Yeeeeeehaaaaaaw 🤠 Sooo happy with my latest make, we went to a J themed fancy dress party and I decided to go as Jessie from Toy Story. Full disclaimer I was still finishing it yesterday at 5pm and cut the chaps out at 4pm (nothing like a challenege aye!🤣) The most complicated part of the this make was definitely the shirt, and to make it slightly trickier for myself I made it in my cabin on board Britannia last week and had no iron! I used a McCalls pattern #m7980 and made version D. I used bright yellow cotton for the yoke and cuffs and added red Ric Rac and fringe to get the right look. I also used grey snaps instead of buttons partly because I didn’t have any grey buttons and also because it was a LOT quicker and I was running out of time. This week I was preparing for a professional bull riding event so I wanted to go with a vintage western look. I spent about two weeks looking for the pattern I wanted with no luck vintage western patterns are pretty scarce and expensive. When hobby lobby had their sale I picked up two modern yoke shirts patterns. One for me, one for my Husband! The shirt as it is, was a pretty average sew, but seeing as it’s a men’s pattern it was not a good fit for me I was faced with buying an expensive reproduction or at least “trying” to make this one work, with no prior knowledge of grading or altering a men’s pattern for a woman. The most I’ve ever done was an SBA, and grading down a size or two. So while there was no real technique involved and it isn’t perfect I made it work. ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ I was inspired by vintage McCalls 1297 List of alterations/changes: added a yoke to the back added Darts to the front moved the back darts took in the sides and waist Took in the sleeves Alter the cuff to fit the new sleeves. 🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠🤠 Then I made 4 appliqués using a vintage simplicity pattern 6693 from the 70’s (I plan to make more for the Back now that I don’t have an event) just need more floss 🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎🐎 It took me two Muslins for the shirt, 3-4 sleeve Muslins and 3 cuff Muslins. I made minors adjustments to the pattern tissue Then altered the rest on the muslin.
