Three days into #memademay2021 and I I’m remembering how much I love putting on outfits and trying to photograph them. I used to do this a lot on my main account @bloomsdayreport in a game I called the #pantonechallenge. I stopped a while back, but it feels nice to do it again. These pants are the first garment I ever made, Vogue #v9181 in a cotton textured canvas that I found in my favorite section of @moodfabrics, novelty. The top is a #cielotop. The belt was a gift from @alexandrapaloma 🐚 [id: I am wearing a matchy-matchy t-shirt and zip fly pants outfit in a navy blue fabric that reminds me of how it looks when the sun is reflecting on water. Today is cutting, if not sewing, a muslin for #V9181. Sewing the full pant leg is a waste of fabric, thus laying it the pieces before cutting, with new pattern weights for #NotionCommotion. The purple cubes and clear cat heads were made by the kid when learning to pull glass. There are two sets from @thanksimadethem : first her notions set, and also a set that supported the Stitch Please podcast from @blackwomenstitch . I do not like podcasts. They don’t work for me. The pattern is perfect 👌 I didn’t have to make any changes. Boot cut is my favorite style of pants. It’s a super slimming style no matter your height or weight. The style hugs the belly and hips while slimming the things. The bottoms are wider so they elongate your legs which in turn makes you look taller and slimmer. #memademay Day 25 - adventures in #avocadodye! I documented the process a bit in my highlights too. This is my first time dyeing anything, and using natural dyes. After reading a bunch of tutorials online, I wound up mashing together a bunch of their tips: - I dried out 12 avocado pits, no skins this time. Put them in a big pot of water, brought it to a boil, simmered for an hour, then let sit overnight. - The next day I pre-washed my fabric (1 cotton remnant, 1 cotton tshirt) with hot water and baking soda, no detergent, and added to the pot while damp (after straining out the pits). - I brought the pot back to a simmer for about 30 minutes then left it sitting once again overnight. - Finally I removed them from the pot, air dried them a bit, then got impatient and stuck them in the dryer. - Voilà! I knew this is what it would look like but I’m not sure how I feel about this color on me/in my wardrobe! I tend to like big, bold, rich, loud color. So I’m gonna marinate on this before dying more stuff. Loved the process tho. The rest of my #memademay2021 look is my quilted #ayorajacket and Vogue #v9181 pants. [id: Me in a light pink avocado dyed tshirt, a lilac and navy quilted jacket, and navy blue pants that have a watery texture. First make of the year done ✔️ I actually started these before Christmas but then the kids finished school, the festive chaos began & so I decided to use the lack of sewing time at my disposal to take my machines in for a much needed service ✂️ One of the things I love most about making my own clothes is taking inspiration from garments that are way out of my price range & trying to recreate them. The trousers on the right were £299 full price, currently £149 in the sale! • Magenta • 🧞‍♀️ J’ai d’abord craqué pour cette couleur vive et lumineuse. Le tissu provient d’une petite mercerie près de chez moi. J'ai tout de suite pensé en faire un pantalon ✂️ J’adore la coupe du #V9181 de Vogue, ajustée au niveau des hanches et légèrement évasée en bas des jambes. Il est plutôt simple à réaliser, avec pour seule difficulté la braguette. Le patron prévoit une variation pour les silhouettes plates, moyennes ou plantureuses, un vrai plus ! 🔥 J’ai eu un coup de cœur pour ce tissu mais finalement je trouve qu'il n'est pas adapté au patron. Il n'est pas assez épais pour un pantalon, car il marque un peu trop les forme et n'est pas assez lourd. En revanche il serait parfait pour une jupe ou une robe 😏

Among my sewing goals for 2021 was to hack a pattern, and when I saw how @pippy_eve and @emilynatsai hacked the #m7969 dress into a button up blouse, I wanted to try it. I used this gorgeous fabric dyed by @shabdshabd and followed the directions that @pippy_eve posted in her stories. And it turned out...ok! I’d like to scoop out the neckline a tiny bit more, lowering and rounding it, but I think that’s going to be a task for Future Eleanor to tackle. For now, it's a nice addition on the more femme end of my style spectrum, not one I frequent a lot these days but one I enjoy flirting with when the mood strikes. Plus, I was thrilled to get to use these lovely buttons from @tabithasewer. Other new skills I tried out when making this shirt include: using my machine to sew on buttons, using the rolled hem foot, adding side vents with a French seam, and of course using @sewbakemake’s gathering technique. First try at hacking a top pattern to make a dress. Inspired by the “pretty much sold out” Designer Dress Collection at Target. I know it’s still a top! Why? Started with #mccalls7902 - added top ruffle - added another flounce - horsehair braid hems to add volume - skipped the buttons & loops(yes, with a lot of wiggling, you can pull this over your head)🤣 Well, it was wayyy to short for me so added another flounce. Seemed like a simple fix BUT that bottom flounce was just wrong.😱 Made the dress look & feel awkward... so I grabbed my scissors and cut those bottom 2 flounces off and tah-dah...I’m right back where I started.
