Happy Tuesday 𝓛𝓸𝓿𝓲𝓮𝓼💕 I was so excited about this make… until I tried it on. I can’t quite put my finger on it, but it just doesn’t reflect my aesthetic the way I imagined. Originally, I planned to make the maxi skirt version. But, confession time, I didn’t read the pattern envelope carefully (again!), and didn’t realize the maxi skirt alone required 5 1/8 yards. I had exactly 5 yards. As usual, I dove in headfirst, cutting the top first and even lengthened it by 8 inches, which left me short on fabric for the final skirt tier. Oh, and did I mention there are twenty pattern pieces? A monster of a project! It’s a fairly easy pattern to construct, and technically I had no issues sewing it… but still. When I finished, I was eager to try it on, but my excitement quickly turned into disappointment. My husband and daughter, Kris, they all love it, but I’m still on the fence. Maybe it’s just that I’m stuck on what it could’ve been. That said… I took some really cute pics, lol to compensate. And I do think I’ll wear the pieces separately, the skirt with a tank top for summer, and the top with jeans or shorts, you see where I’m going. @mccallpatterncompany #m8482 with a magnificent viscose @libertyfabrics from @wearethefabricstore This fabric is even more beautiful in real life 😍😍😍 This is a very pleasing set on a very windy day which shows off its movement nicely! The top came together very speedily. I made a size 16 and added 7cm to the length as crop tops aren’t for me. I took 10cm off the length of the skirt and it was still too long and then I realised the middle section had been attached upside down and I could face undoing all the overlocking to correct it so I just made do. Luckily it’s so flowy that it covers a multitude of sewing sins 😂😂😂 I really love this set but it does gobble up about 5m of fabric. Good job I won a voucher @christchurchfrocktails which paid for it!!! The most twirly set!!! 💃🏻 If only I could dance 🤣⁣ ⁣ As soon as I saw this #m8482 set on the US Mccalls site (edited to add that this is now on the Aus site too), I had to have it. It has ALL the components that I am naturally drawn to - relaxed fit, flowy maxi skirt, added drama with the asymmetrical tiers!! Love at first sight 😍⁣ I knew I had to make it up in this linen, feeling me some #farmrio vibes!! ⁣ The only mod I made was to sew the waistband with 4cm wide elastic rather than the multiple rows (from memory it was 3) of thin elastics the pattern requires. I also do like to have as much extra volume and wiggle room as possible in my skirts, so I sewed the side seams with a 1cm allowance rather than the allotted 5/8 inch.⁣ ⁣ This was a relatively straight forward sew, but be warned there is A LOT of gathering due to the asymmetrical skirt tiers. Also, I didn’t trust myself to attach the correct skirt pieces together (there were a lot of pieces!), so I tripled checked everything before sewing.⁣ ⁣ Pattern:⁣ m8482 @mccallpatterncompany Fabric:⁣ linen from @supercheapfabrics ⁣

Here are two skirts that I sewed for two of the lovely teenage girls in my life. One is my niece and the other is my youngest daughter. The pattern is @mccallpatterncompany #m8482 My niece got version D, the long one with a straight hem sewn in black rayon poplin from @stylemakerfabrics ▪️My daughter wished for version C, which is shorter and has a slight asymmetrical hem, in a white rayon challis from @moodfabrics ▪️The white fabric was very lightweight, so I put in a little lining. Simply a rectangle the same width as the yoke pattern piece. I was surprised to see that I needed to make size 8 for them for the waistband to fit over the hips. They are 13 and 15 years old and both slender in stature. Which adults can fit in the size 4 and 6 in this pattern?!? 🤔 Not my problem, I guess. 😆 I did shorten the overall length for them both with 15 cm divided on two different layers, where they were straight. That was the easiest. The three bottom layers are split into a left, center and right pattern piece (cut twice for front and back), which helps with fabric usage. But you definitely have to keep track of your pieces, use the notches they have put in as markers in what goes together, and make sure you end up with an opposite front and back piece. I did not sew these front and back layers in the round (instead I sewed front and back separately and then the side seams) because there were some angles I didn’t wanted to deal with on top of all the others things. Lots of gathering of course, especially version D. The last layer is very big. 😮‍💨 Not a quick sew but definitely worth it. It’s a beautiful style and I totally want one too. Falling head over heels in love for this bias slip skirt ❤️ I paired it with this handmade puff sleeve crop top and I'm absolutely loving the combo I want to make more bias slip skirts to pair with cardigans for the Autumn. The Sati skirt was made in a size 42 with no adjustments, however, for the future, I'll take out 2cm from the front piece and add it in the back as the side seams pull towards the back.
