I’m back. I needed a moment & posting photos of my finished projects didn’t feel a top priority in my heart. I grew up in a time when you had to wait for Halloween to buy striped tights, or even fishnets unless you had a sexy lady store in your town (RIP Lady Godiva & NYNY). Wet n Wild was the only brand that had black, blue & purple nail polish readily available. If you wanted Vans, you had to order them from the back of Thrasher Magazine. As in mail a check & wait six weeks. The only way I found maryjanes in my adult size was because my mom had randomly received this kids catalog after my younger brother was born & for some reason they carried a few different styles of them. I honestly contemplated cobbling at one point in my life. Shopping for clothes was somewhat of a treasure hunt. There would be a bunch of regular people clothes, but then for some reason there would be a random black & red striped shirt at the Gap (they definitely weren’t selling Misfits shirts back then), or a punk rock plaid dress at Kaufmanns. It was piecing together of all these random things we would find to make our own expression with fashion. It’s also why thrift shopping was so appealing to me. A literal treasure hunt. And why when I figured out I could just make whatever treasure I wanted it completely blew my mind. So when I’m sewing patterns that I don’t alter much, I like to bring that mentality into it. I need this boring necessity of a jacket, what would I be excited about finding in a store a million years ago? And it really all comes down to color story. The pattern I used is #mccallspatterns #m8019 View A (but I added a hood & side seam pockets, because a jacket is useless to me without both of those things). It’s made from fleece from #blackbirdfabrics It was super annoying to sew, but that was mostly because of my mind set. Sewing more basic necessities isn’t really my thing. I’m still not much in the mood for talking about the actual act of sewing part of things. I’m in a very heightened contemplative & creative state of mind and want to keep posting in case any artsy little sensitive souls out there are feeling alone in the world. You are not.

Today I'm sharing another @sewnmagazine feature. This one was released in the December 2020 edition. First of all, you know I was dying while taking these photo's, right? These were taken in February and it was probably 80 degrees and sunny out. I was sweating bullets! I even have a photo where I'm trying to get into the fall/winter spirit and playing in dead leaves. lol Second BTS about these photos is that I was having problems sewing the bottom of the jacket. I COULD NOT figure out how to attached the rib knit to the hem. It was driving me crazy! This was also my very first time sewing with fur, so that was fun times and an entirely different story. All I'm going to say is you should probably wear protective eye wear when cutting fur. I ended up wearing some shades because the fur was getting in my eyes. Anyway, back to the rib knit. So, I ended up reaching out to @brittanyjjones because she did a sew along for it. We started out in the DMs and ended up on a video call for 45 mins. Brittany was so sweet to stay in the phone with me until I got it right. Thank you for saving the day Brittany! I love the way these photos came out. MCCALLS 8019 This jacket has been in my WIPs pile for a while and only just finished it (also needed a bit of help from Mumma with the lining) This jacket is the #m8019 bomber jacket with MANY changes. I decided not to: - make it a bomber jacket - add a zip - have elasticated cuffs I probably could have used a different pattern base for this jacket but I liked this look of this pattern. Instructions were easy to follow and change along the way. Nouveau manteau le Mc Call's 8019 (#m8019) Je voulais un manteau bien chaud, pas trop court, large et enveloppant pour pour mettre des épaisseurs, des gros pulls en dessous 🥶 J'avais des manteaux bien chaud mais plutôt courts et cintrés donc ça n'allais pas quand il faisait vraiment vraiment froid 🥶🥶🌨️❄️🧊 Ce manteau rempli parfaitement le cahier des charges mais il me sera plus utile l'année prochaine 😅. Niveau modifs j'ai fait des poches passepoilées parce que je trouve ça plus joli ☺️, j'ai cousu une petite poche intérieure pour y mettre les clés, j'ai rajouté un cordon pour resserrer la capuche si besoin et enfin j'ai rajouté des poignées de manches car je les trouvais trop courtes...bref c'est du détail mais j'y tenais à ces" détails" 😅. Le tissu extérieur est une gabardine grise qui vient de "jenesaisplusou" 😅, lainage aztèque de #mondialtissus et sherpa de #tissushemmers Je vous mets en photo 6 l'inspiration de ce manteau. . There’s a coat pattern I attempted to make earlier in the year that simply became a furry green nightmare, and it received a first class flight to the trash can. Well, I tried again after coming across a clearance Sherpa for $4/yd at Hobby Lobby. This time around, I was MUCH MORE SUCCESSFUL 🙌🏾 She isn’t perfect, but I’ve been wearing her all around town. She’s quickly becoming my go-to coat nowadays. My latest project, wind proof zip-up hoodie jacket made from this gorgeous mushroom 🍄 soft shell fleece fabric 😍. My top 9 makes of 2020! Looking back at what I've done is pretty neat Being creative this year was perhaps the only thing that kept me sane! I definitely took a dramatic turn into crochet resulting from huge sewing burnout out after making hundreds (and hundreds) of masks. 1. #wikstenhaori coat. Love this jacket, I wear it all the time, I actually made about 4 of these in different colors 😆 this one is in indigo linen and @merchantandmills Indian cotton as the liner. 2. My reusable shopping bags! My etsy shop, LovebyMissy saw a good bit of action with these guys.. maybe a relaunch? We will see what 2021 has up my sleeve 😉 3. Sewing with my daughter is always fun, she was obsessed with these teddy jackets so we made our own! This was my @mccallspatterncompany #m8019 jackets, also wear them all the time! 4. My #grannystripepillow i LOVE this one! Not only did my free pattern really take off for this its one of my favorite pieces in my living room, this one lives on my couch and I love it. (free pattern. 🧵 Mc Call's 8019🧵 . . Mon mari m'a demandé une nouvelle version de la MC Calls 8019 doublée en polaire. Il l'aime pour ses manches courtes qui permettent de bricoler à l'aise, ses poches pour y glisser les mains et sa chaleur pour affronter l'hiver périgourdin. J'ai retiré les élastiques de manches et de taille. Il avait une idée bien spécifique du tissu : des carreaux verts et noirs dans un tissu sherpa. Après avoir vainement écumé mes adresses habituelles, j'ai trouvé son bonheur sur le site anglais MINERVA. J'ai donc acheté le sherpa et la polaire pour la doublure sur ce site. Ils sont de bonne qualité à priori mais j'ai dû payer des frais de douanes élevés en plus de la commande... Late night’s quilted coat glamour shots of one of the 2 coats I made for Christmas. Ava loves Garfield so I was thrilled to find a sheet at the thrift shop. I used McCall’s 8019 and I am in love with this pattern. I have requests to make 2 more. It is such a good fit. Mia’s sleeves are a little short so her next one I will make sure to add a few inches to the end of the sleeves. I quilted each pattern piece like I would a quilt (504 spray baste and safety pins), didn’t use a lining (as it already has plenty of fabric), and covered the trimmed down inside seams with thrifted packages of bias binding. I wasn’t going to let winter pass me by without a sherpa garment being made 😁 I had never worked with sherpa before so I was a bit nervous about the thickness and mess I heard it would make. To my surprise, there was no mess! I found this raw sherpa. It is said to be raw because it has a bit of plant material still within the fibre which I kind of like because it gives it a “peppered” look. I washed and dried it normally and it came out great. The inside did pill but I wasn’t worried as this jacket is lined. It is VERY warm, I was sweating taking these photos. I was very excited to use my own fabric from my Colorido collection for the lining, it’s the perfect match! It’s a little hard to photograph since it has very little contrast but the print matches the ivory of the sherpa perfectly. I got lost somewhere during the lining instructions but I improvised and finished it my way. It still looks like it’s supposed 🙂 I omitted the pockets once I saw how large it was turning out and I’m glad I did, it would’ve been too bulky. If you saw my stories I was trying to add some contrast stripes (the pattern has an option for it) but I didn’t have the right colours. It ended up looking a bit like a pimp jacket and I hated it so I made it all white. To be honest, I’m not 100% how I feel about this jacket. It turned out super large even tho I made the smallest size. I don’t think it looks this big on the model. There’s something I like about it (it’s super cozy and feels like a big hug) but there’s also something I dislike about it. Maybe I just need to wear it for a bit to get used to it. I like it more than I dislike it but you know that feeling when you have a vision and it just falls short?
