I've finished my Rosey Pants 💐 I didn't quite get them done in January for #sewfancypants2023 as I had hoped, but they are finished! . In true me style I made errors through the process which turned a quick make into a long one 🤦‍♀️ I put the zip in wrong twice, sewed one of my enclosed/french seems backwards, and ran out of coordinating thread - again 😳. However, I love them so calling my second #memade2023 piece a win! They have the best #swishfactor and I love that you can just see the rosey pockets poking out the sides.😍 . I'm wearing them here with a cropped tee I opshopped/thrifted for 50c then splatter dyed. 😉 . So, I finished this skirt on Monday night and left it sitting next to Hepsibah so I’d take pictures. Then life happened, and here it is Friday. Some of you will recognize that this is a white version of a green border print that @diaryofasewingfanatic @gmariesews and I all got at @carriagecornerbandb Sew Camp in June. I really love the skirts I made from the green, but this fabric at 1 yard wasn’t wide enough to make a skirt conventionally. #B6179 had the answer: change the direction of the print for the side panels! I used the entire width of the border for the waistband, and ran the invisible zipper to the top. 2019 was filled with fabric/pattern buying more than actual sewing itself because of our move home after being in India for 3.5 years. Nonetheless, my big BIG sewing project (or almost nightmare) was this 👆🏻 A pseudo lehenga for a friend’s wedding in Jaipur. While I did have some saris on hand, I wanted something that was easy to slip on and off and 6 feet of fabric is definitely something tricky to work with especially when I had no clue how to wear a sari by myself. So I overestimated myself and decided to make a wedding outfit from scratch minus the dupatta (the scarf on my shoulder). It took me a while to figure out what patterns to use and eventually I decided on the #B6179 for the skirt which I had in my stash. I lengthened it to make it maxi length which was by its own a major headache because I didn’t want to add more volume to the skirt bottom. For the top, I used a basic princess seam bodice template from the book “Sew Many Dresses, Sew Little Time” - huge lifesaver! I wanted the look of a lehenga top without the revealing nature of one and this was a great option. There were many headaches when it came to the final construction of the pieces and despite having a huge leadtime of 3 months, I sat on this for ages and only started proper work on this a week before the wedding. Never again! It’s not perfect but it worked out, looked great and was super comfy to be in! Would I do this again? Probably not! . 2 finished garments from my first bundle! The skirt is #b6179. I made this last winter (I think) from a red and white border print. This is a super lightweight embroidered fabric. I had to dig to find a tan quilting cotton to line it, because it was just that transparent. Now, of course, it’s kind of too heavy for hot summer wear, so spring and fall are its official seasons. The other thing I finished is the #ficuscardigan by @sewlikemymom . This pattern came in one of my boxes from @thesewciety along with a black sweater knit with metallic threads throughout. It’s a somewhat dressy cardigan which I thought would pair well with the lacy fabric. I expect I’ll wear it with a narrow belt. I’m pretty pleased with both of these makes, and will probably start my next project later. #b6179 8 gore skirt from the remnants of the fabric used for that maxi skirt last week! OK, so the flowers are running upside down, because I had to fit the pattern pieces in the wedges left by cutting out the long skirt. And there wasn’t enough fabric in any continuous piece to make a waistband, so I had to create facings. But who wants to throw out such nice fabric? As the envelope says, this is an easy pattern to make. Honestly, other than to determine which pieces I needed, I didn’t even read the directions. I bought this pattern about 6 months ago, and this was the first time I’ve used it. I am intrigued by the 2 color option, however. Lately I have been drawn to simple shapes, good quality fabrics and easy to wear styles. I can’t remember the last time I ever wore “just a T shirt” 😆 but here we are. A basic over sized white crew neck T shirt made using #s2317 and some bamboo Lycra jersey, and an animal print skirt made using #b6179 and some viscose crepe jacquard.
