Waistband ribbing from fabric stash. Alterations: omitted the lining. My son refuses to let me line it and I didn’t really have a compelling reason to say otherwise. So the inside is a little less-than-professional but my kid is happy and I would say that’s what counts. It’s time for the annual Shinkansen themed jacket spectacular! I really outdid myself this year with the pattern matching. Math was involved. BE IMPRESSED. Look at that perfect zipper, the hidden snaps. The expert topstitching. SO IMPRESSIVE. When you are bookish and well read, not many usually guess which character you are impersonating. Two years ago, nobody knew that Martha dressed up as Bookthief heroine Leisl. And not a single person this year knew who she was. Do you? Technically she is dressed in the Disney series iteration of Kate Weatherall from The Mysterious Benedict Society instead of the illustrated version from the books. We thought that would make her more recognizable 🤷‍♀️ To pull together Kate's look, I thrifted the blue striped tee and the mustard pants, plus the green beanie. Not exact, but a good representation. Not finding any baseball jackets at any thrift shops, I decided to try to sew one. I had a pattern from @mccallspatterncompany , #m7619. We were able to find this puffy, pre-quilted fabric and the mustard sweatshirt fleece at @hobbylobby . I had a big chunk of thrifted ribbing that matched a separating zipper from my mom's stash. And I embellished it with iron on stars. The jacket will make a cozy addition to Martha's wardrobe. A galvanized pail was sprayed red to become Kate's signature accessory. This jacket is the bomb! 💣 ❤️😂✂️🧵🪡 We sewed up this bomber jacket using #mcallspatterns #m7619 using a lightweight denim fabric and ribbed knit from @joann_stores We added the tabs at the end of the zipper because the rib knit was a bit soft and didn’t sit pretty on the end of the zipper. These tabs gave it a bit more structure. The rib knit is a bit soft for the denim but works none the less. Finding rib knit or premade ribbing can be a chore. A ribbed knit fabric on the bolt can be used or you can purchase precut knit ribbing in lengths that vary in widths depending on where you are using the ribbing. You can determine the size of the ribbing by the numbers. 2mm is smaller than 4mm The higher the number, the fatter the “rib” Ribbed knits with higher numbers tend to be heavier in weight. I have found most specialty ribbed knits online on Amazon and Etsy. @lws_trims has some fun ribbing pieces too. You could also consider removing ribbing from an unworn garment and repurposing it. We would love to see your projects that you used ribbing on. And we would love to help you make something with ribbing too!
