I made a 100% cotton fleece vest (apart from the zipper), because I didn’t want to use plastic fleece, which most fleeces are. I searched for cotton fleece until I found some @findafabric - this one is called ProEco organic cotton fleece. Pattern is #s1499 and I altered the pattern for view B slightly by omitting the binding and pockets, making the collar higher, adding a front facing and inserting the zipper edges between the facing and fabric, and adding ribbing bands at the armholes cut to 75% of the armholes length - which brought them in nicely as they were too big and gaping at the back. This fleece fabric is quite stretchy so I really didn’t need big gaping armholes. Then since this fleece is so lovely and soft I made a bunch of reusable round makeup remover pads (zigzagged at the edges) out of some smaller pieces of the scraps. Brought forward from 2022 is the atenas denim jacket from @itchtostitch It’s actually happening this year, I’ve cut it out already (in pink denim!) #itchtostitchatenasjacket 2. For Xmas Mr Minigems bought me some quilted fabric and a pattern to make a gilet. I hope mine won’t look as appalling as the one on the pattern envelope! 🤞 3. A dress - either the #nelldress from @thedressmakerscloset or #laundrydayteedress @lovenotions (or more likely, both!) 4. Cropped jeans. My favourite RTW pair are nearly worn through so I’m going to attempt to copy them. 😳 5. A pair of #quadrajeans @threadtheorydesigns for Mr Minigems (I’ve made these before so no fit challenges here) 6. When I did #memademay I decided this top needed a refashion as I don’t wear it. I found a bit more of the fabric in my stash so I have enough to work with. And then I did nothing more. So this year I’m actually going to refashion it somehow or cut it up and reuse the fabric to make something else. 7. I ordered this Xmas fabric in the post Xmas sale to make sweatshirts for Mr Minigems and my son for next year. 8. Fresh from the success of Xmas gift bags, I’m going to make some more but for birthday gifting. 9. I’m going to finish knitting this cardigan. It’s a long way off completion if I’m honest but I’ll do my best. A cozy vest just in time for the sunshine! ☀️ I completed this @simplicity_creative_group #s1499 and I don’t think it’s too soon to say that this is one of my favorite recent makes. I used some fluffy, decadent fleece I picked up at the Woods Hole Fiber and Fabric Sale last February (it’s happening this weekend! For MA-area folks, I highly recommend going. It’s a total treasure trove and I’m pretty sad I can’t make it this year!). I liked the contrast binding look of view A so I paired the fleece with a dark navy binding. In @angelawolffashion Fashion Sewing Club we have been talking about how to pattern hack vests. Here are two I made previously and one I am working on now. They are all made with the princess seam @asguildhq princess seam pattern simplicity 1499. The upcycle jeans, vest I am working on was inspired by Angela's new fashion challenge show @fabrictofashiontv on @madeitmyselftv and my @pikespeakcochapterasg Upcycle with Style group. It has some fit issues I am still working on. The fur one was for a class I raught to my # pikespeakcoloradoasg group on how to sew with fur. The wild circle one was for the annual @hoffmanfabrics challenge. It is reversible and I did all sorts of techniques. Cute linings deserve their own post!💕 If you look close enough, you might see cute little hand stitches on the bias tape too🥰 . If you watched my stories last week you may know of my inpatientness of waiting for this lining to come in the mail! One of my least favorite things is to get excited about a project, jumping right in, and not having all of the things you need, making you stop your project... and wait. . However! My second J Crew Excursion Vest is finished! 🥰💃🏼 It’s Simplicity 1499 but I modified the pockets and added lining. The outer is navy broadcloth lined with lightweight cotton interfacing, the wadding in the middle is leftover from my previous vest, and the lining is Japanese cotton lawn leftover from a competition dress. I’m really proud of the quilting - the lines are almost straight and the seams match really well 👌🏻 I started quilting it almost a year ago and then it sat in the naughty pile because it was just too hard to quilt with the Janome. This autumn I dug it out to finish it, and with the Bernina it was so much quicker and easier. I love a fleece vest. It’s perfect for the weather in Houston. I sewed the Simplicity 1499 pattern and used this sweatshirt fleece I purchased from Fabric Mart Fabrics a few years ago. I love the look of the fleece backing so that’s the side I used as the garment face. It mimics a Columbia fleece vest I own. I love keeping a sewing journal. It’s a great place to keep track of plans and pattern alterations. I needed a post Christmas party dress project to feel productive in my sewing space again. This is #s1499 from #simplicitypatterns. I've been looking for a gilet pattern for a while and this is wonderfully simple. I used a beautiful wool from the recent Knit and Stitch Show in Harrogate and lined it with fabric from my stash so nothing shows inside. I also made my own bias binding as I often find bought binding isn't wide enough. It turned out just as I'd hoped. The grey version is my toile for which I used felted wool which was so scratchy I had to interline. Before that I decided to add a layer of wadding and quilt it AFTER I'd cut everything out which meant the sizing went haywire as you can see. Note to self. Hot off the sewing machine! . My quilted jacket is finished! Lots of time quilting, but I couldn't be happier with the result! . For the pattern, I used simplicity #s1499 view A , a quilted vest pattern and I hacked and added sleeves. Other adjustments made: - added 1 inch to length - added 1.5 inch to center front on both sides to allow overlap - added snaps instead of zipper - didn't add batting in sleeves (I thought it was too bulky) .
