 Outsides Front & Back. Ma robe n’est pas tout à fait terminée et je l’aime déjà d’amour. Je vous en montre quelques détails que j’apprécie tout particulièrement. Le col ajoute beaucoup d’originalité et d’élégance à cette robe. Le col est à l’origine non doublé mais j’ai choisi de le doubler avec le tissu contrastant afin d’éviter qu’on que l’envers du tissu ne se voit. Cela faisait aussi un rappel intéressant avec les deux pièces coupées dans le même tissu. La parementure du col et les biais finissant les emmanchures ont eux aussi été taillés dans le coton à petits motifs. Le tissu principal est lui en lin. J’ai trouvé les deux chez Toto il y a x années. J’ai vraiment hésité longuement avant d’utiliser ce lin très artsy mais je crois que j’ai trouvé ici le parfait combo patron tissu. Le patron est signé #marcytilton pour #voguepatterns. Comme je le pressentais, ce patron taille grand. J’aurais pu l’ajuster un peu, mais cette robe étant destinée aux grandes chaleurs, j’y serai à l’aise. J’ai seulement raboté les épaules d’un centimètre. La prochaine fois (car prochaine fois il y aura) je remonterai les emmanchures et reprendrai un peu les côtés. Ma nouvelle future robe avance vite. Pas d’entoilage, j’ai choisi de ne pas coudre de poches et j’ai coupé le dos en une seule pièce contrairement aux deux préconisées par les instructions. J’ai hésité entre utiliser une seul tissu ou utiliser un tissu contrastant et j’ai finalement opté pour la deuxième solution ce qui m’a permis d’avoir plus de manœuvre pour le placement des motifs. My dress is made from 3 charity shop scarves using #v9112 I had great fun deciding how to use the different designs and especially the tassels. The only problem is the fabric used for scarves isn't very durable and sliding in and out of cars and trains has taken its toll on the back seam. So my #waiwot has been to stabilise the lower back with silk organza and machine sewing. Some almost invisible and other parts have become part of the design. Still catching up on old makes from a month or so ago 🤷‍♀️ This is #v9112 a Vogue patterns by Marcy Tilton in cupro from @wearethefabricstore A weird make really! Took ages to cut this out as not one piece is the same so it's all cut on the flat - doggos not helpful here...plus I decided to cut half the pieces on the opposite grain *not the bias* to create stripes going in all directions for an even crazier pattern effect. I love how it turned out but cutting took lots of brain power! I made a straight medium without adjusting length as I'm only 5'3" tall and most commercial patterns are drafted for people 3" taller than me. I probably should have done a full bust adjustment but the odd patteen pieces were throwing my size guesses off and it does fit, just catches at the bust line if I'm wearing a 'big' bra. It is on the short size so if you're taller than me might want to lengthen otherwise it could be more tunic than dress! I had to redo the collar twice as the original was single layer only and too floppy even in the crisp cupro so I cut a second in same fabric, interfaced it lightly and sandwiched them together before sewing into the neckline so now the collar can stand up and show off the structure. I skipped the bias over the neck seam finish as a result as it's inside the dress and it was easiest to overlock instead for neatness. The cupro was interesting to sew with - I bought it on clearance from @wearethefabricstore in Adelaide before they closed and it feels most like very thin or light dupion silk - crisp and papery but not heavy, it was perfect for this dress and you can see the structure in the last picture with swooshing! Plus it's made sustainably from wood pulp waste I believe! This was one of those sews where it took ages to start but by the end I loved it! Made a wearable toile of Marcy Tilton’s Vogue 9112 #v9112 this weekend — it was super fun and turned out great, I think. Fabric is $5/yd on sale cotton calico from Joann’s - I thought the artsy print would look good on this artsy dress, plus I could play with the print running vertically and horizontally. Ogling the fabric with the pattern pieces in hand, I ran the fabric horizontally on the collar and three bottom pieces (faint lavender stripes running horizontally), the main body pieces, stripes running vertically. Like others who have made this, I faced the collar with the same fabric and added one piece of fusible facing for additional stiffness. In first photo you can see I’m experimenting with folding the collar down for more neck. That said, having it up per the pattern — second photo — is kinda fancy. Straight up Medium, next time I will try a Small; Only mod is that I gave myself another 1”-plus at the bottom of armhole, it was feeling a bit small there for me; I’m 5’7” / 150 lbs. for comps. Good morning. It's cold and will get colder today. I was running late and just threw this quilted #LindenSweatshirt (only goes up to a 44" bust?! For some reason I thought @grainlinestudio had updated this pattern with extended sizing, but I can't find it on their website. Can't recommend this pattern with this size range, there are lots of other sweatshirt patterns that are more size inclusive) over my #v9112 Marcy Tilton dress. The dress is equally limited in sizing, it only goes up to a 48" bust (not sure what the actual finished measurements are in the pattern, but if anyone is interested I can go find it in my pattern stash). Both of these patterns are ones I bought when I first started sewing 5 (6? I don't remember) years ago, and fewer brands had an expanded size range at that time. A couple of years ago I made a choice to only buy new patterns from brands that designed for larger sizes (at least up to 58-60"), although I fit into conventional, straight sized patterns. I have mostly been able to stick to that commitment. And I would get in touch with designers and ask what their plans were for expanding their size ranges, because although I'm a person who fits their current sizing, I can still hopefully be an advocate for change. I would encourage any of you who follow me who are in the same position to also reach out to brands and designers with the same questions, and to avoid continued support of brands who won't expand for whatever reason. The conversation has been happening for so long, there is no excuse really. If it means I don't sew or knit a cool pattern I like, then oh well. There are lots of other patterns to buy, right?

Happy New Year 🥳 I was going to make this dress for Frocktails but have come up with a better plan for that so I wore it for a New Years Eve party at our house last night. The pattern is Marcy Tilton for Vogue #v9112. Fabric is silk with small embroidered mirrors that I bought from @wearethefabricstore. It was white when I bought it, I dyed it using some shibori tie dying patterns. Love that the embroidery around the mirrors is synthetic so resisted the dye and stayed white. Also, loving the downstairs deck area that we have created and the festoon lights we got for Christmas from my parents. Perfect entertaining area.

My Vogue V9112 by Marcy Tilton is finally finished! Vintage brushed cotton (flannelette) in paisley design, with some modern coordinating flannelette for sleeves and pockets. The sleeves were my addition. I also made a lining for the collar and interfaced it after reading reviews. And I also lengthened the hemline by 7cm. The length is still roughly knee length-ish on me which is a great practical length and makes moving and sitting easier than the shorter length. Love this Marcy Tilton design for its asymmetry, puzzle piece construction, and unique collar. It's actually pretty easy to put together and offers a lot of opportunity for creativity.
