Had to run it back. Last year when I made this dress it was too large in the back. So, scaled down the size, went with more of a ponte type knit, and ended up going view A instead of B cause I didn't feel like re-cutting the pattern. For my brother’s wedding I wanted to make a dress that was fun to dance in, light and timeless. This was the most challenging construction so far for me (lining the dress, using interfacing, adding a zipper) I also adjusted the bust to fit my body in a more comfortable way. More summer sewing. This time a simple @brandijoan #m8383 dress in a remnant viscose knit from @pitttrading. I left out the signature keyhole at the back and cut the back piece on fold minus seam allowance. This was a very quick sew, but I found lots of ease in the pattern so I had to take the bust in by about 12cm total from the underarm seam graded to waist. Measurements put me at size 16 but I think because it requires at least 50% stretch fabric I could have definitely gone smaller. This was meant to be a toile but I actually love this fit so much. This is my favorite time of the year. Not only do I get to decorate like crazy and watch all the Holiday movies, but I get to make gowns and fancy clothes AND actually have somewhere to wear them. In my stash, I have lots of sparkly fabric, so I rarely have to buy any. Of course, that doesn't stop me. 🙄 I have to replenish my stash, right? 😁 This green knit has been waiting patiently for its time to shine. I try to pick a different color each year for this annual ball, and it just happened to coordinate with what the hubby wore. Our son gave us side eye for the holiday colors. 😄 I used a mashup of two of @brandijoan patterns to start, and then I hacked it to create the ruching on the side. It took longer to create the pattern than it did to sew it. Still, I was pretty happy with the outcome. It's really nice to be able to create what you envision. Long sleeve gowns aren't always readily available.
