Me Made May Day 11 finds me wearing a maxi skirt made about 18 months ago from simplicity #s8885 . It’s a pattern I’ve reached for about a dozen times. This one is made from a nice ponte knit, and is really comfortable, and maybe an inch too big in the waist. One thing I always do with this pattern is to put the zipper in the back, and I use a 12” zipper, which I install after the waistband, so I can run it all the way up. Yeah, I should have ironed it before I put it on, but I was lazy... The top is my TNT McCalls pattern purchased in the early 1990s, made from a @fabricmart sweater knit, made in February of 2020, which I remember because I went to Joanns for the floral lace trim and a couple of weeks later the pandemic was getting real. The wind was blowing in my face, so I turned my head into it so it wouldn’t mess up my hair (and I enjoy even cool breezes in my face), and I just liked this picture. Which leads to another thought: why do people think of maxis as summer wear, when they’re so perfect for whatever weather spring and fall throw at us? Happy Tuesday, all. Sometimes I am just blown away by what my lovely customers do with their purchases! Early in the Spring @making.diary stopped in, searching for the perfect fabrics with which to create the vision she held for her mother of the groom ensemble. After putting together many combinations she chose a cotton/TENCEL/spandex jersey for the #nikkotop @truebias & a drapey Lyocell for the wide leg pants, #s8885. Channeling @alabamachanin she used their Magdalena stencil to airbrush the motif on her jersey, then did hand embroidery and reverse appliqué to complete the surface design. Working throughout the summer, “it was a labor of deep love for my son and new daughter’s wedding.” So fitting. Today’s #memademay2021 are some very swishy wide legged trousers made a couple of years ago in a linen/rayon blend fabric from Joanne. I loved this fabric and should’ve bought more! It’s chilly today but also it will be sunny, so I’m wearing it with my daddy’s shirt for sun protection. #s8885

I started this bundle the Monday after thanksgiving, because I wanted this snowflake top for December. I do love this wrap top pattern. The skirt is S8885, modified for a high/low hem. Next pictures are a short sleeved tee from the remaining snowflake fabric, with white rib knit collar and cuffs. It works with a sweater, but it’s going to be a little strange in June... The skirt is an old McCalls pattern. I lengthened the yoke of the skirt from 5” to 8”, then added a high/low hem. There’s a picture of me wearing it with a white wrap top I made some time ago, enjoying my newly refashioned mud room! Last out of this bundle is a Twig and Tale Meadow Skirt. Pattern from my @thesewciety box maybe 2 years ago? The fabric is a lightweight cotton, rather gauzy, and I added the lace around the hem because that was my vision for this fabric. I saw an outfit like this while scrolling through Pinterest 6 months ago, and I couldn’t get it out of my head. Then I saw this beautiful floral poplin from Melanated Fabrics a couple weeks ago and I knew it was meant to be 🤩 I finished making the outfit yesterday, just in time to wear to the opera! 😁 . The pants are Simplicity S8885 view C. I lengthened the inseam by 2” and shortened the rise by 1”. I also added the view D waistband. This was my first time sewing hook and eyes (and it certainly shows 😬). The poplin was a dream to work with! And it’s super light and comfortable. . I made the top a few weeks ago. It’s a heavily modified McCall’s M7606. I picked up these patterns in the recent Simplicity sale (which I think is still on, in the UK that is anyway). I think S8689 and S9233 will look lovely made up in some linens from the shop. I threw S8885 into my basket too because I’ve been wanting to make some loose flowy palazzo trousers out of a viscose and view D looked like a good option. Me Made May Day 16 finds me hoping for warmer weather in a white #h0172 top made from a super soft knit, and the #s8885 skirt made from a beautiful border print linen from @fabricmart . I only had one yard, which just wasn’t enough for a directional print like this, so I cut the panels in different directions, and used the border for the waistband. I used a plain red quilting cotton for lining the waistband because I was that short of fabric. I love a nice high waistband, and with this skirt pattern, I usually use a 12” zipper which I run all the way to the top of the band. And I had to split the center back panel to make the whole thing work. Worn with my dark gray Harper Cardigan to walk the dog, because it’s still only 61 degrees out. #memademay2023 day 28! This is the #s8885 by @simplicity_creative_group . I’ve made several versions of this skirt, but this one has the highest waistband of all of them. Both the skirt and top were from bundles from @fabricmart , and made last summer. The skirt was just one yard, and the only way I could showcase this border was to use it full height as the waistband. I also had to turn the side panels 90 degrees to avoid running out of fabric. I love this skirt- the pattern and this particular garment! The top is an old Simplicity pattern, a wardrobe pattern from the mid 1990s. I think it might have been a Threads pattern, but I’m too lazy to go find it now. It has 2 piece raglan sleeves and 3 pin tucks at the neckline. I’ve been staring at this skirt since Sunday, and just not finishing it. Anyway, it’s a nice airy cotton voile, from @fabricmart paired with the #b3344 top in a super soft knit, also from Fabric Mart, and both from the bundle I’ve been working on. Swipe through for close up pictures of the pleats I added at the sides and shoulders, as well as the knit neckband I added. The top is from the same pattern as the turquoise one I made last week. The skirt is based on the #s8885 , which I’ve made a few times, with the skirt flared more, and, of course, the swooping hemline. Fun fact: if your high-low hem isn’t exactly even, no one even notices! It’s the prettiest watercolor fabric I have ever seen and I haven’t seen it since boo! Top: I made this my second year of sewing!
