I’m slower than slow about posting lately, but I have seen a little bit. I bought this fabric at @fabricmart when I went to @carriagecornerbandb in August for the sew camp that wasn’t. @gmariesews has a dress made from the same fabric, so of course I bought all that remained on the bolt, about 4 yards. The first dress is one of my favorites, the #V9199 princess seamed dress with a hi-low hem from @vogue_patterns ; I think this makes 5 or 6 of these. The second is the OOP #M6079, which I added cap sleeves to. Since these were made during the first week of October, the short sleeved dress is just hanging around in my closet for at least the next 6 months. But it gives me something to look forward to! I also started a bundle, but that’s a post for another day (or more than one day). [Ad] It's not often I use a sewing pattern by one of the 'big' pattern companies but I really like the Vogue very easy range, which do live up to their name. I had a few fitting issues due to the enormous amount of ease in the top half but easy to sort out due to the princess seams. I wasn’t sure I could put a jungle spin on what I have been sewing in the last few weeks for the #magamsewalong in January, but of course I don’t like to pass on my favourite challenge. I have been making mostly winter dresses and pants lately, garments to wear in cold weather. With snow on the ground and outdoor activities to pursue I have been as far away from any jungle as can be. But then I took admiring look at the tropical beautiful plant I have had since Christmas that keeps unfolding amazing bloom after another amazing bloom and remembered my plans for spring travels to warmer climates. I decided to sew a summer dress that will be one of the pieces of my travelling wardrobe. This practical jersey dress is from the Very Easy Vogue series #V9199 #Vogue9199 in my pattern stash. It’s a relatively simple, 6 piece plus the sleeves,and the neck band, dress that can be sewn in an afternoon. Alas no pockets with the princess seams this time. I have used the sun protective athletic fabric by @discoveryfabrics The Sun Lite (sunlite) Jersey has a 4-way stretch and a UPF rating of 50 making it a great fabric for summer activities. It is light, smooth and soft, slightly cool to the touch that could be worn in a jungle. 🌴🦜 This is as close as I come to the jungles and the tropical themes in the Northern Hemisphere in January. I hope my loose connection to sun, warmth and idea of the tropics is enough to enter #magamsewalong After all it is all about making simple practical clothing with a bit of colour and fun, isn’t it? So, I got ambitious and opened a bundle from #carriagecornersewcamp last week. It contained 5 fabrics. I put away the gingham until spring, because it’s been around 40 overnight here for a week. I also set aside the black velvet, because I’m not ready to think about a holiday dress. So I put long sleeves on the #m6958 dress from @mccallpatterncompany . I love the pleats front and back for shaping. I also made the #v9199 princess seamed dress - it’s either my third or fourth one. I added a neckband to the pattern, and it’s great. The leftover fabric from that dress was too big to discard, but too small for anything, so I took a 1990s pattern for a princess seamed button up top, took away the buttons, squeezed all the pieces out and made a good little summer top…for next year. Last is a #coppeliacardigan from @papercutpatterns . This was a brand new pattern gifted to me at Sew Camp, and I knew I needed it in this peach sweater knit. All of these fabrics are from @fabricmart , and The last picture shows the bundle before I cut into it. I love being the Bundle Queen; the bundles all hold so much possibility! I finished my second Christmas dress! Yes, I need 2. Christmas is a multi day event around here, due to scheduling conflicts among my married children. This is my third version of the @Vogue Patterns #v9199 princess seamed dress. I shorten the front to knee length, making the asymmetric hem more dramatic. It goes together easily, although I must confess that with this dress, as with the others from this fabric, I basted and then serged the seams, so they wouldn’t slide around too much. The fabric is so heavy that I used twill tape to stabilize the shoulder seams. Well, would you look at that!!! 👗 It looks like a #tshirt but, gosh darn it, it’s a #dress. And a muckle of a project for #mucklemarch … a great theme by @judithrosalind with @sewing_in_spain and @suestoney for #magamsewalong I’ve been considering a knit fit and flare for a while, was pondering my bodice and skirt blocks to make a pattern, and Norman the #sockmonkey said, “Hey, look at this dress Dorata @librarianka made with #vogue9199 … This is it?” So yes, we bought the pattern but considering my shock at the price, I think it’s been awhile ($$). This one is a wearable toile made from leftover pieces of rayon/spandex jersey … you’ve seen it before … a year or two ago, #handstitched t-shirt for #slowseptember which I wear quite a bit. You’ll see in the details that I had to piece a corner of the skirt but on this dark colour, it will not be noticed. I traced a size based on my measurements, the finished garment measurements (I measured the pieces) and zero ease. I’m proportionately short so I shortened the tissue between my shoulder and breast point, between my breast point and waist, between my waist and hip and between my hip and hem so I wouldn’t lose the flare. Then I adjusted the sleeve to fit. I also raised and closed the neckline. A little too deep and wide for me. I did a tissue fit like my Mum taught me and found the width across the upper back and across my high bust very (very) wide. So I narrowed both upper front and back. Cut it out, and hand basted it together. It fit but was a little too snug in the waist so I let out 1/8 inch on all six seam allowances from the bust point, underarm, and back curve to the hem. I also used a neck band as you would on a t-shirt instead of woven bias tape in the pattern and hand stitched the hems with a herringbone stitch. This keeps the hem from becoming “wavey” on this soft, stretchy fabric. I have some other jersey in my stash on standby to make another, now that I’m happy with the fit. So, it’s certainly time for me to post all of my wonderful creations from #carriagecornersewcamp . 1 is #v1250 dress from an orange and white leafy knit. I’m not a fan of orange, and I really have no firm memory of where I got this fabric. All I know is that there was a bit over 2 yards of it, so in addition to this decade old pattern, I used the same fabric for… 2. Self drafted raglan sleeve cold shoulder dress. 3. This was from a box sent by @thesewciety . It’s the Aphrodite Dress by @radpatterns made in a black and white knit using the high/low hem option and the optional modesty panel. I’m too old to just wear a dress that ties in the front and shows part of my rib cage (see pic 4 for tie details. 5. #s8958 wrap skirt from my blue and white seersucker. It’s shown with #nl6626 top in a pink knit left from I have forgotten what project. 6 is a border print dress from #m6958 which I’ve made twice before. I bought this fabric at @fabricmart when we went there on that Friday, and used about half of what I bought. The border is longer than what I used, so the balance might need to be a maxi dress. 7 and 8 are #nl6080 top made from about a yard of a fantastic print I bought from @fabricmart during Sew Camp. The print isn’t symmetrical, so it was fun placing it. Swipe through for the neckline pleat details, which I love. 9 & 10 are the #v9199 princess seamed dress which I made from most of the 4 yards of the black and white knit. I used the solid black for center front and back panels, and the paisley like swoops for the side panels. Too bad I can’t wear it until probably October. Hepsibah will wear it for a while for me. For one day I can join in the 7 day #bpsewvember event: Day 7: Plans for the rest of the year. 1. Biscayne Blouse from my Sewciety box for August. I really want to get that done. Next, #v9199 dress in stretch lace from @fabricmart looks like a great choice for Thanksgiving. I always need a fancy dress for that event. I need some sort of business attire for a meeting in NYC in a couple of weeks. Thinking of trying to buy a blazer, then maybe make a dress or skirt to go with it. I realized when I wore it during Christmas week that I never showed you my completed Vogue #v9199. Made from @fabricmart stretch lace over knit, whatever that might be called, it was comfortable for all day- and that one was 18 hours long! I wore it again last Friday and was just as delighted. That’s me standing in front of our mostly cleared table mashup....because how do you seat 24 people at one table? Answer: with multiple tables shoved together and through doorways!
