I wasn’t keen on the raw edge at the bottom so added a band) and I absolutely love it. The blooming gorgeously bright baby cord I bought from @northernmonkeymakes about a year ago and knew it was always destined to be a jacket but fear stopped me from making it. It was a labour of love and took me a whole heap of hours. What else does a girl need to cheers herself up….well I put a bit of a face on. "Green Day" was probably one of my favorite looks of mine in the show. I had the most fun modeling in it too! I found the denim at @moodfabrics in NYC; right when I saw it I knew I had to have it! The skirt was a nightmare to make. I had to sew 5 zippers, and I hate zippers! I designed and created the skirt and the jacket was created using @mccallpatterncompany M7729 *I was not holding a real cigarette, it is a paper cigarette used purely for the aesthetic. Made another #M7729 cropped jacket from this very cute denim from @wearethefabricstore. I actually finished this several weeks ago after having cut it out back in October 2021! I had to go back and check my feed for accuracy. Y’know when you cut a pattern and then just lose the vibe for that garment? That happened to me and I’m glad I finally finished it as I plan to wear it with my #M7969 from back in November 2021.

My very good friend @ljmbooks and I have been going to the San Diego County Fair together for over 40 years. Last year I decided that I would enter a sewing project or two in the 2020 fair, which, of course, has now been postponed to 2021. The theme, Heroes Unite, was announced last November, which is when I started my plannng. I found a design on @Spoonflower featuring the women justices of the Supreme Court and have used it as the lining for a black denim jacket, McCalls #M7729. I’m telling y’all, matching skirt/jacket sets are my favorite! I have a couple planned but for now I have my @simplicity_creative_group #8699 skirt and @mccallpatterncompany #7729 cropped jacket. I fringed the hem of the jacket (mainly because I didn’t feel like hemming it by hand, which is what I would have done).

This jacket 😳 talk about slow sewing. Had to make several projects while making it to keep my cool and be sure not to rush and rip the whole thing lol. But first off, I want to say that this post might seem superficial considering everything that is happening now. I am forever grateful of my situation and know that I am privileged to still have a job and to be safe and I am not taking it for granted. But I think it’s ok to share happy news because most of us can enjoy the distraction 😄 So here it is lol This project started with the fabric (which is singular for me as it almost always start with a pattern). I fell in love and wanted to make a vintage style/ trucker jean jacket like the levis one. To me this style is timeless. It’s a good spring good. I made two jacket before this one to practice and make sure I understand how to make a jacket unlined look nice. Then I tried drafting a pattern for it using my BF jeans jacket. Made a muslin. Total disaster the fit was not good. Bought a Mc Calls pattern and made the biggest size. The construction was challenging to say the least lol I unpicked the facing and the waistband to make the sherpa side on the inside because otherwise it was too bulky. I trimed the sherpa on the wrong side everywhere I could. I also added a lining to the sleeves that polyester satin so I can slip my arms more easily which was a very good move lol I figured this one out trying on the RTW version of this jacket of a collegue from work. Yesterday I did the buttonholes and hammered the buttons. I missing two for the pockets, Fabricville is closed and Club tissus didn’t have the ones that I needed. So I decided to start wearing the jacket anyway.
