Freezing weather is a good time to finish up sewing projects! I got TWO BOLTS of this fabric from an estate sale, it says Made in Japan, YumaLiveLife on it and it’s 100% cotton. I used #m8312 for the pattern, and it’s definitely got a 70s Mrs. Roper vibe. Pockets, flowy, cotton, fits like a nightgown, I shall wear it. (My husband finds the giant sleeves distasteful. Oh well).

WELL nothing to announce today after all… 🙃 but I love how this #m8312 turned out, made from another very soft thrifted bedsheet. My hack was to raise the neckline and split it down the middle to make it breastfeeding-friendly, along with lining the bodice. I’m loving the tie-top trend right now, and this dress is so comfy I could live in it—so I will definitely be making another in the near future. I made this dress during the @thefoldline Sewing Weekender back at the very beginning of June, and it's taken me 4 whole weeks to get a photo of it - this month has been BUSY! 🙃 It's the @simplicitymccallsuk #M8312, view C, size S, and I love it! First up in the vintage projects is a dress I finished about two weeks ago. This is McCall’s 8312 and a free download from Minerva that I got last year, I believe. It’s a rereleased pattern from the 1970s. I’m not too into the vintage 20th century look, so I made this one extra short to break away from a true 1970s look. It’s sewn up in a forest green viscose polyester from Les Coupons de St Pierre. The color is incredible ! And the fabric has a lovely brushed cotton feel that adds a level of warmth. This was incredibly easy to sew, and probably took only 3 hours of machine time. Honestly, I’m terrible at sewing challenges. The deadlines, the pressure. I love them for others but not for me. 😭 But Kris with @unsewcial asked me to join her Secret Santa challenge and I loved the idea so much, I said “put me in, Coach!” 18 creators in the sewing community got paired with each other - and created mood boards based on that person’s style. The catch…no one knew who made each other’s boards. The other day Kris did a huge reveal and I found out that Michael of @daddydressedmebymg created my board! Meet Dolly the electric bakfiets- the latest addition to our family. She is the pink and green bike of my dreams. My lovely husband surprised me with her today and I was genuinely shocked - I had no idea, even when we walked into pick it up I still had no clue. Atticus has already spilt a kinder coffee and ice cream on her so this may be the last time she looks sparkly but I look forward to all the adventures we are going to have together. I quickly made this dress before leaving for Australia. I’d been saving this fabric in my stash because I had too many ideas of what I wanted to make with it. Am I alone in doing this when you love a fabric so much?! Once you commit then you no longer have all those possibilities - but you do have a dress to wear!! And I was so glad I did. I chose #Mccalls8312 because I knew it would come together quickly and there would be no fitting issues. The fabric is a viscose so I omitted the pockets as from previous experience the pockets pulled the dress down and I had to use a belt to counteract it. Sewing stats for #scandicandichristmas23 Anna's dress was a quick make using @mccallpatterncompany #m8312. The two folksy cotton floral prints (her bodice and cuffs feature a similar but contrasting print) for her dress were picked out of the $3 clearance bin at Hobby Lobby. Martha's dress is the @vintagelittleladysewingpattern Juliet. The fabric was purchased on sale for $4/yd from JoAnn Fabrics. The bodice is trimmed in new teal ric- rac and layered with some pieces of embroidered ribbon from my mom's stash. It had been picked off some old garment by my great grandma. Swipe to see the open back of #vlljuliet and up close details of the trim detail. Gideon's Colorblocked cardi is sewn from a #kwiksew men's pattern from the late 80s/early 90s. The pieces of sweatshirt fleece and ribbing all came from either my stash or my mom's. The pants and tee that he wears with it were already pieces in his wardrobe - so his entire look was cost free . My #adelaidefrocktails dress in all her glory. The McCalls M8312 made in a cotton linen blend from @spotlightstores that I found on the clearance tables. Connecting the arms to the skirt and the bodice was a headache and the inside looks like shit but it’s finished and I definitely imagine I’ll be wearing it through summer.

Obligatory shot of my me-made dresses in a hotel wardrobe. Makes me smile every time. We are in the most striking hotel in Monaco, it’s beautiful. I want to come back, and back……😉 Just one question to hotel room designers. Why oh why are wardrobes regularly too short to hang my dresses? I’m not very tall, and these dresses are not floor length, yet many are too long for the wardrobe. This is something that niggles me, and is far from unusual. I can only conclude that men design hotel wardrobes. 🤔🤭 PS. Can I just add that my greatest source of frustration in hotel rooms is when there’s a mirror 🪞 at one end of the room, and a plug 🔌 at the other, and your hairdryer just won’t reach. I had a moment of happy pride this morning as I unpacked my me-mades into the wardrobe at our Airbnb. My poor dresses had been squished into my suitcase for three days, so it was good to finally let them breathe. I enjoyed taking a step back and looking at them hanging there. 😃 We’re back in Canada. We were only here last year, and I really hadn’t expected to be back so soon, but plans change. This is my entry for #magamjealousjuly - I have been pining over this red linen dress for months, but could not justify the €700 price tag!! Come on, girl, you can make that. Though mine is not exactly the same, it is in a lovely friendly red, long and with billowing sleeves in a kaftan style. I like it. I used #m8312 view D (which has a frumpy cover shot) as the line drawing fit the bill. Length is great and I can wear my white linen underskirt with it. Bought 3.5m 160gsm linen in candy apple from @thefineclothcompany. Yea, I could weave my own fabric but that’s never going to happen in the short run. I did tablet weave trim for the cuffs using my inkle loom and cards. So thank you MAGAM for this month’s prompt. Forced me to finally make my linen dress - I do plan on weaving a linen shawl to wear with it 🤞🥳

🧡 Pattern: #m8312 size s, view d Fabric: Indian block print cotton, from Etsy Modifications: raised the neckline and added a tie fastening. Removed the pockets, added slits to the bottom of the skirt and added elastic where the skirt connects to the underarms, all to prevent it from forming a tulip shape (which helped only a teeny tiny wee bit). Lengthened the sleeves by 4inches and will eventually add elastic. #MMM day 20 and it’s a WFH day but the weather is being dull and boring. only one thing to do is wear something bright and cheerful and this dress delivers. It’s @simplicitymccallsuk #m8312 and it’s my second. I really want to make more of these but somehow never get round to it. The key thing to note is I used the remnant of my self drafted dress to incorporate here. The contrasting yoke is a must with this dress for me. I detailed all the changes I made to the pattern and I a really love it. the fabric is from @olive_and_daphens_haberdashery (the yellow one) and it’s the swishiest viscose ever. Can’t remember where the green flower viscose came from sorry.
