Planning parties according to a theme starts a couple of years in advance for me, so I can be thrifty. Over the last couple of years I had been acquiring some ceramic pigs and wood cutting boards to create a Farmhouse themed 2020 grad party for our Amos. My outfits were intended to mimic a butcher's apron to pay homage to his career choice. Covid changed our party plans, as we pulled together a last minute outdoor celebration at the baseball field next door. Even though I didn't get to use my centerpieces and all of my decor, the outfits were accomplished since I had begun sewing them in February. Since we were staying home and my fabrics were at my mom's, she actually finished the sewing for me. Each of the girls' outfits feature gingham that I found at the Goodwill for $3. 🐖Miriam's jumper was sewn by my mom. The denim was clearanced at a fabric store's going out of business sale. It was $1.80/yd. Her pattern is Simplicity 8641, a @sewhouse7 pattern. Her top was 80s vintage. 🐖Anna's dress has chambray and a farm print from @hobbylobby. It is sewn from Simplicity 1080, a @dottieangel pattern. My mom made this one. Some of you warned me of the instructions and construction of this one. My mom is a very accomplished seamstress and said the pattern belongs in the garbage. 🐖Martha's jumper is McCall's 7459 and I embroidered ric rac chickens around the hem. The top was from some stash fabric and made from a self drafted pattern. 🐖Gideon's bibs are also McCall's 7459. The brown twill was also $1.80/yd at the close out. His shirt was thrifted. His big brothers also wore thrifted shifts. 🐖I accessorized with some #memade baubles: an embroidered rooster necklace, macrame hoops, and another @katiekortmanart headband.

#fallforcostume Day 28 Recycled . I love using recycled or repurposed materials in my projects! It cuts down on cost, keeps items out of landfills, and insures I will have completely unique items. Recently I've been using curtains in a lot of projects. I made my pinafore dress (pics 1 and 2) from linen/cotton blend #potterybarn curtains. If I had gone to the fabric store and bought the same fabric off a bolt it would have cost quite a bit of money. But instead I thrifted the curtains for ONLY $2.50!!! They had a small bit of staining, so not really usable as whole curtains, but I cut around that and made a dress I love! I used the curtain lining for the pockets and facing and even the buttons were repurposed from something else. My daughter's pinafore dress (pic 3) was made from a shirt she had outgrown and a curtain that was an usual size. It extended the life of the items and I still have material left from both to use in the future. Lastly (pic 4) is a project on my to make list. I'm trying to use as much recycled and repurposed materials for it as possible. I finally found a green curtain set at Goodwill recently for under $5 for the tunic part. It's a little lighter color than I was planning, but as long as the other colors compliment it everything should be fine. What do you like to recycle or repurpose in your sewing?? . The little daughter of some dear friends of mine asked if I would make her rainbow overalls for her 4th birthday. OBVIOUSLY I said yes. It was the most pure fun I’ve had sewing in ages, and her explosive delight when she tried them on was glorious. I sewed McCall’s 7459 in a size 6 for this tall kid. I replaced the straps with elastic to make them easier to get on and off, turned them into shorts (her preference), added a little room in the legs/hips for more running and jumping freedom, and added extra pockets so she can carry her important snacks and treasures. If I made them again, I’d move an inch or so of the torso length to the bodice pieces, since they’re a bit weirdly short-waisted, but they fit her fine so it all worked out. Sewing for my granddaughter this time. The pattern used is McCalls #m7459 , the lovely fabric is from @thedenimcompany and the #kylieandthemachine label was from @sewmesunshine.uk . The waistband in this pinafore argued every step of the way with me. It was my fault, but I think I’ve managed to fix it. All that is needed to be done now is to sew on the strap buttons once I’ve checked the correct length for fit.
