Another Christmas dress I made to wear during the week of Dapper Day at Disneyland! This might be my favorite; the fabric is a Rifle Paper Company Christmas lights print with gold metallic details, and the pattern is a mashup of Butterick 6849 (the overall look: armscye, sleeve, neckline, collar) and Butterick 5748 (side seams, darts- I only brought this one in because I love the fit). Happy Valentine’s Day! I present you with my finished @papercutpatterns #stackerjacket with added #weltpockets (using tutorial from @professorpincushion). I followed the sage advice provided by @fauxgetaboutit and seconded by @naughtybobbinpatterns and went with sew-on snaps to avoid the dreaded wavy buttonhole that often happens with oversized buttons. I made Papercut’s size 4 with no mods to the sizing. I’ve already adjusted the pattern piece adding 1.25” to the sleeve length for future versions because #longarms. I’m wearing my Stacker with a plaid pocket infinity scarf by @patternsforpirates, black corduroy @mccallpatterncompany #m7547 (aka #m8162 or #angiemccalls )overalls, and a black micro dot babywale corduroy @simplicity_creative_group #b6849 button down shirt. Yesterday I visited the John James Audubon Center where they had Earth Day events going on, and while there I took advantage of the gorgeous surroundings to grab some pics of my new mushroom print dress. I used Butterick 6849 for the bodice and borrowed a skirt from a different pattern. The original skirt fit me so badly. I took one look at it and thought to myself that it would take ages to fix it — not worth the trouble. The shame of it is that the #B6849 skirt features 8 darts, so that was a lot of work that went down the drain. Not crazy about the fit I got on the bodice, either. It started off being too loose around the waist, but by the time I was done bringing it in, it was a little too tight. 🤷‍♀️ I added a belt with buckle and that helped. The belt is probably my favorite part of this project; I’ll be able to use it to dress up other outfits. A frustrating project overall, but hey, it’s wearable, and the fabric is cute. The fabric is from @moodfabrics in L.A. which is this awesome cotton jacquard fabric with a chevron pattern woven into the cloth and a bird print on top. It is lightweight, crisp but not stiff and does not wrinkle too much. We were actually planning on going to NYC last fall but obviouly could not go. I feel like I am always sewing a couple months ahead of whatever occasion or holiday I'm inspired by! I made this Christmas dress back in late October so I could wear it to Disneyland when I was there mid-November. This pattern is a mash-up of Butterick 5748 (for most of the bodice) and Butterick 6849 (for the armscye and sleeve) with a free-handed bateau neckline. I just used a simple gathered skirt with it. The fabric is a Moda quilting cotton from a couple of years back. I attended Dapper Day and decided to do lots of Christmas-themed outfits for the whole week, since I knew the Disneyland resort would be putting up their decorations early.
