cozy with who I am 🖤 ICYMI: my new coat that I made with sewing pattern #M8438. I love this coat so much - from the length, wide lapels and tie belt. Plus the pre quilted fabric gives it a little something extra. I know that some might turn their nose up at pre quilted fabric but I actually like it. It cuts down on sewing and prep work by A LOT. Plus I don’t think I have the patience to sew all those rows if we’re being totally honest. 😅 What are your thoughts on pre quilted fabric? Let me know in the comments.

McCall's M8438. I made a size 6 graded to a 14 at the hip, and it fits great! Didn't make any other adjustments. It was actually pretty easy to sew up except the bottom hem. This week we are having a heat wave and I finished my flannel vest sewing project lol!! When I started on this vest 2 weeks ago we were waking up to 10° C in the mornings...now it is currently 32° 🔥🥵 But I had this fabric and nothing else to sew at the moment so I thought I would have some fun and make a vest for the fall. This project was a bit more advanced than I'm used to because it's a lined coat (even though I made the sleeveless version) and I found the instructions pretty confusing at times. I'll be honest, it's definitely not perfect but I really love the end result. I'd like to knit a navy blue turtleneck sweater to go with this in the future! Some patterns just try to take you out! And how come it’s the simplest ones that do that 😂 My first make of the year is McCalls 8438 in a beautiful boiled wool. After my last coat this was going to be a breeze…. The pattern itself is very straightforward with a little twist on the side and sleeve panel. The problem for me was that it was way oversized and if completed as per instructions it looked like I was wearing my dad’s coat or bathrobe. I did read reviews and sized down, however some of it is the dropped shoulders and the amount of fabric at the shoulder. I have said before it is not the best look on me because of my frame however I really was drawn to the pattern. I took this apart not once but twice shrinking the side panel that ran from hem to sleeve end. Still not happy I ended up omitting that entire piece and have a snug fitting jacket in the loveliest of fabrics. It works for me as I often wear coats and jackets open. If you plan on making this pattern do a toile first or be aware of finished sizing. I love it now but if I am being honest I thought this was the project to end my sewing!! I was so excited when starting as this is my first project in a boiled wool and I love the color and texture. The wool was a pleasure to sew and really offers a lot of warmth.
