The fabric was from three @aceandjig Cardinal pieces that I deconstructed and repurposed. * First top is vintage Simplicity 8305, size 10, in organic linen from @athriftynotion at least five years ago. * next are two wrap sweaters from recycled cashmere, forever grateful that @kyliewutke encouraged me to try Simplicity #S8424 * The black top is a linen version of New Look #N6722, I believe I made size 10 * the boiled wool vest was mostly self-drafted and made up as I went along. *The white top is repurposed vintage tablecloths using Vintage McCalls 7408, made int a blouse instead of a dress. * The lavender linen top is McCalls #M7166 I’m looking forward to revisiting both sleeveless top patterns this summer and I plan to make a matching Cardinal top to go with the pants . Making these pants gas switched my brain over to summer sewing—which is my favorite type of sewing.

I’m back from vacation and back in the sewing of things. And I could NOT be more delighted with my newest make! It kind of looks like a dress, but it’s a matching top and skirt. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ - The wrap skirt is New Look 6722 - Size 12, no changes. It was a little more work than I had anticipated - there were big pieces of fabric to cut, long edges to hem, fabric to gather, elastic to insert, tie straps to make, buttonholes to make and buttons to sew on, and asymmetrical waistband and tie pieces to manage and cobble together in puzzle-like fashion. But I love how it turned out and it was worth every bit of effort in the end. - The matching top is the #RitaBlouse by @gertie18 / Charm Patterns (Size 6 / D/DD bodice). I now own two of these tops and I have a feeling it won’t be my last. 🙈 I originally planned to make the crop top included with the New Look skirt pattern instead. I made a muslin and made adjustments for fit, and even though I got it to fit me pretty well, in the end I just felt a little overexposed in it. I’m pretty youthful for my age, but I do have my limits. So back I went to my new friend Rita. I needed something fitted around the torso that would tuck nicely into the skirt, and the Rita blouse did the trick. This time I went ahead and elasticized the sleeves along the hems. I also lengthened the sleeves by 1/4” - I’m not sure if I needed the extra length, but I’m leaning towards “no”. Next time I might just trust the pattern and make the sleeves as designed. The fabric is a beautiful, BEAUTIFUL poplin from @fabricdotcom. I mean, just look at this stuff!!! 🥹 I have a little left over and I hope it’s enough to make the Loretta Shorts by Charm Patterns. I saw this bolt of checker print linen/rayon fabric and knew I wanted to make a matching set. The pants are from the #SaguaroSet but I wanted a smaller top, so I used New Look #N6722 and it’s exactly what I imagined. 🏁. • Since everything I own is in a tightly packed storage unit and most of it is inaccessible, please imagine the perfect summer accessories: a stack of my handmade neon resin bangles, big rings, a flat brimmed hat (maybe a different one), either an over sized or teeny tiny handbag, FRESH FRECKLES & A TAN, and I’m thinking some platforms in a punchy color? Right? 🎈. • My mods here were minimal as I considered these test garments for both patterns. Pants: the horizontal balance was off so I lowered center front 1”, I reduced the waistband height to 1.5” and increased all seam allowances so I could make them French or flat felled. For the top I’ll do a blog post on my small tweaks but I liked the drafting! Slowly making progress and trying to stay patient through the process. Crop tops are usually not a type of clothing I reach out for but I saw a friend wearing it and it looked cute. Then I saw a pattern for it and it felt like a sign from the sewing gods. I always intended this to be a test make but I also wanted to follow all the instructions including interfacing (first time), full lining (first time) and zipper (first time 😵‍💫). Overall it came out better than I expected. There are a few adjustments I need to make for this pattern. I also need to figure out the general adjustments for my body for most patterns. The zipper is sticking out because I didn't want to cut it for this project which was never meant to be wearable. One thing I have learned is that if I go by the size recommended on the package it always ends up being way too big. Now I go by the finished garment measurements and it seems like that's a safer route. Anyway, onwards and upwards.
