Totally forgot to keep sharing my holiday makes! So let’s continue… I realised recently that I don’t like how a gathered waist skirt/dress fits on me, so I’ve been trying to expand my pattern library to include some none gathered waist dresses and skirts. This was one of those purchases. It’s the McCalls M8036 I made it in this gorgeous cotton from @heysewsister.co.uk . Originally I was planning on making a midi dress in it but I didn’t buy enough fabric - I actually really like the length of this dress now though! Although I wore it on a bit of a windy of holiday and spent a lot of the day pinning it firmly to my sides with my arms until I realised if I tied it at the front it would hold still. New make! 🧵🪡 I loved this fabric as soon as we got it in at the shop and as I recently got some McCalls patterns I decided to finally put one to use! I really like this dress with the ruffles, just wish it was slightly longer so I feel like I could wear it to work more comfortably - but we had a day out today so it was a perfect excuse to wear it without having to worry about pulling rolls of fabric out 🤣 this fabric is a lovely patterned cotton! • M8036 • 🇬🇧 Another wrap dress done for spring & summer . The construction was pretty straight forward and a nice project for the weekend. This dress pattern comes with 3 different versions, I made View B with the shorter sleeves. Only thing I’ve changed: I added a strip of elastic with buttonholes to one side and a button on the other side to fix the skirt on the inside. The pattern suggests to add ties, but I find them a little annoying, they add bulk to the waistline and come loose easily. The elastic is much more comfortable . See last picture for reference… 🇩🇪 Und wieder ein Wickelkleid für Frühling & Sommer. Die Konstruktion war relativ simpel und perfekt für ein entspanntes Projekt am Wochenende. Das Schnittmuster kommt mit 3 Varianten, genäht habe ich Variante B mit kurzen Ärmeln. Das einzige was ich geändert habe: ich habe an das Innere rockteil ein Stück Gummiband mit Knopflöchern angebracht und auf die andere Seite einen Knopf zum schließen. Im schnittmuster werden Bänder empfohlen zum befestigen, diese finde ich allerdings etwas nervig da sie sich leicht lösen und zusätzlich an der Taille auftragen. Feeling a bit like Belle in this buttercup yellow dress 🌹 I finally got around to making #m8036 otherwise known as #sashamccalls There are so many stunning versions, but I started obsessing over this pattern after @jac_sewandtell made her versions. I sewed a size 8 even though I measured a 10 - why do the big 4 patterns always run large? I also swapped the sleeves for those from the dream frock, thought i'd get more wear. Hi all, I think I'm morphing into Cottagecore 👩🏿‍🌾 Oh well. I haven't been online for a while because it's summer and it's busy around here and this is our birthday month 🎂. Hope you all have been soaking in all that summer has to offer while she's here. Lord knows I have, lol, because around here winter is no joke. This dress has a lot of sweet little details, and I've blended a couple of different views to create this one. There are ruffles at the hem and at the cuff. There are pleats in the shoulders as well as the sleeves. The fabric has embroidered raised flowers in it, and it's soft and flowy. I love this dress. It's a proper unapologetic full wrap dress without pockets. Not what I was originally planning on wearing for my Christmas Day meal out, but I had so many issues with the dress I was making that I ran out of time! So I settled on wearing my #SashaMcCalls that I made 18 months ago, but having lost 24lb this year I've had to add new buttons and other adjustments to the waist as it was just too loose. I recreated my old dress! 🧡 I had an orange linen wrap dress from a high street shop that I love the colour of, but was way too short, too low cut, and kept blowing open. So I bought the #m8036 pattern, sold the dress, and started looking for the perfect fabric. Flocked linen #SashaMccalls from my #makenine2020 list. Been really looking forward to making this but when I started cutting I realised the view B sleeve was more tubular and not wider at the cuff like the illustration shows. So I decided to go with view C sleeves from vintage #simplicity8506 instead and they are my new favourite sleeves! So much movement 🥰 Since I’d cut the body first I had to redraft the sleeve head to fit. This is a straight size 12, midi length, with 14 waist but could have gone 16. Widened the top of the neckline by 1 inch each side, moved pleat a touch and redrafted facings to match. Really liking the shoulder pleat! I sewed a size 10 throughput but used the bodice from version B, the sleeves from version C and then extended the length of the skirt. Another matching wedding outfit 👯🦓 My dress is @simplicitymccallsuk #m8036 in view C. I shortened the bodice and skirt by an inch each, and added elastic to the sleeve bindings. Connor is wearing a @merchantandmills #allstateshirt (as always.) The fabric is a lovely cotton linen from @rainbowfabrickilburn I even managed to find matching buttons in two different sizes from @sewingandcraftsuperstore in Tooting 🤍 The real star of the show though is my me-made beaded bag! The beads caught my eye in @sostrenegrene, so i snatched up all the packs i could find, and was able to make it juuuust big enough for my phone and a lipstick. Well, it's been a while! I took a break from sewing in 2023 to go on an amazing adventure with my husband. But now I have exciting makes planned for 2024 and cant wait to get started again. I got this Mcalls 8036 made just before I had to pack all my sewing stuff into storage this time last year. I love this dress and considering the ruffles it actually came together very easy and quickly. This is a toile of the #m8036 wrap dress that I’ve had in my patterns box forever! It was one of the first patterns I ever bought. At the time I was so jazzed about it but it’s sat untouched until now. Sadly, I read a few negative reviews that kind of put me off it, particularly since I was so new to sewing at the time and didn’t feel confident to problem solve etc. Well, after finally making this toile I’ve come to a couple of conclusions: firstly, whilst reviews can be very helpful, I think it’s important to try something for myself. Just have a go. I may have a completely different experience. I nearly didn’t bother with this dress and while there are things I don’t love about it, it is a great pattern and was worth trying. Secondly, huge sleeves are not my jam. I knew this already, but I keep on trying… Maybe in a drapey fabric the sleeves would feel less obnoxious, since this is made from a cotton bedsheet. But I’m not convinced I’d feel differently. I do love the bodice and skirt though, and may try using a simpler sleeve in a future iteration. It’s so pretty. The drafting and instructions were great, imo. No issues i can think of. I’m between sizes so i just split the difference and used smaller seam allowances. Mostly worked fine. Should have used full seam allowances across shoulder and upper bust area. Another garment done... only 3 weeks after I posted the last one, I almost look productive! Honestly love this jumpsuit so far! We had a selection of double gauze fabrics in at work and loved this green as soon as I spotted it! We now also have it in a nice teal so I'm very tempted to make another one! I've combined two patterns for this jumpsuit as I like to be difficult. The bodice incl the sleeves is McCalls 8036. I am also making a dress using this but instead started this jumpsuit oops. The bottom is New Look 6493. They're joined together with an elasticated waist and tie to finish it off.
