Made my favorite person a birthday bomber ❤️‍🔥😎🍻🎉 This is #m7637 in a size medium. I learned some new skills in the process (first separating zipper!). There’s very few actual pattern pieces and the base of the pattern is very hackable and effortlessly cool. HOWEVER, the lining insertion method was dumb to me and I wish I did it differently. I sort of dealt with the lining however I could, which was slipping the raw edge under the zipper tape and topstitching down. This meant the top of the lining near the collar is shoddy and ugly (last pic). Martín picked out his own outer fabric (waxed canvas) from @moodfabrics 🥰 Now I need to make myself a cropped bomber and moto jacket🤭

Remember this failed project? It finally got busted out of my WIP queue, completed and sent to the great Mind shop in the sky. Still, lots of lessons were learned here, the chief one being not to be so bloody hard on myself. The reason this project stalled in the first place was a wonky zipper installation (bottom end) but when I came to check it to see if it was donateable, the error was far less noticeable than I'd feared when I shoved it in a bag in 2019. Why don't I rescue it I hear you ask? 2019 me was two sizes smaller so hopefully it will appeal to some other weirdo. What, you mean blue guipure lace and scuba aren't your cup of tea?!? 😂 There's some nice bits of sewing here though with tricksy little fabrics. Those jet pockets (I think that's what they're called, I'm sure sewing Instagram will correct me if not) and applying the banding were all good. But I don't like the raglan style on me so much as the set-in shoulder one of M7637 that I used to make my reversible pink/blue floral one. I think it suits small shoulders better. I decided to make the green quilted fabric the outside fabric and reuse the existing black fleece lining from the original project as this lining, omitting the mandala print. I'm adding a few patches, and changed the pockets from welt to patch pockets using an altered wonderful pocket pattern from #sewingworkshop #sewconfident January project. This quilted bomber jacket was a fun challenge and I’m really proud of it, especially because it was a big 4 pattern which I generally avoid when I know there will be techniques I’m not confident in. But this time when it said things like - put in a welt pocket, sew in the lining, install the zipper in this specific way - I didn’t panic and I didn’t follow their crappy pictures, I just went to YouTube and figured out the best way. In this case there was amazing tutorial for sewing a bomber jacket by QUTFashionStudio, it was really helpful and got me through with minimal frustration. 💣 The fabric is from @boltfabricpdx and I quilted it in diamonds which unfortunately is difficult to see since the thread is black. Pattern is #m7637 which turns out to be a mens pattern (not clear from the pattern picture) , I made the smallest size then took 2” from the length of the body and sleeves, and narrowed the sleeves at the wrists by 2”. 💣 #quiltedbomberjacket #memade #memadeeveryday #mccalls7637 #mccallspatterns

I was able to find just the right type of ribbing and zipper at @botani_trimmings in New York on one of my Fabric Shopping and Fashion trips. I had just the right color of Ultrasuede by Skinner in my stash for the sleeves and back. The lining was purchased at @pacificfabrics in Seattle. I used the McCalls 7637 pattern and first made a wearable muslin in blue wool to decide if this was a jacket I would get a lot of wear out of. The answer was YES 🤗! The leather, Ultrasuede and ribbing was easy to sew. I used a Universal 80/12 needle and just the regular pressure foot for most of the construction. I lengthen my stitch to 4 for the seams and 5 when I sewed the leather, Ultrasuede and ribbing together. I was unable to stick a pin the leather and Ultrasuede so I used clips. I had to switch to a walking foot to topstitch and a topstitching needle size 90/14. I will be hosting another Fabric Shopping November 12-14, 2024. You should join me. Silver and Gold Silver and Gold Silver and Gold Christmas outfits on every Krause kid... Here it is, my frugal attempt at dressing my kids to fulfill a theme that I plan a couple of years in advance. It was three years ago while shopping Black Friday at JoAnn Fabrics when I decided on a modern metallic Christmas to come. I purchased two quilting cottons- Martha's jumper and Anna's top- on sale and used an extra 25% coupon to get them cheaper. Here is the lowdown.... Anna's Tinfoil look (her description) features a top that I sewed using a Simplicity pattern. Her pewter pull on pants came from Target for $18.20 and her sneaks are clearance Old Navy. You can't see it, but they have a silver tab. Martha is wearing a jumper sewn from a early 2000s pattern, Butterick 3960. I have used it many times for her older sisters. The gold dot fabric for her top was $1/yd clearance at Hobby Lobby and sewn from Simplicity 9231. Her shoes and beanie were each a buck at Walmart. Gideon's jacket was made from a different silver quilting cotton that I bought on clearance as our local quilt shop went out of business. I used McCall's 7637 to sew it. The tie fabric was from JoAnn's and sewn from McCall's 4290. His black pieces are from his closet, and the silver sneakers came from Goodwill. I was never able to find any great options for the big boys this year, so they were good sports and donned some black and gray. Here’s another unfinished / unwanted quilt top. It’s comfy, cozy made entirely of flannel squares gifted to me by the #rochmn Castle Quilters. What would you turn it into?❓ Hmmmmmm…🤔 Bib overalls were my first idea. 👍 But then I thought that might be too much of a good thing. 😳💛💜 So my next idea was a bomber jacket.👍 But those frequently have knit ribbing around the waist, neck and sleeve cuffs, and I didn’t know where - or even IF - I could find a nice coordinating rib knit. 🤔 So I decided to go with a basic, zip-up, hooded jacket using the gender-inclusive pattern by McCalls #M7637 . I found some purple flannel to use for the lining and the perfect zipper! This is one of my absolute best makes. It’s a cropped McCalls 7637 in a plush velour. This is unlined (pattern has a lining) and made specifically to do the job of the Juicy Couture hoody that I bought from Vinted but was too small (and swiftly and gratefully nabbed by my daughter). Finally finished! This has been a much interrupted project. But finally I have a finished product. It probably didn’t help that I didn’t start with a clear plan in mind, instead made each panel up as I went along. I am really happy with the finished garment and I’m sure it’ll get lots of wear. In total 4 pairs of jeans and a pillow case were recycled for this make 👊 The striped panel down the sleeves (my favourite part!) were created using Jean waistbands and offcuts from the pillow case. I used #m7637 as my base pattern and hacked it a little to create front and back yoke and sleeve panel. I am getting plenty of joy from this @simplicitymccallsaustralia pattern 😍 I’m enjoying creating from recycled textiles more than I thought I would. It feels rewarding to breathe new life into them. One pattern Two jackets A bunch of charity shop bought fabric. Picked up the floral stretch fabric and black crushed velvet from a local charity shop and felt pattern M7637 would be great for both. I had this fabric for a while with the intention of making a bomber jacket, finally I have made one. This is based of #m7637, made a few modifications. I know the colour of the ribbing is a bit out there 😂, I love snake print but I don't think brown suits me, so thought a contrast ribbing would lighten it up 😁. Also, I wanted to use what I have, it looks good to me 😊. I used white satin lining. Main fabric was bought from a closing down sale and lining and zippers were opshop find. I can’t believe it’s already been over a week since our Eras Tour experience 😭😭😭 I am excited to share all the details of the outfits I sewed for the event. Sewing for concerts is probably my favorite type of sewing because there is so much artistry and joy that can be poured into the pieces. First up, I am highlighting the sequin bomber jacket I made for Adam. He gave me free rein for anything I wanted him to wear, and I considered comfort, authenticity, practicality and of course, sparkle when I was brainstorming. Ultimately this jacket felt like a perfect option to fully embrace the Swiftie vibes and still feel completely like him. I chose this jacket pattern because it had the particular look I was going for and because it was simple enough that the sequin fabric wouldn’t cause any major issues with construction. This fabric + lining turned out to be the perfect combo for this project. The outer fabric is a sequin velour and was fairly drapey, but thankfully the bonded knit jersey I used for the lining provided enough structure and weight that they balanced out perfectly. As far as the pattern goes, it was mostly fine but I had to undo the sleeve cuffs and cut out a large wedge from the forearm area to make the sleeves fit correctly around the wrists. Annoying but I got the fit just right in the end. As you can see, I went absolutely nuts on Etsy buying all the Taylor themed patches I could find. I tried to use a mix of shapes and colors and of course, made sure all the eras were represented. Sewing them all onto the sequins directly was not something I had patience for, so I used a scrap of fabric from Caroline’s dress to create this centerpiece for the back of the jacket. I loved the way this turned out visually and I think it was more impactful than scattering the patches all over the jacket. I've been planning on using the poly mandala print for a bomber style jacket, and the green liner will do well with it. Here is the “Breakfast Bomber Jacket” - a name coined yesterday by the always clever @whendy7 !! Thank you, Wendy Dear!!😘 And look who’s wearing it - the beautiful @thestitchuationroom Thank you so much, Stephanie!!😘👏👏 Pattern: McCalls Unisex lined jacket #M7637 Materials: * about 46 Granola bags (cereal eaten & bags collected over the past 4 years) * cotton batting and brown satin lining from stash; * collar cut from a discarded sweater. I wanted to use the sweater for the cuffs & waistband too, but it was very old & didn’t have enough recovery / elasticity. * zipper & rib knit purchased from @srharrisfabric Biggest mistake: I thought my glue stick would permanently adhere the plastic bags to each other & to the batting. And maybe it would have if it wasn’t the “Repositionable” type. NOOOOooo!! 😱 Repositionable basically means it does not stay stuck!! 🤦‍♀️ So it held things down while I stitched - good 👍, but the stickiness disappeared after a few days - bad 👎. If I had realized it immediately, I could have stitched along all of the “raw” edges making things perfectly secure. But I DIDN’T realize it & my quilting lines are diagonal so lots of straight edges were not held down. I tried to go back in with a Q-tip full of glue to secure all my edges, but that was messy & didn’t work so well. 🤦‍♀️ Now I know for the next time. I just finished a wearable muslin bomber jacket. I am planning to make this up in leather and wanted to test the pattern, fit and style before I cut into my leather. I used a blue wool fabric and black heavy ribbing, both donated fabrics. The black zippers are from Wawak @wawaksewing . I like fun linings so I chose a stretch woven polyester from Pacific Fabrics @pacificfabrics. I altered #M7637 to fit me. Sleeping bag transformation #3 with recycled duvet cover for lining. This one is so cool! First project of 2024: Frankenstein Bomber Jacket using 3 different patterns and 3 different fabrics from @houseofmamiwata 💙💛🤍 I had an idea in my mind months ago, falling in love for the sleeves from #v1891 and marrying that on a really cool bomber jacket, with hood #m7637. Yet I thought adding length would also be cool like the varsity bomber from KnowMe pattern of Sins of Many #ME2010. As I was dreaming and collecting patterns and fabric over the next couple of months, I came across the awesome sleeves on Beaut'e J'adore's McCall pattern! So not to abandon my original dream jacket, I will be doing #M7636 right after I'm done with my Frankenstein Bomber! The year is 1990, Bomber jackets were the thing to wear (in khaki or black) with a patch sewn on the back - at the time Public Enemy was the most popular one to have (at least in Adelaide 😀). Fast forward 35 years and I have made my own rather than buying it from the Army disposal store on Rundle st - this time minus the patch and a far cooler lining. Both outer and lining fabric is from @johnosfabrics and I quilted some batting to the lining before cutting the pieces out for extra warmth and bulk. I chose the @mccallpatterncompany 7637 pattern as it was lined and it’s a unisex pattern which has 4 sizes to sew. I made a M, but could easily go down to a small if I made it again. It was a pretty easy jacket to make, although the instructions on the zip pockets weren’t the best. I needed to shorten the centre zip too by removing the extra metal teeth, otherwise there were no mods. Zips were a bargain from Tradways and look better than the chunky plastic one I had originally bought for it. Not sure I love it, but I would definitely wear it inside out, rather than the black side #m7637

In my excitement of the return of @britishsewingbee tonight, I have started a new project. This is McCalls pattern M7637, style B. I found the fabric at a charity shop and it's the perfect amount.
