My latest make. Pattern New Look N6644 made in a stretch fabric from Abakhan with a cacti print. I made it longer than the pattern so the hem didn't sit in the middle of my tummy. Made an error cutting out the back piece and cut a big hole! #sewingforspring with these simple v necks in a couple of light weight loose weave knits. This is New look 6644. A great little pattern where the v neck neckband goes in a treat. A tip on loose weave knits like this is to include a little iron on stay tape under the stay stitching you do at the bottom of the ‘v’ which will keep it going astray when you clip in before adding the neckband. It was so fun deciding on the materials for the details of these pants. The pocket trim, roll up tabs and waist tie are all cotton twill tape of various widths (one of my all time favorite trims ever), and the waist band facing and pockets I cut out in a coordinating metallic quilting cotton rose print from my scrap bin. … surprisingly this same print has been the inner waist band and pockets for a couple of my me made pants at this point, guess it just works with everything 🤷🏻‍♀️. Oh also, did you notice this quilted fabric has little gold dots all over it?? 🤩 . . . I decided to map out my sewing plans for building up my more casual wardrobe over the next few months using stash fabrics. Made last year on my search for a long sleeve pattern. This is the New Look #N6644. I love this pattern. It's a great v-neck with a well fittef shoulder for me. I did lengthen this as the original is a cropped shirt (see pattern last pic). I have made this again and lenthened it even more. This fabric was a challenge, and v-necks are scary! I totally screwed up the first attempt, but manage to salvage some of it for this shirt. This is better, but not great. The waistband needed to have been much smaller as this fabric doesn't stretch much. But I still found myself grabbing this shirt a lot all winter as a cozy wear. #newlook6644 #n6644 #sewing #vneck

I think this might be the first time ever in my clothing sewing history of...(many years anyways) that I made both patterns out of a multi garment envelope at the same time. This is #N6644 in cotton spandex tiger leopard print jersey from #loiseaufabrics and the pants are made out of what I originally thought was was the remainder of this poorly dyed black linen I got for $1/meter from a designer but as I was working with it I realized the black was too even (aka not streaked and faded) so I think this is actually hemp linen or hemp/cotton I bought from #simplififabric a few years ago, so I’m glad they turned out. I did an FBA on the top but other than that made no changes to the top or pants. The pants fit perfectly but are a bit high waisted for me given the elastic waist, and I need to do a slight swayback adjustment. I also plan to lower the neckline of the top a bit and I think I’ll also take the legs of the pants in a little bit. I love the back pockets and kind of wish I had done a better job paying attaention to varying seam allowances and doing the curved edges of the flaps. I’ve made several #gilberttop by @helens_closet for my French trip. This one is in @libertyfabrics #tanalawn. The shorts are @newlook #N6644 cargo pants without the flap side pockets.

You know how I roll, one last photo dump for the books! I particularly love the little tabs at the hems of these pants, which connect to two little snaps on the legs. I made them still turnover the hem when the pants are folded down which I think looks 👌. Also it’s kind of nice to add a little design detail to some functionality. You can see I like them folded up with my tall boots but all the way down with my shorties. . . . My second pair of #FreeRangeSlacks are already getting lots of wear, and I will definitely be making more from this great pattern! I made this #N6644 last winter. It's ine of my favorite makes so far, noth because the fabric is just a really nice feel and the fit is the best long sleeve I've made. The fabric is a french terry from Hobby Lobby. I made quite a few edits to this pattern. The hardest part for me to fit in standard patterns is the shoulders. I did a size 16 in just the top of the back piece and armscye, and graded back to a 14 for the rest of the shirt. This resolved my issue of where the seam sits at the top of my shoulder. I also included an additional 1/2 inch to the shoulder width on each side, and where this fell on my arm is perfect. I added 4in to the length of the bodice as this pattern is intended for the band to sit at the waist, and I wanted it to just be a standard shirt length. I added the inches and then used a french curve to redraw the waist. The vneck is still a work in progress. There is a definite pucker at the point because I orginally had a tiny hole there and had to reserge the area. I left it as is as opposed to potentially making it even worse. The sleeve hem is also lacking. I haven't found a method that I like for top stitching on knits. This was using a double needle, and after testing for what I believe wS almost an hr, I decided that maybe it would smooth out as time went on? One year, and many washes laster. Nope. I didn't make this while I was pregnant, and I am 32 weeks in this pic. But I never got pics when I wasnt pregnant, so this is as good as it gets!
