A closer look at new dress pattern #v1844. It has a very a on trend 1960’s vibe. Shown here in black wool gabardine with contrast bands applied on top. I’d recommend sizing down if you prefer closer fit. Lined, fitted dress, epaulettes and center front banding with button trim, three-piece set-in sleeves with cuff detail, patch pockets, invisible back zipper. Wonderful Fall attire comes in other colors besides orange and black, and to prove it here comes my newest make - a lined, rather Mod looking long-sleeved green and blue mini dress. It looks great with boots and leggings! All fabric and Simplicity rickrack trim is from @joann_stores. I love working with metallic fabrics, and this one, which I grabbed sometime last year from Joann, features raised, rubbery silver diamonds. Ironing this fabric directly on its right side is a no-no, as that melts the silver diamonds, so while making this I ironed on the wrong side when possible, and used a pressing cloth the rest of the time. I used #Vogue1844 / #v1844 and was struck with delight upon discovering that it comes with variable cup sizes. I made Size 12 - C cup, grading out to 14 from the waist down. It’s very comfortable and is destined to be a new fave this Fall. The collar and epaulettes are secured to the dress along the neckline only, and then tacked down the rest of the way with a few buttons. If you make this be realllly careful when attaching collar to neckline that the epaulettes are aligned with the shoulder seams or you’re going to have a bad time later on. Another point of interest is that this dress would work PERFECTLY well without the collar, as a sort of basic Mod dress. Without the collar it would be a quick and satisfying make. I absolutely intend to make a collarless one, and/or may try my hand at making one with a self-drafted Peter Pan collar. I forget when I bought this pattern, but I am so glad I finally gave it a try!
