Her response is above and the rest, as they say is history 😂 I made her a size XS with no mods. (She should be an S based on her measurements.) They hang and fit her fabulously ❤️ I had a small remnant (intended) and made a pair of infant pants using #simplicity2291 for my chiropractor. Who can resist a bright coloured, floral print?! Not me, clearly 😂😂 I bought this stunning silk from Eliza's Fabrics (now closed 😢) in 2019 and considering the price (~$4/m), I'm not sure why I only bought 1.1m! I barely managed to squeeze out this top as it was only 120cm wide. #patterntetris anyone? OMG, silk is so slinky to cut and sew with so I'm really pleased that the square neckline is straight 🎉 I've paired the top with my overalls (#s9590) & RTW jeans but I'm planning to wear it with chartreuse linen pants 🤞❤️ Sewing: I cut a size 12, lowered the square neck to a size 8 at the bottom and extended the side seams to a size 13. Are these my dream overalls? Maybe* *but only if I cut them in the correct size first and figure out how to fit as I go… I enjoy all the different elements of these overalls. The pockets, the just perfectly wide enough leg, the top stitching details, the shape of the back, everything. Constructing the overalls was, initially, super enjoyable but they come together as whole front and then whole back pieces before finally being fit together at the inner and outer leg seams. And that, my sewist friends, is where it all fell apart. Because once again, I ended up with overalls that looked like fishing waders. Cue the sin bin for a couple weeks. But, I’m determined to prove to myself that I DO know how to make fitting adjustments. So I unpicked all that gorgeous double top stitching and carved out about 2” from the back, about an 1” from the inner leg seams and double folded the button placket to pull it in at the waist a little. Are they perfect? No. Do I love them? Heck yeah! Finally finished my first pair of overalls. It took me awhile since I had to order in some spare buttons from @kylieandthemachine after I messed up one with some over zealous hammering. Cream overalls might be a bit insane for a toddler mum but I love wearing white and cream so I know I’ll wear them loads. Pattern is #s9590 by @simplicitymccallsaustralia and the amazing cream denim is from @rathdownefabrics I had lots of denim left over and made a second project which is currently in the wash. 🧽

My first make of 2024 and it's a fun one! Inspired by @becsibbi's gorgeous pair of overalls, I decided to make some of my own. (I haven't worn dungarees for over 20 years.) I drafted a pattern but then I wimped out and bought #s9590 instead! My pattern and @simplicity_creative_group had some similarities but also a lot of differences so it's probably best that I left the drafting to the professionals 😂😂 I reckon these took about 10-12 hours to make but the most complicated part was getting the stripes to match. I cut single layer which definitely paid off - I'm very happy ❤️ This is my first faux fly - baby steps towards making a functioning fly 😂 I cut a straight size S (should've cut a M based on measurements but there's enough ease). I made no modifications other than the back finish. I used bias tape instead of folding over the fabric. I think it looks nicer and meant I could continue making progress while I waited for replacement hardware. It's mostly top stitched with normal white thread but then I remembered I had red top stitching thread so used it in a couple of selected areas. In hindsight, I wish I'd redone the fly 🙃 Fabric - Cotton drill from @salvosstores Pattern - Simplicity 9590 from @simplicitymccallsaustralia Hardware - @jimmybuttonau These have been worn in the wild twice already 😊 And I have another two pairs planned (one long and one shorts) so you'll see more on the grid though I'm not sure if I'd make any tweaks to the design as they're super comfy already! Here’s a few pics of my latest me-made outfit, which I made using Simplicity 9590 (#S9590) for the overalls and McCalls 8287 (#M8287) for the coordinating top! The pockets are hand-embroidered. I published a Reel last week documenting the process I used to create them, in case you’re curious! The floral fabric is cotton lawn printed by @spoonflower and donated by the artist who designed the print, @nancyleesspoonflowershop. It’s based on one of her original paintings! It’s so pretty and I enjoyed working with it. Thank you Nancy! I admire your painting talent and I tried to honor our collaboration to the best of my ability. Every time I wear these overalls I will be reminded of the magic of being a member of a worldwide community of artists and crafters who inspire and support one another. Together we are stronger and better, and I am so grateful for the technology that brought us together. The overalls were a LOT of work - lots of topstitching using jeans-grade yellow-gold topstitching thread, which required switching out my needle and thread every time I encountered a topstitching step. But I think the effort was worth it in the end, and I’ve been wanting to make a pair of overalls, complete with proper hammered-on overalls hardware, so now I can mark that item off my sewing bucket list! I probably will make them again. I made Size Medium (combined sizes 14-16) and I love the fit. The top is Size 12 with a 5/8” per side / 1-1/4” total FBA, and I lowered the side darts a bit. I am VERY happy with the fit and overall (no pun intended 😉) style. The top would have fit around me without an FBA, due to the amount of style ease in this garment, but sometimes an FBA is not just about getting the thing to go around your body - it’s about getting the garment to lay properly on your frame, similar to how it would look on a person with a B-cup, design ease and all.
