Pattern is #m8256 and I used this wonderful cotton lawn fabric I bought during my last trip to London few years ago. I decided to start sewing with my precious fabrics as my sewing skills have improved greatly so there is a lower chance of a failed project🤞🏾 . I cut size S and although it looked huge while I was sewing it, fits perfectly. This top will definitely be in high rotation this summer and fall. I wanted a peach rayon fabric to make an outfit for an upcoming event, and I thought this what I saw on the website was pretty much perfect. But…. It wasn’t 100% rayon, it was a rayon nylon blend. The bolt was also over dyed. It’s more deeply colored than what the online image suggested. I know, I know. Sometimes the internet lies. So instead of getting the 6 yards I meant to get for something I was still pondering, I got 1 1/2 to see how I liked that bold a floral in a fabric type I was less keen about. I don’t hate it. I got to make another #mccalls8256 which I wear often as a layering piece. Nylon isn’t so breathable and makes rayon heavier, so it will be a pass on the dream dress and I get the fun of redesigning another event ensemble. Yay! First make I’d the year. I did want to close out the one thing I didn’t get to last year, so I made a lovely cream chemise out of a rayon gauze. Instead of elastic cuffs, I put on real cuffs. Such a great day for me today! 🥰 Had a positive asthma review - much better now and review in 3 months. I was chuffed to bits!! Then, the sun was shining and I got into the garden to enjoy the spring flowers. 🌸🌺🌷🌼 And, to top it all, my #so50Reworn was a thought through layering effort (aka I thought about what to put on when I felt cold😅). McCalls M8256 is finished, and I love it!! 😍 Even Luke approves 🐈‍⬛😻 The sleeves are epic, and I didn't add any width to them. Photo 6️⃣ is the pattern piece, and all I've done is add to the back of the sleeve hem to dip it down a bit. (It's the pink paper taped to the bottom). Hopefully you can see in photo 7️⃣ how it dips down below the cuff. But this means the cuff can't be turned in for the elastic channel, so I had to add a separate cuff. This is just a rectangle of fabric, and the elastic goes in it. The fabric is some gorgeous rust coloured viscose from @likesewamazing and I made it to go with the dress in the first two photos. It's a self-drafted bodice with a circle skirt, and I made it a couple of years ago. It’s a #SewingTuesday so this is #MyStudentsWork: the #M8256 top has seams that match and some gathered rows awaiting even spreading to fit the bias binding we have yet to cut out, it’ll need to be pieced; a rtw dress that has never been worn provoked much discussion as to what it was the owner didn’t like, eventually resulting in a decision to pleat the shoulder to bring the armscye into line with the shoulder; the pattern pile was for consideration for a new project. Feeling all the retro vibes at the moment in my new top paired with workwear jeans! I bought this lovely 💚 floral a few years ago at our local car boot sale. It must be a vintage piece because its very narrow, always a sign of age, and I have been waiting for inspiration ever since. I haven't finished my green dress yet, and I was at sewing group yesterday (thank you @sosewdressmaking for organising, and @jubublian and @loridux for all the chat! 😁). I needed something that wasn't so complicated, so I brought along McCall's M8256 from this month's @lovesewingmag I made view D from some crinkle viscose left over from a dress. This was really easy, and the only thing I didn't get done was the elastic cuffs. I made size extra small, shortened the sleeves by 7cm, and lengthened the body by 5cm. I would recommend sizing down, as it's obviously very loose fitting. I would also recommend adding some length - I'm quite short, and would add more if I make this again. This was a toile because I'm terrified to cut into my nicer fabric 😅 The entire neckline is gathered (a first for me) and then covered by the neckband, and the balloon-y sleeves have elastic cuffs. I really like the flowy fit and I plan to add a drawstring tie to the neckline on the next one to make it more peasant top-ish. Second picture is to show what it looks like tucked in. Overall very quick and easy, and a fun silhouette! It’s a #SewingTuesday so this is #MyStudentsWork: a #CharityShopFind #M8256 #top has been cut out in a car boot sale discovery and these viscose separates are making progress. The “new” fabric is not square to the print/weave so it had to be cut singly. I think it will match 🤞There are leftovers which will be used to cut bias binding to use on this and other projects. The #McCallsPattern includes a pattern piece, but it cannot be cut out of the fabric available, hence this decision. The skirt was still felt to be too shapeless, so full length pleats have been added and need to be stitched in place. Buttons have been chosen from (my) stash for the blouse which has had its front plackets top stitched ready for hemming, buttons and buttonholes. I always try and dress for the occasion. A trip to an aquarium called for something in Sea in Colour from @thecraftylass, so I present to you my seaweed top. I absolutely love this pattern!
