A few notes on this pattern: I trimmed the width of the front pocket to make the most of my fabric, which meant I had to just make sure the flap was centered. Changes I would make for the next time: make the casing for 3/4in elastic 1in instead of 7/8in. Also I would lower the waistband buttonholes about 1/4in or 1/2in. For the pockets, I used dark green cotton remnants, the pockets were pretty long so I used about 1/2 yard. How do you feel about sewing requests from loved ones? My partner wanted a fun, baggy pair of board shorts, and I enjoyed working with him to try to bring his vision to life. I started with #s9795 view B, added 3” length, changed the back patch pocket to a welt pocket (my first one, be kind!), increased the size of the inseam pockets, and made a 1/2” drawstring instead of storebought. Fabric is Malibu Palm Tree board short fabric from @knitfabricdotcom . The last pic is just because I’m proud of my seam matching! Yesterday I finished the Simplicity #S9795 shorts (version C) for DH to replace his Nike running shorts from 1993. The main fabric is a polyester “solar foil knit” from JoAnn and the lining is a jersey knit from deep in my stash. These turned out super cute. These men’s shorts are made of… a doona cover from the Salvos! @salvosstores . Even the drawstring came out of the doona’s edge piping. I made these for my husband Paddy from a @simplicitymccallsaustralia pattern. The pattern is pretty straightforward and a good way of learning how to do the waistband casing. Paddy was out yesterday when I finished the shorts so I’ll make a few alterations now he’s tried them on, such as taking up the legs and closing the pockets slightly so his phone and keys don’t fall out. Overall, I think these are a fun summer piece!
