#sewrecreatethelook22 #donejustintime (with a one day extension! Phew!) This is #v1672, a pretty close match for the Carolina Herrera inspiration (swipe for inspo photo). I am treating this as a toile with stash fabric of questionable fibre and lining. I even used an existing zip. Jury is out on the pattern. It definitely needs pockets (easy to fix), has a strange construction order which made final zip in this fully lined dress end up without a facing (probably fixable) and the bodice needs to be adjusted (a little boob-tastic). Short sleeves are also “interesting”. Sleeve cap only goes part way around the armscye with the lower part bias bound. Need some time to puzzle. Happy Friday! Hot out of my hand-stitching hands is my 2021 birthday dress. Happy to finish it and looking forward to wearing it soon. I enjoyed making this dress. Lately, I'm wanting to make more fit and flare dress. And this is one I will make again. I used Vogue #v1672. Many have made it and I know why. 😉😊 Great dress to sew and is figure flattering. I made many changes. Some were fit and others were in the construction. I've ready posted on my blog the initial fit adjustments. So, my next blog post will include the rest of my changes. Really excited about how my new sewing project is going—I’m using the #v1672 wrap dress as a base, but altering the neckline using the jacket pattern of #v9351/#v1741. Swipe to the second photo if you’re curious how I did that—I overlapped the two bodice front pattern pieces at the shoulder seam, pinned them together and then cut the fabric with that new neckline. Overall I’m really pleased with how it’s turning out although I wish the lapel notches were a bit crisper in the corners where fabric is pooling. (I trimmed the seam allowance veryyyy close, but it’s still pooling a bit. Any advice for how I can get a crisper corner next time?). This is for a dress inspired by one @lydiamillen designed. Every project is actually about learning new skills. This one was all about bias tape! I did Hong Kong seams everywhere — no joke with a six-panel skirt — and used bias tape to finish off the sleeves, armholes, and hem. This was also my first time inserting sleeves since I was a teenager! Slowly getting over my sleeve sewing phobia. 🧵Pattern: #v1672 with added pockets and front skirt slit, minus skirt and sleeve lining because I live in the tropics. 🧵Fabric: The loveliest medium-weight berry @tessutifabrics linen. It heals very well, considering I redid all the top stitching and zipper (wasn’t happy with initial color of either). Vogue pattern #v1672 made with a 4-ply silk crepe. This is the second time I used this pattern. I made the cap sleeves version a while back. I like how it turned out but the woven cotton I used really didn’t have the drape that would showcase the full skirt. This time around I made the long sleeve version in silk. The dress really looks great in motion. My only complain is that it’s rather hard to zip it up all the way by myself. Presenting my Marcy dress! A few years ago, there was a #sewfrosting challenge that my friends and I decided to revive between ourselves during the 14(?) weeks of lockdown in Sydney this year. The challenge was to sew something over the top and fun that you wouldn’t normally wear- something to combat the lockdown blues. We had a vague theme of layers but from there you could do whatever you want! I knew immediately that I wanted to do something big, bold and colourful to channel the joy @marcyharriell brings! I’ve been wanting to use wax prints so I found this fabulous fabric from @authentique_collections_ on Etsy. I had originally planned to try boning but covid supply issues scuppered that so I used the bodice with straps from #s9297 (by @gertie18) and the skirt from #v1672. I added the ruffle at the bottom to use every inch of my 6 yards of wax print (and I don’t have an overlocker so did it with gathering stitches which took approximately 17 million years to do). #waiwot Having bought this amazing heavy linen in Venice last year, I haven't dared to cut into it. This had a beautiful border print fading into white. I had trouble figuring out how to use it without disturbing the border print. Well I bit the bullet and cut into it. The top is from V1672 and the skirt I just used the whole length of the fabric (1seam) and created 4 big pleats. No pockets as didn't want to disturb the pattern. Ended up with a very feminine dress. All that's left to do is wrap the armhole seams in bias binding. Then it's done. I am grateful to see another year. Today, it is super cold in the midwest. This is what I wore to church on Sunday morning (boots instead of shoes). By far my biggest make to date is my wedding dress! I didn't want to spend a ton of money on a dress I'd only wear once. So instead, I spent $150 on fabric and a ton of hours creating a dress that I love and can wear again! I didn't want anything traditional, so I went with an autumnal floral print on an ivory background, a mid-length skirt, and (of course) pockets. I learned so much during this process about fitting and now have a bodice block that I can use for other makes. @theclosethistorian's videos were invaluable during the bodice drafting process!
