It’s very cold out, and I’m still getting the hang of my tripod—but here are some shots of my wearable toile for the @simplicity_creative_group #s8841 wide-leg pants! I’m officially in my pants-making era, and it’s such a fun journey. Finding pants that fit my height has always been a struggle, so getting to craft my own with intention and care is a real joy. For this pair, I made a slight full-stomach adjustment and a knock-knee adjustment, and they’re just about perfect. My students told me my outfit was “cooking” today, so…I’ll take that as a win? So for the 4th of July, I made everyone's shirts in my family. . But I liked mine so much I made 2 more. This gray number is one of them. It went so perfectly with my Simplicity #s8841 in this smooth crepe fabric from @minervadotcom . To make this gray shirt I simply combined a plain knit t-shirt pattern with a woven flutter/puff sleeve pattern. . The patterns I used were of course by @lovenotions . I used the Classic tee pattern and the new Tempo sleeve add on. But I'm pretty sure the Rhapsody flutter sleeve would work too. I'll have to experiment a little more. . I have really wanted to try this oversized top for a while now. I used Layer Dress & Top, a pattern by Sew Different, and I used the straight leg version of Simplicity 8841. This is sort of a wintery outfit for this 80-degree weather we are having today, so I would say I am a little tardy with my warm style sewing project. I used thrifted fabric from my stash. I made a faux jumpsuit in my continuing efforts to use up all the fabric before moving to the next project. This #topdeclic turned out much better than the previous iteration. I sewed down the pleats vertically on the wrong side and finished the armholes with self bias tape. I brought the upper sides in nearly 1cm. I had previously raised the neckline to ensure appropriate for work. This R Kaufman linen cotton needs a few washes to soften up but it is getting there. It was a great find while on holiday in San Diego at @material_happiness I had enough left over to make a pair of Friday sport shorts but haven’t worn them yet. Now I need a brown-red blazer to wear over this and go full middle-age professional who also sews. Not sure when that fabric will enter my life. #s8841 again, this time in the tapered leg view The final version is in a loose weave cotton linen with excellent drape from @material_happiness in San Diego. The toile is in a slightly stiff poly-cotton from @themakersplacehunterregion - had to piece the belt and waistband to make it work. I made a size 12 graded to 14 at the hip with a 2cm full seat and 1cm front crotch curve adjustment, plus 1.5 to 2cm added to the rise. This allows the pants to sit at the natural waist. I drafted the inseam pocket because it was missing from the pattern, making it big and attached to the waistband. I interfaced the side seam allowance at the pocket to help it sit flat and this worked well. This pattern yields a versatile, easy to sew, and pleasant-to-wear trouser. I might have to make one more pair of the wide-leg version before I pack it away. #memadeeveryday #australiasews #newcastlehuntersews

Not only are these pants sort of funny at the outstart, but I made them completely wrong side out, which further cracks me up. I did do an amazing job on matching the plaid, but for some unknown reason, this has always come naturally to me. I think I usually don't care if it matches or not, and that must help a lot! I found this fabric at a thrift store. It seems like a lightweight poly blend. #s8841 View A has made it to work twice now and feels great to wear This is a slightly slubby and open weave woven from an op shop in Dubbo. It yielded this and a matching camp shirt I haven’t yet photographed. It has a soft drape and produces cocktails by the sea vibes. I made a size 12 graded to 14 at the hip. Pattern alterations include +2cm full seat, +1cm to front crotch curve, +2cm to rise graded to 1.5cm in front middle, longer pockets, and added a drawstring. I also widened the waist casing to allow for 35mm elastic. An easy sew with a lovely result. This pattern is still on the workbench. Just stopping to take a breath after the first full week to post my celebration of what will most likely be my last first day of school and my last first day me-make! I love my job, but it may be time for something new. Who knows, maybe I’ll change my mind? I plan to enjoy every moment regardlessly. I absolutely love this make. I used fabric purchased nine or ten years ago @habermanfabrics and #simplicity8841. They have to be the most comfortable pants I’ve ever worn. I think the fabric is a poly-rayon blend with a beautiful drape. The pockets make me happy and I love the v shaped belt loops.The only alteration was that I used a wider elastic and secured it with two rows of stitching which created a beautiful wavy effect. I’ll be making a black pair to add to my weekly staples out of a thicker fabric with a similar drape. The top is an old rtw one that has been sitting in my closet until now. I made both of these pieces for my winter wardrobe last year and never got around to photos. I’m wearing them both today, so here they are. The top is a boat neck gathered center sleeve made in a hand dyed rayon twill. With a wide leg trouser in dark wash denim with a bit of stretch. Made with With a few mods. Extra long belt with curved end shape to make a bow, extra wide elastic band to hold up that heavy weight denim and mock fly front. I used a lightweight dark wash denim for the elastic waistband casing to eliminate bulk and classic jeans style belt carriers. Fancy pants Sunday! Pattern: Simplicity Patterns #s8841 Fabric: cotton, blue paisley Sweater: Ana, by Manos del Uruguay Shoes: Dansko’s

Pulling out two pieces I made maybe 2 summers ago and have never/rarely worn because I could never work out how to style them. Turns out, they work great together! On top is the @paulinealice_patterns #verashirt which I love on everyone else but in the past have not liked on me. Was thinking of dyeing it but today I like it as is. Amazing what a bit of time away from our makes can do for a garment. On the bottom are the @simplicity_creative_group #s8841 pants that I made from a pale green linen tablecloth, dyed navy. They tie-dyed themselves, but it was evenly done and I quite like the result. There was something not quite right about the pants that for the longest time I couldn’t quite identify. However, I realised recently that it was the length…they were neither long or cropped. So, I deepened the hems and now they are cropped and fab! Happy Sunday friends. I have been sewing up some spring and summer outfits but it did not feel warm enough to take photos today! I am wanted to show the pants with t-shirt and tank however it’s way too cold and will have to wait for warmer days. The dress is simplicity #s8546 and pants simplicity #s8841 . I made pants! Not the most exciting make but hopefully very useful for the spring (it's coming, right?) and summer. They're elasticated (anyone remembers non-elasticated pants...?) with room to grow. I used some lovely cotton/linen/elastane fabric from @the_rag_shop and the #s8841 pattern. I guess I could've sized down, but then maybe I shouldn't... The pants are supposed to sit on your lower hip but I didn't do any adjustments and they're sitting comfortably on my natural waist instead 😅 The tshirts are #nl6217 and #mncara and I made them a while ago.
