Look who we had the pleasure of seeing and hearing her and the Stroud Ukelele band play at Sidmouth Folk Festival today! @farmerslass aka @sewing.in.somerset Kate. I finally decided that I am going to do a #makenine2025, but I'm going to be more focused about it this year. There was a new year post by @sewover50, which really helped me to make up my mind. So, because I already feel overwhelmed by my pattern and fabric stashes and I don't need to buy more, each garment on the list will use something I already own. And as this year, I have decided to ditch unrealistic New years resolutions in favour of manageable monthly goals, I'm taking the same approach to #makenine and including my sewing plans in that. My plans are: 1. A #kielowrapdress in a floral viscose jersey. I own both the fabric and pattern already. 2. #hamptonjeanjacket the second. I loved making my first one, and I wanted to recreate a long-lost rtw jacket in a thinner, darker fabric. I own both already. 3. At the end of the summer, I did a wardrobe audit and felt I could do with another pair of loose lightweight trousers. Like the #rowenajumpsuit bottoms, a pattern I already own. I also have other options in the stash. 4. I also felt I wanted another summer jumpsuit. I own the #zadiejumpsuit and #bowerymccalls, so it will be one of those. 5. I have some unsewn pleather in my stash, and although it was originally earmarked for a dress, I have a hankering for some culottes even though this seems a bit crazy. I was drawn to the style of this rtw pair and think I could recreate something similar using #mccalls7661, which I already own. 6. I got a free copy of #m7969 last year, and I have some leopard print viscose, and they seem like a good combo. 7. I bought some viscose last year which I knew was destined for a skirt. I have wrap skirt #s9109 in my stash, which I think will be perfect for the fabric. 8. I have some cream needlecord in my stash and have my eyes on the #namedlempi dress for it. 9. I've had some burgundy drill in the stash for ages, which just needs to be trousers. I could default to my faithful #persephonepants or #dawnjeans, but I am also tempted by the #landerpants. Me Made May - day 28 And we're back in a good dress! I said I'd squeeze in at least one or two more Myosotis dresses before the end of the month, and this is probably the best one. Gorgeous @fabricgodmother viscose twill with perfect drape, lovely minimalist print colours, swishy skirt, and subtly dramatic sleeves, which were stolen from the M7969. 😘👌 It's something I like to keep for special but occasionally will crack out for work when I feel like I want to feel a bit fancy, grownup and sophisticated, or just need a bit of a boost. It was originally a below knee length job, but it always felt like it had been cut off in its prime, so when I added that extra length back on, I feel like this dress came home to itself and was reached its full potential. Memade May 22 & this is an #m7969 I made last summer in Indian blockprint cotton. This fabric is perfect for this pattern. I bought my cotton scarf in @lauraashleyuk in 1987. Does that make it vintage? Making videos is not something Mr T & I excel at, as you can see! Memade May 22 was the best. We went up to Dartmoor to visit our dear friend Karen @dartmoorflowershed who has grown us some stunning plants from seed for our new garden, as a housewarming gift. How kind is that? Our new garden is going to look so cheery soon! Karen’s gardening skills are amazing - take a look at her page to see her stunning garden. She sells beautiful cut flowers from her drive in Lydford. It was a beautiful day and so lovely to spend a couple of hours with Karen, who is the most amazing lady and so talented. I’m home marking so prioritising layers and comfort today. It didn’t occur to me to put these two together before but I think it works. The dress is the ever popular @simplicitymccallsuk #m7969. I made it last year from a super cheap Ikea double gauze throw. I tried (and failed) to do an FBA and size down. I think I’ll have to insert a bust dart if I want that to work next time. To compensate for the resulting lack of coverage at the cleavage, I added the fringe from the original throw. I like it, it’s quite quirky but I still need to wear a cami underneath. I made the crochet waterfall cardi thing years ago (what would you call one of these?). Day 31 of Me Made May… and then the radiographer said WHAT SORT OF BRA DO YOU HAVE ON and I said NOT UNDERWIRED and he said IS IT A SPORTS BRA? and I said NO IT’S A BRALETTE (needlessly pulling out a chunk of it to show him) and he said DOES IT HAVE METAL and I said IT’S GOT THESE ADJUSTY THINGS ON THE BACK and he said OKAY TAKE THAT OFF BUT YOU CAN LEAVE YOUR TOP ON and I said BUT IT’S GOT A SAFETY PIN HOLDING IT CLOSED and so he said PUT ON A GOWN AND STOP WASTING PRECIOUS NHS TIME… It is the last day of Me Made May and I’m celebrating with a chest X-ray for a cough already diagnosed as a seasonal allergy due to a hormone change. Did you know perimenopause can suddenly mean you get hayfever? I didn’t. Anyway. I’m wearing an #m7969 top which is slightly too small in the bust and needs a safety pin to keep it closed. I think I can do better, and maybe that’s one of my takeaways from MMM, but right now I’m ignoring my son and he needs to eat a cheese sandwich, so me and my safety pin are off to sort that out. Sewing planning 🙈 I have felt a bit overwhelmed with plans, too many patterns and bundles of fabric sitting about with no plan. I like to plan! So here are my sewing plans/ musings. I know for sure I want to make the @simplicitymccallsuk #m7969 with this lush floral fabric. I am making matching #m6972 shirts for my husband and son from this Avengers cotton fabric. Then I get unsure… have had the amazing cowboy fabric for ages and originally it was going to be a Lyra but that did not go to plan. I love it so much I want something I’ll wear. Obligatory shot of my me-made dresses in a hotel wardrobe. Makes me smile every time. We are in the most striking hotel in Monaco, it’s beautiful. I want to come back, and back……😉 Just one question to hotel room designers. Why oh why are wardrobes regularly too short to hang my dresses? I’m not very tall, and these dresses are not floor length, yet many are too long for the wardrobe. This is something that niggles me, and is far from unusual. I can only conclude that men design hotel wardrobes. 🤔🤭 PS. Can I just add that my greatest source of frustration in hotel rooms is when there’s a mirror 🪞 at one end of the room, and a plug 🔌 at the other, and your hairdryer just won’t reach. So happy to have found a jacket pattern that works well over full sleeves! ♥️♥️♥️ This is #Vogue1891 in a weighty 100% cotton Kaufman Sevenberry (Nara Homespun Geometric Red) fabric. The pattern describes various methods for clean finishing the insides ~ great for beginners. I used a combination of French seams, flat felled seams, and Hong Kong binding. Although I had four yards of fabric, the width was narrow and I didn’t have enough to include the hood. I think that ended up for the best though! 😊 The only other modification I made was to use two buttons and make fabric button loops. Swipe for close-ups 😊 I’m wearing the jacket over my latest #m7969 (last post). The fabrics for both of these makes were purchased especially for these patterns and to coordinate with each other ~ a level of pre-planning that I rarely manage! I’m really happy with both and how well they work together. Made another #M7729 cropped jacket from this very cute denim from @wearethefabricstore. I actually finished this several weeks ago after having cut it out back in October 2021! I had to go back and check my feed for accuracy. Y’know when you cut a pattern and then just lose the vibe for that garment? That happened to me and I’m glad I finally finished it as I plan to wear it with my #M7969 from back in November 2021.

I had a moment of happy pride this morning as I unpacked my me-mades into the wardrobe at our Airbnb. My poor dresses had been squished into my suitcase for three days, so it was good to finally let them breathe. I enjoyed taking a step back and looking at them hanging there. 😃 We’re back in Canada. We were only here last year, and I really hadn’t expected to be back so soon, but plans change. Six of these are made from fabric that I bought here last year, so it’s almost like bringing them back home! I had a longish narrow strip of leftover fabric after making my #m7969 dress, so I decided to make this #v9006 cowl neck top. Other than the middle front panel, which has the neck and back collar attached, view A is made up of narrow pieces so was ideal for the fabric. I pieced the back collar, and french seamed the whole thing, as I had done with the dress. The construction is very clever and reminds me of the stokxhackertop . We are looking after our granddog this weekend while his parents are at a wedding in Helsinki, so took my new top with him and Orla to the "beach" and forest walk beside the Erskine Bridge yesterday afternoon. We saw planes, trains, automobiles and boats as well as lots of birds, but my phone battery ran out so photos were limited! . When I'd finished cutting out the top, I couldn't believe that I'd forgotten about the dress pockets again 🤦‍♀️, so I was very lucky in being able to find three leftovers of leftovers big enough for pocket pieces, and was able to piece the 4th 😅 . There are only tiny scraps left now, maybe enough for a scrunchie! @sagner_by_katrin is the People’s Choice Winner for “Patterns at play” for #sewapril2024 She posted “Here are a couple of my makes where patterns are at play. Some are a little subtle, like stripes and florals at the last slide, while the second dress’ pattern play is very vivid. I actually hand stamped the dots on the lowest border on that dress, feeling that a beige fabric with black dots was absolutely necessary to complete the fabric combinations there. 😂 The first rust dress in my post is probably my favourite though. The rust fabric with black birds was thrifted and I knew it needed some leo print binding to be perfect. I found a turquoise leopard cotton at @skroten_tyg and cut my own bias binding for this dress. Me made May Day 20 deserves a special post. Today we celebrated our 12th wedding anniversary. (It’s on the 23rd but we are both busy then!) A lovely Italian meal, Tuscan wine and a beautiful walk on the beach. Through so many moves, kids, a dog, jobs, this guy is forever my constant. My favourite boho and prairie dress patterns (nightwear-as-daywear trend). I’ve been making long, colourful dresses for myself for a few years now, so I’m thrilled to think that I was ahead of the curve on the whole “nightwear as daywear” pandemic fashion trend. If you’re interested in making a long, flowing, boho or prairie-inspired dress for yourself, these are some of my favourite patterns for sewing maxi boho dresses. If you like the option of off-the-shoulder, elastic necklines, #Butterick6451 #b6451 is my favourite go-to. I’ve made this pattern a few times now (I’ll feature my makes - which I sewed last summer - in the coming days), and it’s a really quick and easy sew. The more tiers you add, of course, the more gathers you need to make, and the more complex the construction gets. A really popular McCall’s pattern for a long, flowy boho look has been #McCalls7969 #m7969. (It’s been so popular, in fact, that you may have trouble finding a paper copy of it in stock anywhere.) I made this dress once, but it’s definitely in my sewing queue to make again. Butterick also has a couple of different nightgown patterns that you could adapt into maxi day dresses: #Butterick6838 #b6838 and #Butterick5792 #b5792. You could also search through the costume patterns of the major pattern companies; McCall’s has a pioneer dress costume #McCalls7220 #m7220, and Butterick has a sexy historical shift (or under-dress) pattern in #Butterick3906 #b3906. I especially like the sleeves on the latter, with their two elastic bands in each sleeve, creating cascading puffs. Finally, if you’d rather thrift or purchase pre-owned patterns instead of buying new, try looking in thrift stores for old nightgown patterns (I’ve often found nightgown patterns in charity shops). One of my favourite discontinued patterns is #McCalls7230 #m7230, which is a pioneer costume that makes a really great historical shift or nightgown. I’ve made it several times, including the beautiful floral dress that I posted yesterday.

Among my sewing goals for 2021 was to hack a pattern, and when I saw how @pippy_eve and @emilynatsai hacked the #m7969 dress into a button up blouse, I wanted to try it. I used this gorgeous fabric dyed by @shabdshabd and followed the directions that @pippy_eve posted in her stories. And it turned out...ok! I’d like to scoop out the neckline a tiny bit more, lowering and rounding it, but I think that’s going to be a task for Future Eleanor to tackle. For now, it's a nice addition on the more femme end of my style spectrum, not one I frequent a lot these days but one I enjoy flirting with when the mood strikes. Plus, I was thrilled to get to use these lovely buttons from @tabithasewer. Other new skills I tried out when making this shirt include: using my machine to sew on buttons, using the rolled hem foot, adding side vents with a French seam, and of course using @sewbakemake’s gathering technique. The pants are the first garment I ever sewed, Vogue #v9181 in a cotton canvas from @moodfabrics. ME MADE MAY Day 30- A busy and buzzy weekend planned. A quick trip to the garden centre to spruce the tiny garden, third pic is me standing front of the rhododendrons. Today is a mash up dress. I tried the #m7969 but I couldn’t get the fit right and it was giving me nightdress vibes. So ot sat crumbled until this week when I took it in hand. I cut the sleeves off, I added side panels to the bodice and I then added the bottom half of the beloved #wildergown by @fridaypatterncompany I had two colorways of the amazing @riflepaperco floral in mint and coral. Finally joining #memademay! 🖤 My love for sewing is reemerging as I am navigating this new mom era - which means it now takes me ages to complete one project. Behold the dress that took months. I needed to expand my wardrobe to be breastfeeding friendly so I went through my stash and decided I needed another #m7969. The loose fit just wasn’t my favorite so I made the bodice a bit smaller and added a side zip. Adding a side zip with inseam pockets took some thinking but I love how clean it looks. so this is my Frankenstein monster of a dress! A mash up between my 3 absolute favourite patterns #m7969, #m8507 by @simplicitymccallsuk @simplicity_creative_group @simplicitymccallsaustralia and #hollandparkdress by @ninaleelondon and I absolutely love it. It is a toile but a totally wearable one. First of all this fabric is super cute from @fabricchicks and I got this midi dress out of 2.5 meters of this cute but very narrow (42”) polycotton. Feels like I proper won fabric tetris there. I would say it qualifies for #2fromstashamonth by @salixsews and @septemberfaden as it is pretty deep stash. Right so the mods: sleeves are THOSE sleeves from m7969 (iykyk) and the bodice is the mash up of m8507 and Holland park dress (sleeved bodice) and I am genuinely so happy with how that all came together. I suspected I could use these sleeves with the bodice of m8507 but now I know it is true. The skirt is what was left of my fabric fashioned into a fairly narrow straight skirt with a ruffle which was also a bit narrow. But I managed to scrape through. So this is the result of two weekends + several additional evenings of sewing. I initially wanted to use this for a #m7969 because the image of these stripes, cut on the bias, for that faux wrap bodice really was making me swoon, but try as I might I cannot get that pattern to fit me right :(. The first attempt was two big. I made adjustments, and then it was way too small! I had to order more fabric to recut the bodice. When it arrived? I recut it and this time it was both too big and too small and I’d tried to turn it into an actual wrap. I adjusted it again and it fit — YAY — but then when adding a button hole on the side, to thread the tie through, I completely mangled the fabric. There was no saving it. I actually had to cut the dress out of the machine. I may have cried. I wadded the whole thing up and tossed it in a corner. But I couldn’t stop thinking of these cheerful colors and decided to salvage the fabric and make a simple, no frills shift with grown on sleeves. To get pieces big enough to cut out my pattern I had to piece scraps together. I like the contrast of the vertical and horizontal stripes, though, so I’m ok with that. More often than not I make something and think it’s just ok, however every so often I make something that I absolutely love and this is definitely one of those times!!! This is the #marchtop from @helens__closet which I spent yesterday sewing together. I’m totally loving the boho vibes! This patten reminds me of a mash up between my two favourite patterns - #m7969 and #roscoeblouse - but with a little extra something special. @helens__closet makes understanding a pattern so easy with such simple to understand instructions and little tips along the way. Made a size 8, however did take the sides in slightly so it wasn’t quite as roomy. I also shorted the bodice by a few cms and lengthened the gathered tier at the bottom by about 4 cm. Fabric was from my stash, purchased some time ago from @spotlightstores - I think it is a linen blend but not 100% sure on that one! It’s a beautiful print all the same and kind of wishing I had of had enough to make the dress version instead. Now the dilemma - what to make next!!
