Nell’armadio fai da te parliamo spesso di confezione femminile, ma è tempo di imbastire pinces, tasche, fodere e fliseline per un lavoro tutto al maschile. Making progress 😁, although discovering the seam allowance is not included AFTER tracing the pattern and cutting the fabric was a shocker 🤦‍♀️. Luckily I found @susan_creates, who has made several and reassured me it will be ok. Anyone else had this issue recently? I’d been lead to believe that the ‘big 5’ pattern companies have been including seam allowances for a long time now. This pattern was only bought a few months ago 🤷‍♀️. I’ve also abandoned their instructions and I’m using the ones from Sew Over It Hackney shirt, which uses flat felled seams. My latest make is for my husband, it’s his birthday next week and didn’t want anything bought so we agreed I could make something. He doesn’t have many nice casual shirts so I found a pattern and this gorgeous cotton poplin from @poundfabrics and got to work. Pattern is #m8415 I had a few issues and found it intensely frustrating. I didn’t see that the left front needed to be cut thinner because you add a band for the buttonholes. I didn’t realise until I tried to put the collar on and realised one side of the neck was bigger than the other..🤦🏼‍♀️ a bit of maths and trimming later and the collar went in fine. Then it took 3 attempts to get one of the sleeves in and I still ended up with a small tuck in it. Then my machine refused to do buttonholes and so I ended up going to my Mum’s and using her machine to put the buttonholes on… I nearly gave up and I think I would have done if it had been a make for me.. I think I will just scream if it doesn’t fit… still got matching flat caps to make for my husband and our two boys before his birthday but hoping they are going to go a bit smoother… #birthdaypresentsewing #sewing #shirtsewing #cottonpoplin #sewingforthehusband #sewingismytherapy #sewingisfun #sewingproject

Cousu pour mon fils @nico_chdvl et pour l’anniversaire de sa grande sœur @liliechl 😘 Après validation de l’intéressé j’ai opté pour un modèle @mccallpatterncompany , le #m8415 , patron multiple (gilet, chemise, cravate). Je n’ai jamais eu de surprise avec cette marque et à part les marges de coutures incluses de 15mm, je n’ai vraiment rien à lui reprocher 😉. La réalisation est assez simple, la gabardine souple (laine ?) marine foncé provient de mon stock et la doublure rayée assortie de chez @tissusbennytex J’ai opté pour sa taille habituelle, le S et il tombe impeccablement sur lui 👌🏻 (Comme j’ai oublié la photo individuelle du vêtement porté j’ai flouté Séba et Alex sur une photo de groupe, sorry les garçons 😉 !) Finally put buttons on this #m8415 waistcoat I made at the end of 2023. I used scrap fabrics to test the pattern, a black denim for the fronts, a black twill for the back, and cotton to line the inside. This is a men’s vest pattern and I made the small. My first ever men's shirt 💪- the whole process was a good lesson. He's in between sizes S and M, decided to go for sz M - hoping the shirt will last a bit longer 🤞🤣. Fit: - Shoulders too big, but because my boy is still growing it's ok 😊 -he can fasten the top button, but it is tight. Next time I will need to do size L neckline and collar - will have to figure it out how to 🤔 - I finished with flat felled seams on the inside - my only change to the pattern. On the cutting table today we have some mid blue cotton chambray, bought at the @guthrieghani sample sale a couple of weeks ago. I’m making view C, the short sleeved shirt, from McCall’s pattern M8415. It’s the first time in many years I’ve used a ‘traditional’ pattern, rather than one from an Indie company. Goodness me, what a difference in the instructions. Luckily I have made a few shirts, so hoping it will come together smoothly. I’m attempting to use a collar size which is different to the body size, so anything could happen 😳, but hopefully it will be a positive learning experience 🤞.
