Did everyone get through the full moon okay? I felt like I was vibrating nervous energy all day. Still trying to keep calm and not feel overwhelmed. One of the things that helps me feel calm is looking up to the sky. It’s part of the reason I started this project of documenting the sky daily. So many beautiful things happen up there and if you find yourself looking up you know you’re taking time for yourself. Even if it’s just a minute. So glad I finished this dress for all the parties I DON’T have on 😆. In saying that, I’m a big fan of getting dressed up to feel good 💁🏻‍♀️. For work, for home, for nobody. Put your best clothes on! I got this STUNNING check silk organza that has this very beautiful and subtle metallic sheen from @theremnantwarehouse I had been eyeing it off for a while and decided to go for it. I had never given any thought to the difficulty of sewing with silk before - (oh the bliss of ignorance) until I saw @burieddiamond posts about prepping and sewing with silk and I was like ohhhhhh ok. So I got the special needles. Learned the ways of French seams and took it slowly slow. Hi people! I’ve sewn a simple hot weather dress from a pattern that’s pretty much gone unnoticed. It’s a no zip pull on a-line squeezed out of stash linen blend. I’d been using the sleeveless version for knit maxi length loungewear. I initially had the ‘Eva’ in mind for this fabric but no way did I have enough of it so 💡 out came #mccalls8053 #m8053 cut out with an added CB seam and the proteas on the back going the wrong way! It’s a busy fabric, so it’s not really noticeable. But speaking of the print, I had a big yellow flower smack bang on my right bosom and had to make a patch pocket to hide It! 😁 My Changes to the pattern were sway back and back neck adjustments, in seam pockets and a slightly lowered and bound neckline instead of facings. #annemccalls #shiftdress #isewmyownclothes #sewover60 I hope you all have a joyful Christmas and a good New Year. xx Val

The dress is m8053 and the jacket is b5213. It is perfect for hot summer days. The fabric is seersucker which was purchased at a thrift store. I made the no dart version because I didn't want anything disturbing the butterfly print. I added a lining because I could see through the fabric very well. I added bias binding for the neck and armholes instead of facings because that is how I attached the lining. I wanted to sew an older pattern I had McCall's 8108 from 1996. It was size 12, 14. 16. I need size 8,10,12. I will grade down the pattern put I didn't feel like doing that today. It would take to long. I thought that I would buy a smaller size because of the sale at hobby lobby. I knew the number changed to m6102. I was disappointed because it didn't show up on the site. Thank you to pattern review who said that the number was changed to 8053. I can't believe that pattern is still around after 25 years!
