Butterick #B6749 midi skirt! Polyester floral fabric and a cotton-silk blend for the lining, both from Mood Fabric. This was a fun project! The first article of clothing I’ve made for Elissa, and we went shopping for the fabric together. It took a bit longer since my sewing was interrupted by a month in Mexico! But just in time for our first hot weather of May. . The pattern was super straightforward (if slightly opaque at a couple steps…), but I didn’t realize the challenges of (1) hemming a skirt, and (2) hemming a very wide flowy skirt that must have been like 6 feet of hem. This was also my first time cutting a pretty slippery/shape-shifting fabric (the cotton silk lining) and that also was interesting. Also, for the first time ever, the fabric requirements did me wrong 😱 and I had to ditch the pockets (though honestly I don’t think either of these fabrics is the right material for a pocket?!?). Anyway, very relieved at how it turned out, and with the quality of the Wawak ribbed non-roll elastic 🥳).

I used Artisan Splash from Lady McElroy and lined the skirt with a plain white Cotton Lawn, so it has volume but will still be cool for the summer months ☀️ I sometimes struggle to find patterns to use with Cotton Lawn as it can be quite sheer, but it’s difficult to find patterns with instructions for lining 👀 If you happen to have any good pattern suggestions, I’d love to hear 😃😃 I love the simplicity of this skirt.
