My partner and I attended the most gorgeous wedding this past weekend. The venue was, in his words, the "swankiest" place in Winnipeg, and I definitely didn't have anything nice enough, so it was the perfect project opportunity. The dress code was black tie/formal. I was tickled pink when another guest pulled me aside to ask me where I got the dress, as she'd been admiring it throughout the evening. ***** V9252 sewn up in a beautiful brocade from @leostextiles. Would highly recommend them! The pattern is rated as "Very Easy" by Vogue, but I added some details which greatly added to its complexity. ***** Sizing notes: I measure at size 6A, which is one size down from my high bust measurement. My full bust is already smaller than the 6A. I heard Vogue runs a little big anyways. Fit Adjustments: - Removed 0.75" of length at the waist - Removed 1.15" circumference at bust from the front pattern - Took out a 5/8" wedge on each side at the front princess seams at the upper chest after trying it on in my fashion fabric - Added total 3" waist circumference to side pattern pieces - Removed 5/8" wedge from the back bodice at the zip, blending upwards towards the bust - Added 5/8" to the side seams to prevent side boob flashing - Removed 1" from hem and used a larger 1" hem circumference (1 3/8" total reduction) ***** #v9252 #voguepatterns #petitesewing #petitesewists #sewxxs #weddingguest #sewformal #kwgarmentsewistsguild #waistbiggerthanhip #petitefashion #upperbiggerthanfull

It’s been one month since this most magical day so I thought it was high time that I showcased the dresses I made for my beautiful bridesmaids. All fabric is from @ladymcelroyfabrics and is a mix of their cotton lawn and viscose challis. I cannot emphasise enough how beautiful this fabric is, such incredible quality and it really felt like something special to make these dresses from. Yesterday I had a meltdown because I apparently just..don't know how to sew anymore and I wrecked yet another project. I have a CT next week so I'm a bit…anxious/depressed/don'tknowhowtofuckingsew.  Today I took the adorable and smart middle grandchild to JoAnns to buy fabric for her first sewing project: (former students prepare to be unsurprised) PAJAMA PANTS! Since it's going out of business, I judiciously bought a few things. In line, I invited the child to guess how much we spent. We were both off (by which I mean UNDER) by about $100, lol. BUT IT WAS A CLEARANCE SALE. #threadwascheap #M1143 Everything that is wrong with me in terms of my perception of my attractiveness can be traced to 40s and 50s fashion. I want to thank Gabrielle from @cloth_edit and Kristen (great name, by the way!) from @dahlia_sewciety for collaborating together to create this awesome sewing challenge #sewwrapped . I have had so much fun sewing this dress for my entry. The challenge created the perfect opportunity for me to choose one of my many wrap dress patterns and pair it with this beautiful fabric that I have had in my stash for a while. The dress is #v9251 ( renumbered to #v1734 ) by @mccallpatterncompany and the fabric is a beautiful rayon viscose from @spotlightstores I have made some changes to the construction which I have outlined in a previous post, if you want to check it out. I’m really happy with the way it turned out (those sleeves!!!) and I can see myself making it again in the future. There are a couple of issues that I did not foresee when I made my toile. -The skirt is quite heavy due to the extra layer when I decided to line it. I may have to figure out a way that I can attach a waist stay to support the extra weight. - Due to the weight of the skirt, the neckline has also stretched out a bit. There is not much I can think of to rectify it now, so I’m thinking about adding a snap to this dress (in these photos, I secured it with a safety pin), and I will probably stabilise the neckline of future makes with twill tape. I made a straight size 20, and the alterations I made were to lengthen the bodice by 3.5cm and I moved the bust dart down by 4cm. When I become more confident at alterations, I feel I might be able to get a better fit, but at the moment, I’m pretty happy with how this one turned out.
