Almost 24 miles of bias binding…sorry, meant metres 🤪…and my entry for #SewTogetherForWinter is done 😅…sew excited to have a #memade toasty overcoat to cover those long hemlines and be wearing it out on an unusually sunny day 😁 ❄️ This is New Look 6585 with added tie-belt…undecided on whether to add belt loops…let me know what you think. Sized down, then took some width out of the sleeve (easy with a 2-part sleeve 👍) as there’s only so much oversizing I’m comfortable with. I swear when I make something that looks shit hot and feels super comfy I do a little happy dance 😂 I did said dance once I finished this coat and already am planning to make a beige version ✨Fun fact with this make is I actually sewed the pocket pieces the wrong way up so there’s an obvious texture difference and I didn’t have the heart to unpick them. My coat of dreams ✨ Hot off the sewing machine is this gorgeous coat made in a navy wool. As part of @minervadotcom #SewnWithNewLook challenge I used the N6585 pattern to make a wonderful addition to my winter wardrobe! This coat is unlined and has an oversized hood so feels super casual and easy to wear. I added my own tie belt to create an ever more casual vibe and just adore how this has come out! ❤️ Was super easy to sew and came together rather quickly, I sewed a size small with no adjusments. Paired with my @tedbaker boots 😘 The #N6585 pattern is by @simplicitymccallsuk

It’s the coldest I can remember it being in this area! 🥶 (Hitting a low of 14 degrees Fahrenheit / -10 degrees Celsius) We even had some snowfall ~ not enough to build up on the ground, though some even farther south than us did. My granddaughter got to experience snow for the first time ~ so sweet! 🤍🤍🤍 So anyway, I made a coat! 🙃 I used this pretty boiled wool that has been in my stash for so long that I don’t remember where or when I got it. Presumably when I lived somewhere with cold weather! I used #NewLook6585 ~ view B. I added buttons and buttonholes. The buttons were in my stash and I think the pink works! 💗 Do you line your pockets? I always like to do that ~ I don’t like to reach in and feel raw edges, and a bit of reinforcement is usually good anyway! I included photos of how I line them, in case anyone is interested 😏 Keep swiping to see little Josie in the snow. Quilt-coat-along: back piece Here is a look at the back piece I’m preparing for my second ever quilt coat. I learned a lot when I worked on my first quilt coat. Here are my tips so far: 1) Use an actual pattern. I’m good enough that I can self draft some things, but not skilled enough to have those self-drafted things always be home runs. Here I decided to use NewLook #n6585 2) No batting…radical, I know. My first quilt coat could be such a struggle under the machine, and then it was quite stiff once completed. For this one I’m “quilting” the outside/ pieced layer with the inside layer—just 2 layers. Quilt-coat-along: hood modification What am I working on today? I think I found a solution to an over-sized hood. In one sewist’s review of this pattern, she said her partner told her she looked like a boxer coming into the ring in a hooded robe. I totally get how this hood can overtake! My approach: I sewed right sides of front edges of the hood/front pieces together, but left a few well-placed slits, then folded back. I started my top-stitch quilting, but left a channel near the slits. Then I inserted a piece of 1” elastic to gather the hood’s sides and sewed the slits closed. I made a coat! And it has a Senator Palpatine hood! It's #newlook6585 and it goes up to a 48in hip. I had a lot of fun running around the park with @fivespicepower. Check out her mad photography skills! What I learned: 1) How to line and sew a patch pocket. 2) How to bias bind seams. The inside is so pretty! 3) I prefer indie PDF patterns. The instructions are easier to read, you can print multiple sizes, and the size ranges are generally better. Today was an #upcyclefashion day.
