#memademay2024 day 20! I wore my bright red #m7626 jumpsuit to work today, and luckily didn’t get any paint or clay on it. I found this amazing midweight red linen fabric at the thrift store down the road and had just enough for this jumpsuit. Thank you to whoever donated it! I cut a straight size 12 but I should have graded a bit smaller on the top and bigger on the bottom (I had to let out the seam allowance a bit). I also added elastic in the waistband for comfort, and it was a great decision.

Even though I can see the whoopsie daisies in it I still love to throw it on, especially as it’s a winter dress and it’s So.Flerpin’.Cold today! I finished a couple projects recently! The dress is #m7626 B by @simplicity_creative_group . I think it's my favorite piece in my wardrobe right now, and I can't wait to make another. It was my first time making a dress! I also added a shot of the lining since I used a pretty floral pattern that I think adds a nice touch :) The second is @alphapatternss a-line skirt in Mei! I love this pattern so much that I've already made two of these skirts, and I'm planning on making more! It's so versatile! I had a lot of fun imagining a dream wardrobe for my trip to visit my great aunt in Palm Desert. After a week of holiday here, my neck has finally recovered from the Pinterest research for 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s play suits 😜 This #M7626 was made in a vintage screen printed fabric, and debuted at the Living Desert zoo. After getting approving eye contact from a giraffe, I found my way through the crowds to the hiking path where the information panels told me about the palo verde - a tree whose green trunk is a desert-climate adaptation to perform photosynthesis. After leaving I discovered my trunks had also turned a kind of B-movie green from the dye transfer of the fabric, so my photo took place later by the pool :)

It has pockets! Starting working on this to console myself on Friday after coming home from the airport when our flight to spend Christmas with family was cancelled. It was a good distraction. Pattern is McCalls 7626, fabric is a heavy polyester knit from @artpartscrc. I cut one size smaller than my pattern envelope measurements so it fits perfectly in the bodice but maybe could use a little more ease in the hips? Oh well, it’s cute and has pockets. SLC Frocktails ‘fit! I am terrible about taking photos during events 😆 so this Polaroid at the end is the only pic I have from #slcfrocktails. There is a reason my husband has the family photographer assignment in our house… But here’s my outfit, finally photographed! A few months ago in Joann, I saw someone wearing a similar jumpsuit and HAD TO HAVE IT. I bought this gorgeous stretch cotton corduroy from @blackbirdfabrics during their Black Friday sale in preparation, while I searched the interwebs for an indie pattern that would work. Alas, the closest thing I could find was this McCall’s #m7626, so I bought the pdf version. I looked at the finished measurements (bust and hip but no waist????) and decided to size down from a 12 (suggested for my measurements) to a 10. I love the finished product, but definitely had to make some adjustments. The pants actually fit great as cut. The waistband was smaller than both the bodice and pants somehow, so I cut a new one of those. Then the straps were about an inch too short, so I cut two new straps. And I actually did try on the bodice lining like a toile and took it in under the arms by an inch each side, tapered to nothing at the waist. And it still has gapping at the back near the zipper. It’s not too bad and I don’t want to mess with the lines of the corduroy, so I’ll probably leave it, honestly. So there were issues, but again, I love it. And #slcfrocktails was a blast! I got to chat with old friends and make some new ones! Everyone’s outfits were fabulous and I love our growing sewing community! I was pretty happy with the toile of this pinafore dress, and (apart from my usual adjustments) only needed to lengthen the straps an inch. This is the latest version - satin backed velvet. Friends will know I never wear black. My funeral attire is navy or grey - but I thought I'd dip my toe in and try a black pinafore, as I can wear brightly coloured tops underneath. I had a lot of fun imagining a dream wardrobe for my trip to visit my great aunt in Palm Desert. After a week of holiday here, my neck has finally recovered from the Pinterest research for 1940s, ‘50s, and ‘60s play suits 😜 This #M7626 was made in a vintage screen printed fabric, and debuted at the Living Desert zoo. After getting approving eye contact from a giraffe, I found my way through the crowds to the hiking path where the information panels told me about the palo verde - a tree whose green trunk is a desert-climate adaptation to perform photosynthesis. After leaving I discovered my trunks had also turned a kind of B-movie green from the dye transfer of the fabric, so my photo took place later by the pool :)

I have been wanting a vintage looking jumpsuit for a while. McCalls 7626 isn't vintage, but it looks like a vintage style and it was just the pattern that I needed to nudge me into making one. I should have made a muslin or at least measured my pattern because I did run into one HUGE problem with this. I'm petite and thought the crotch and bodice length would be too long, as they usually are, so I originally took out some length by sewing this without the waistband. Uh, surprise surprise, it was too short. I put the band back in. Even when I put it back in, it was still a smidge too short. I took it off and sewed it back on with a smaller seam allowance. TG it finally fit! But the band is a little too wide for my taste. I like the design of this jumpsuit, the fitted bodice, the wide legs, the wide straps, and the pockets. It's hard to see the pockets, so I styled it with the McCalls NYNY 2181 hoodie that I recently made, and put the sleeves in the pockets. I just made the hoodie recently, but I really like it and have already worn it several times. I'm treating this as the muslin that I should have made. I thought it would be a wearable one, and at first it was. But that was only because it was new. Once the newness wore off, I saw clearly that this is not wearable for me. I don't like how it looks or fits on me. On my next one, I'm making the proper fit adjustments, and I'm sure I'm going to love it. Until next time, take care of yourself. It has pockets! Starting working on this to console myself on Friday after coming home from the airport when our flight to spend Christmas with family was cancelled. It was a good distraction. Pattern is McCalls 7626, fabric is a heavy polyester knit from @artpartscrc. I cut one size smaller than my pattern envelope measurements so it fits perfectly in the bodice but maybe could use a little more ease in the hips? Oh well, it’s cute and has pockets. Planning my #makenine2022 around patterns I already own and fabrics already in my stash! I had a little project planning paralysis so this was a good exercise and I'm really excited now. 1. Dress with sleeves based on #s8292 with basic bodice and #charmcircleskirt made out of @ikea duvet cover I got in the as is section. 2. Jeans from some @joann_stores denim, thinking about using #s8516 but may hold out until @helens__closet releases their new jeans pattern. 👀 3. Dress that is a hacked version of #m7920 with set in sleeves using @dearstellafab leaf print cotton. 4. Black shorts hacked from #m7626 and made with a cotton twill from @fabricdotcom 5. A cotton petticoat with #s8456 to wear with all my dresses and skirts! 6. @joann_stores Rainbow cotton gauze #winslowculottes inspired by the pair @ayellowkitchen made. 7. #m7952 but with a zipper in the back instead of buttons to make it more comfortable. Gonna use this adorable tablecloth I got on eBay because I was inspired by the Luana apron dress @less.thansimple made with it and tracked it down immediately. 8. #b6390 in the same denim as the jeans. Will be perfect for layering with dresses as it is a cropped style jacket. 9. A dress based on #s9294 / #b6556 but with a different neckline for my incredible @dearstellafab Sew Mischievous fabric. I finished a couple projects recently! The dress is #m7626 B by @simplicity_creative_group . I think it's my favorite piece in my wardrobe right now, and I can't wait to make another. It was my first time making a dress! I also added a shot of the lining since I used a pretty floral pattern that I think adds a nice touch :) The second is @alphapatternss a-line skirt in Mei! I love this pattern so much that I've already made two of these skirts, and I'm planning on making more! It's so versatile! I should wear more blue!!! 💙💙💙 I had a best day wearing my McCall's #m7626 playsuit at the beach last week! I don't wear a lot of blue but this print is literally what my dreams are made of 😅. The playsuit was super comfy (it was my very first time wearing it out and about) but I did notice that I would prefer the waist to sit a little lower cause I felt like my bust was shorter looking in this outfit. Wore this dress to go see Barbie and realized that even though I made it a few years ago I’ve never posted a photo of it. Pattern is McCalls 7626, the fruit fabric was stolen from my moms fabric stash (thanks mom!). Earrings are @winnieclay_ and I just had to wear my watermelon Goodr sunglasses to complete the fruit themed ensemble! And thank you to Lainie for being the best photographer!
