I went out to lunch with my best friend today and had a sweet young woman walk by and tell me that she loved my skirt and belt combination. Of course, I was too shy to say “thanks, I made it” (the skirt) but, boy, was I thrilled to get that compliment! This skirt is a McCall’s #m8248 made in rayon from @mandlfabricsanaheim. I made a toile from cotton to get used to the pattern and then decided to give this rayon a go. It was tricky to cut on my cutting mat because the skirt pieces are pretty long, but easier to sew up than I was fearing (as long as I went slow-ish). I French seamed the whole skirt and feel great in it! I’m feeling accomplished with this skirt and getting braver to try more rayon fabric! Here is my finished skirt, styled and ready to wear!! This pattern was okay, but I used a rayon challis for it which made it a bit tricky and the zipper construction was a bit weird. It was also interesting learning how to make the pleats! I started Yellowstone today. I was told it would fill the Sopranos shaped hole in my heart. A little fall quick-sew—McCalls 8248 pleated midi skirt. This is view C with 2.5” added to length and 1” added to pleat stitch depth. For clean/no serge insides, I did French seams, hand stitched hem, handpicked zipper, and hand-tacked in Petersham ribbon as a zipper shield (per instructions in @susankhalje Cotton and Linen book). Fabric is unknown as I got it from a bunch of fabric someone dropped off for give away at a @susankhalje pop up in Baltimore. Skirt complete! Fabric is an IKEA duvet which I cut up, other scraps to be used in another project. Pattern is McCalls 8248. Very fun and easy pattern to make. The pleats are super flattering and the length options are really nice. If I could only choose one item to wear for the rest of my life, it would be midi skirts. They're just SO versatile: wear them with summer sandals and a tee, with a denim jacket and sneakers, or cozied up like I did here today with boots and my #septembersweater. Add some fancy heels and a sequin top and you're ready for a holiday party. You really can't go wrong, ever! Considering my deep love for midis, I'm also always looking for interesting patterns to add to my collection. This one from @mccallpatterncompany (#m8248) has deep pleats across the front and back, which is a surprisingly nice feature. All of that pleated fabric adds some really satisfying volume and swooshiness to the hem without being too bulky at the waist. And this fabric (from @corefabrics, which is quickly becoming my go-to fave) is absolutely stunning and can be paired with so many different tops in my wardrobe. Anyway - this is a simple project, but I really love how it turned out. It just feels like *me* - and that's a pretty great feeling. 💕
