My 1st entry into the #agtn24 is a #sewthelook for my daughter. We saw an advertisement for fleece overalls and thought they looked super comfy cozy. I hacked #m8437 to eliminate the waistband, the faux fly, and the button closures. All choices to reduce bulk since Polartec fleece is thick enough. I used a coordinating quilting cotton for the straps and also to provide structure where needed. I used the cotton for a zipper guard and put a side zip in as the closure. 🤞 they fit. I was going off measurements from last year but the fabric has a bit of stretch so here's hoping. Thanks from 🇨🇦 Alison @sewlikedotty for running this challenge again. It is very useful 😁

Fished a Sunday morning tournament (6:30-11:30) with Mella Yella on Lake Anna out of Fish Tales (great people) where we caught a limit but still finished 22nd out of a 20 boat field. So decided to load up and hit the Potomac for a couple hours and stuck one that almost weighed what our best five did for the tournament Ha! The refurbishment of the vintage dress I purchased is complete. This dress and some leftover fabric was received when I purchased @mccallpatterncompany Pattern #m8437 on eBay. As shown In my last post. The dress being a 68 year old dress that was made from this pattern. The top bodice not fitting and a bit tatty. 🤨 I redrafted the top of the dress and for the first time ever made a test muslin. I subsequently remade a lined version from the extra material and reattached. I replaced the belt buckle but am not happy with it, so will probably replace again. 🙄 The dress probably still needs re-hemming as it’s a bit tatty on the bottom....but wow thats a lot of hand sewing....have ordered some horse hair braid so will wait until this arrives to complete the dress. Pretty happy with the end result. I have never restored a vintage dress before. Ok, here’s a fun one - Phyllis knew about my mission to create wearable clothing out of quilt tops, so she generously gave me lots of quilt blocks she’d had in her closet for years. They were beautiful!😍 She had painstakingly pieced and/or hand-appliquéd them all. (photos 1 & 2) 😍 ❤️💙 I told her they were too nice for me to take! But she insisted she wasn’t going to use them & wanted me to give it a try. So…. challenge accepted. I stopped at several GoodWill stores looking for some overalls to embellish. What I found instead was a dark-tan queen-size sheet for $3.99, photo 3, perfect for making my own overalls using McCalls pattern #M8437 .👍 It felt so weird to cut into these beautiful quilt blocks!😱 Some became the overall’s yokes, straps and pockets Others were cut up and appliquéd onto the overalls along with scraps from my stash. When it got down to the last minute, several of my Zumbro River Fiber Arts Guild friends jumped in to help out with some final stitching.❤️🥳 Photo 6 shows Betsy hand-sewing one more quilt block onto the leg. I purchased this divine 1951 @mccallpatterncompany #m8437 pattern from a lovely lady in Geelong, but not only did I get the pattern she sent the dress her mother made from the pattern and extra fabric. I have to admit I was really after the pattern and I really did not know what I would do with the dress. When I tried it on it was beautiful....well loved but beautiful. However...the zip wouldn’t do up when I got to the chest. Bigger boobs than I thought. 😳 The pattern in the envelope has also been altered to shorten the torso...so that didn’t help. So with the extra fabric I’m hoping to redraft the top, detach the old one and attach my own. Hope it’s not a bad thing to take the dress apart and remake part of it...but I am hoping to bring the 68 year old girl back to her former glory and make it wearable, so hoping I don’t stuff this up...given it’s someone’s mother’s dress. The extra photos at the end show that the dress was meant to be made sheer and an under slip made to sit underneath. 🇫🇷⬇️ Who knew that overalls were so comfortable? Especially when done in stretched denim, they are a wonderful addition to a spring and summer wardrobe. I used the reversible aqua denim from @the_fabricclub and McCalls 8437 pattern for its gorgeous back, front waist band and wide leg. After reviewing tips from @sewingformysanity and @yogabyrdsews, I made a few adjustments to fit my body proportions, including: - narrowing the front bib by 3" - shortening the pants (2") and rise (1/4") - shortening and rounding the back piece by 3/8" I also reshaped the front pocket and added a design on all the pockets, used 3 snaps per side and lastly, added a tab at the bottom leg to roll them up. ———————————— Qui aurait cru que les salopettes étaient si confortables ? Surtout quand ils sont faits de denim extensible, ils sont un merveilleux ajout à ma garde-robe de printemps et d’été. J’ai utilisé le denim aqua réversible de @clubtissus pour créer ce look. Le patron est #M8437 avec son magnifique dos, taille et jambe large.
