OMG! I am so excited about this dress! It's #memademay2024day1 and I can't wait to wear this! So let's get to all the deets...this is #M8322 in view A from @simplicity_creative_group . I picked up an end of bolt rayon from @cinnamonsquilts . The #fabric is called #flowerbloom from @artgalleryfabrics in #staygroovyscarlet. That's a little unexpected because the thread was coral and the zipper was peach so I actually think this fits closer to #peachfuzz. the #panetonecoloroftheyear2024. I underlined it in a very pale pink batiste from @spechlervogeltextiles because it was too lightweight and sheer on its own. The two #fabrics together are giving the dress a little oomph in look and feel. I faced the hem and added a third tuck to the skirt to both lengthen the dress a bit and give some extra weight to the hem. The garment is so much fun and feels extra special to put on! Now where can I wear this? I can't wait to put it on! As a follow up to my Reel about this project yesterday, here’s some photos (and a short vid!) of the dress I made for National Hispanic Heritage Month, which is going on right now through October 15th! This dress fulfills a longstanding dream I’ve had to make a dress inspired by my birth country of Ecuador. Pattern: McCalls 8322. I made View B and added an 11” ruffle along the bottom. I am including here a short video showing the adjustments I made to the front bodice pattern piece as a sort of full bust adjustment. Not pictured is the additional dart I decided to add to each side after the bodice was already made, since I ended up with a bit of gaping along the front armhole. The delightful fabric is from Joann, part of a line of fabrics they released focused on Hispanic heritage. It features flags from Hispanic countries around the world! I bought it a few months ago and I’ve been agonizing over how to use it ever since. It’s a little on the stiff side, but in a way that works to the advantage of this garment. The skirt holds its shape nicely without a crinoline. The only issue I’m having with this fabric is that the dye seems to bleed a little. I’m dreading how it will fare after I wash it for the first time. The crochet trim I used was part of an astonishingly generous PR gift box I received last week from Design Group Americas, their way of celebrating National Sewing Month. I partly hand-sewed, partly machine-sewed it on. Tag Zamm, seid ihr auch so Fan von Lochstickerei? Ich finde diesen Stoff einfach unglaublich. Diesmal habe ich ein Schnittmuster von McCall’s genommen, dass M8322. Den Ausschnitt habe ich aber etwas entschärft, aber ich mache glaube nochmal ein paar Stiche mehr 😅 Unter der Lochstickerei trage ich einen Viskose Jersey in der gleichen Farbe. Zu der ganzen Kombi bin ich in meinem Lieblingsstoffstoffladen Ellenstoffe in Ravensburg gekommen. Es hat einfach was, man den Stoff anfassen kann, und sofort den passenden Kombi Stoff bekommt, das ist einfach klasse! Etwas habe ich Euch noch übrig gelassen. In Taubenblau gibt es ihn auch noch, falls ihr auch so Lochstickerei Fan seid. Auch das Schnittmuster habe ich direkt bei Ellen Stoffe gekauft. Meine Lieblingsverkäuferin hatte noch einen kleinen Nähtipp für mich parat, und meinte, ich soll erstmal versuchen, ohne Nahtreißverschluss zu nähen, vielleicht komme ich auch so ins Kleid rein. Kurzum - ich komme in das Kleid rein, es ist zwar etwas knapp, aber es geht. Also Nahtreißverschluss wegrationalisiert, sehr geschickt. „Too Hot Too Cold pt 15 🔥❄️“ Happy Tuesday shiny happy people! 🥰☀️ Still on the collection I started around 9 months ago - but, good news is, it is almost finished (two more dresses missing! 😁) This gorgeous print was in my stash for a year now, bought it @moodfabrics in Miami and it is a lovely flowey viscose fabric with silver lurex threads weaved throughout. It was clear to me that I wanted a maxi dress hippie style but did not know which pattern to use. In the end, I went with the top from #m8322 pattern and made a simple tiered and gathered skirt that is simply cutting up the fabric into strips and from there it is a lot of sewing together and gathering down. Time consuming but with a fun result. I must say I did not like the top of the pattern, I had excess width on the sides that I had to fix in the end to make it for a fitted bodice. Also, I had to ladder stitch the neckline closed around 3 inches (!) because that neckline was a bit too plunging for my taste. I made this dress at the end of last summer. I love her skirt, but unfortunately the top is a bit too revealing for me. When sewing it, I had to narrow the top and shorten the straps, but I still don’t feel comfortable in it. I’ll make one more attempt to fix the neckline - if that doesn’t work, I’ll probably turn it into a skirt.
