I went on a vacation and wore something handmade every day! I’ve been sewing clothes and (slowly) building a hand-made wardrobe for around 6 years now, and I’m so proud of this achievement! My latest make is a handkerchief-hem dress made using #s8384 in floral cotton lawn. I think I got the lawn online from somewhere like Supercheap Fabrics in the early days of lockdowns. I wanted to test #simplicity8384 so I decided this fabric could be used for it. I was initially going to make it with the cap sleeves but I took them off because they looked “blah” and restricted my shoulder/arm movement somewhat. I wish I had ignored the review suggesting downsizing the bodice because I actually have quite wide shoulders despite my top half being relatively small. The bottom of the dress is pretty much free-size. I sewed French seams throughout and it was the first time I installed inseam pockets with French seams (thanks to a tutorial from The Fold Line). The dress also has elastic at the waist back (yay comfort) which I enclosed in a French seam turned into a casing at the back. I also lengthened the bodice about 1.5cm. Swipe left to see pattern, back view and insides. The busy fabric does make it rather difficult to see the details I’m afraid! I have more of this fabric left and I’m going to try out a pretty top in the remnant. #summersewing #sewingdresses #sewover40 #australiasews #memade

I had a lovely time this afternoon chatting all things sewing at the annual @sew_melbourne Garden Party, hosted by the lovely @liblib & @abbythingsforboys 😍❤️ Pattern: Simplicity 8384 from @simplicitymccallsaustralia Fabric: Tulips print is a cotton sateen from Fabric.com and the contrasting pink is a cotton drill from @fabricdeluxe Buttons are also from @fabricdeluxe I sewed a straight size 10 (I'd normally grade between a 12 & 14) but @chic_sews's mentioned the pattern had a lot of ease and recommended I make an 8. I feel like the 10 was a good choice for me 😊 Years ago, I overheard a colleague say to another colleague, "She just headed upstairs. You'll find her in another floral dress" in a negative tone. I also sew! I made this top from the pattern Simplicity 8384. After watching many YouTube videos on fitting a commercial pattern, I made a few alterations to this one. I raised the neckline and waistline, and lengthened the skirt. This pattern comes with pockets for the dress that I shortened enough to fit the skirt part and attach to the hem. The fabric is a Premium Quilt Cotton named "Falling Branches" from Joann, very easy to work with as a beginner. I finished my hydrangea dress just in time for hydrangea season. I cannot get enough of these giant blooms! The pattern for the dress is simplicity 8384. I sized down, based on the finished garment measurements. I added an inch to the bodice length but I think I should have added more. I also made the elastic waistband all the way around, not just in the back. The fabric is a cotton lawn by rifle paper co, called hydrangea. It’s such a beautiful fabric, I was saving it for the perfect summer dress. After I laid out all the pattern pieces I was pretty pleased that I could get a midi length skirt out of my fabric. But wait ... after I cut everything out I realized that I forgot to cut out two of the skirt panels 😱 and I had no fabric left 😱 ... after a frantic search online, Andrey found @lakesmakerie, an awesome little shop in Minneapolis that was still carrying this fabric. The project was saved and now I can frolic amongst the hydrangeas in my hydrangea dress ❤️ #s8384 #simplicity8384 #bostonsews

Can one ever have enough dresses? Asking for a friend 😉 This dress is Simplicity #s8384 and it was such a quick and easy project! The fabric is a gorgeous Robert Kaufman cotton linen blend from @califabrics and it’s my favorite shades of blues. I’d say it’s more of a mid-weight fabric which lent itself perfectly to the straight lines of this dress. The only changes I made were to shorten the maxi length by 4 inches and I chose to stitch down the elastic channel in the back. �DE ⬇️ Somehow summer suddenly decided to end and let autumn in who’s telling me he’s here to stay. Which means… I really need to rush and show you my last summer makes! I wore this dress so so much in August, I absolutely love it and will try to wear it in September as well with a cardigan to keep me warm. It is the @simplicitymccallsuk Simplicity 8384 (view B, I lenghtened the skirt) in a gorgeous cotton linen fabric from the @minervadotcom Exclusive range. Cotton linen is one of my favourite fabrics to work with ever, and do I have to say anything about this wonderful floral print? 🥰 I really like the pattern too, I think I could have gone one size down as it was very wide in the waist, but decided to add an elastic all around the waist (instead of just in the back as the instructions say) which solved that problem. Summer, I wish you would never end! ☀️ DE Oh Mann, ich muss mich echt beeilen… irgendwie war der Sommer von heute auf morgen vorbei und ich habe euch noch nicht alle meine Sommerteile gezeigt. Ich habe dieses Kleid sooo viel getragen im August 🥰🥰 Der Schnitt ist Simplicity 8384 (Version B, ich habe den Rock verlängert) und der Stoff ein wundervoller Baumwollleinen von @minervadotcom . Baumwollenleinen ist ja eine meiner absoluten Lieblingsqualitäten geworden, fühlt sich so gut an und ist super zu verarbeiten. Der Schnitt ist auch toll. Ich hätte ruhig eins kleiner nähen können, er fällt recht groß aus und war mir sehr weit in der Taille.
