Assuming I have enough of this fabric I’ve changed my simplicity S9595 plan. I’ve been searching for a light, patterned fabric for a while now and I just haven’t found something that I loved. I considered making this out of a knit but because of all the rolled hems I decided that wasn’t something I wanted to take on 😅 anyhoo, I have this very soft brown fabric in my stash and I’m going to make these pants with it. I’m not a big fan of elastic waists so I plan on putting some pleats in the pants instead. I also want the wrap side belt that goes from front to attaching in the back to be thicker then the belt tie that goes back and ties in the front. I think it’ll look nice and the brown is definitely more versatile then a pattern print fabric. So hopefully it’s a win win! Only down side is I don’t know if the fabric is machine washable! I made Simplicity pattern S9595 (a revived vintage pattern that used to be 5082) out of this adorable owls cotton fabric that my partner gave me as a gift 🥰 ✨️Some edits I'd recommend✨️: it calls for 1" ribbon for the waist tie, but the channel for it is only 5/8"-3/4" when finished. I ended up swapping out for a 3/8" ribbon. In future I want the finished waistband channel to be much wider. Now that I've made it in something lightweight, I think it would actually be amazing for winter in a minky fleece fuzzy kind of fabric as well. You'd be able to pop these on over any warm undergarments you have, no problem! Well, it’s a wrap! Finished simplicity s9595 today. They’re comfortable, soft, and have a great flow. Modifications: I added a waistband, because of that I took two inches off the back waist length (not width) and four inches off the front waistband. The difference in inches were to give my backside adequate room for sitting. Because of the extra length in the back I had to taper the hem line because when it wraps around it was two inches too long in the front. Hopefully that makes sense. No elastic used so to compensate for that I added darts to the pants front and to the back. The fabric, I don’t know what it is but it’s very soft and flannel like. Perfect for those fall days I’m dreaming of 😉. Final thoughts, I won’t sew these again. They’re fine at home but using the restroom is tricky because of all the fabric. Its really hard to not let the straps and back flap hit the ground. Wrap pants wearable mock-up on simplicity s9595. They have great flow and I really enjoy them. A bit weird though. But they’re fun! I guess I have something to wear to the Barbie movie now 🤷🏻‍♀️💗. Pattern alterations: I made a waistband and some extra long ties. My fabric is a little too see through so I added a lining that is shorts length. I think instead of pleats on the back I’ll do darts when I make my brown pair. Continuing the zero waste pattern cutting theme, these Simplicity trousers (S9595) aren’t badged as such but there were only 2 small semicircular pieces of fabric left that could easily be turned into a small scarf or a scrunchie, so big tick from me. They are really easy to make, pretty much 2 pieces sewn together with casings for elastic and a tie which I elongated for some dangly swoosh! The fabric, which I love, is a floaty viscose from Empee Silk Fabrics. They’re wholesale but well worth a visit if you are a business. The top is another of my fabric use-up sun tops. Just more info on the last post, the mid 1970s Super Jiffy wrap pants pattern by Simplicity, sometimes called a pantskirt. Being sold as a reprint currently as #s9595 . There are sooooooo many versions of this pant available in terms of vintage patterns, as every company had at least one version, and they're all essentially the same. It's just so cute and so easy and fast. I wore mine the first time to a pioneer meeting in the afternoon, and I didn't even start cutting it out until I woke up that very morning. It's that fast and easy. This was made with a cut of vintage viscose I got at a thrift store. It was such a popular pattern in its day that as soon as I walked into the hall, I was approached by a sister who instantly recognized it and knew what the pattern was, as she had made it many times back in the 70s. The pattern typically calls for ribbon or a twill tape to use as the self-tie belt, for simplicity's sake, but I took an extra few minutes to make a tie out of the same fabric, as I thought it looked more pulled- together. I also used an elastic loop and button as the inner closure, since the Velcro it called for seemed SKETCHY. Always take the extra few minutes to make sure something will last and be modest in the long term, I say I'm all about the utility of one- size and adjustable-size garments for women, and hope to really focus on learning more about engineering them, for long- lasting, non- trendy garments that serve women through different phases of life.
