Detail pictures of my tulip print corduroy shirt, now with buttons attached! This corduroy is soft and lightweight, so I am still enjoying wearing it in the cool mornings. I spent half a day sewing and listening to podcasts and it was a delight for the following reasons: 1. My landlords weren’t home, so I didn’t worry that my sewing machine noises were annoying them. 2. I was making another button-up shirt from #voguepatterns #v8689 and it gets easier to make every time — just like my mother said it would! 3. The better I know the pattern the better I’m able to buy JUST the fabric I need. Beautiful floral shirt completed on time - it’s getting packed on an airplane early Friday morning. This fabric suits its owner so perfectly, she’s a flower farmer so it’s just like she is wearing her beautiful flower garden. Like always, I thoroughly enjoy the details and ‘fiddly bits’ with shirts (and jackets and jeans). A special shirt like this just called for some @kylieandthemachine labels. I’ve made enough shirts to have my own logical construction method which is not like the pattern instructions tell you. But I did the collar differently this time and used a tutorial from @beth_sunnygal blog (it was one of her first posts and I stumbled across it the other day). So easy. Want to see a mid-Summer update on my #makenine2021 plans? I like to sketch my planned projects and then paint the sketches when each project is completed. As you can see, I’ve finished 4/9 so far! I’m not terribly behind yet, but I need to get sewing!! To be very honest, I don’t know if all of these plans will get completed this year. When I made the list, my wedding plans looked quite different and didn’t involve any additional sewing on my part. Now, I’ve taken on at least one big wedding sewing project (and maybe two if I don’t fit in my wedding dress again by November…). But I think that’s the beauty of sketching out sewing plans in this way. These are good ideas, and I still want to pursue all of them. Shirt is #v8689 fabric is from the 'garment district' of Dallas shopping with @dallasstitchwitch swipe for a close up of the label. This shirt is a favorite, Christmas colors that I wear year around. And, it has snaps! Snap kits have been one of my favorite things this year. A box full of fun colors, plus pliers to make installation a snap. Everything gets snaps now.

Fancy Friday, that's a wrap on #memademay2019 💗 Bringing a fun month to a close with some patriotic colors, a little sparkle, and a some charming prints. 🇺🇲 I tried to do something different this month, and I hope that through all those selfies and Fancy Fridays I showed what's possible when it comes to sewing. My secrets really aren't so secret or groundbreaking: I use a lot of easy patterns, I use a good pattern over and over again, and I mostly know what works for me so I stick with that and don't worry about the rest. There were dresses and skirts and pants and casual things and special occasion pieces and a wide range of clothes that (hopefully) sparked an idea for you. That's what it's all about, right?! Just putting it out there: I love everything I've made this summer. 🍍 I don't say that in an icky way like "oh, it's all so inspired and perfect" because it's not. I say that because this summer collection is made up of a bunch of (mostly) separates that are really versatile and comfortable and, most importantly, wearable. I had some honest conversations with myself about the types of garments I'm most comfortable wearing and what I actually wear in my daily life, and the result is a group of clothes that meets those needs. (And not so many dresses.) These two are definite favorites: a classic navy blouse and a casual summer skirt with a little fruity personality. 🍍💃🍍My skirt is Simplicity 8133, and the blouse is Vogue 8689 (my current fave). Ah Spring - 81 F yesterday and this morning I needed a light jacket! But I'm not complaining about an excuse to wear my new corduroy shirt! The buttons and buttonholes haven't been put in yet, but it also works well as a slightly oversized outer layer. I have had this dreamy pinwale corduroy from @missmatatabifabric for several years now, waiting for the right project to do it justice. I'm in love with the design - cream tulips on a mustard background. The Vogue 8689 pattern has been a bit fussy to sew up, and I had a minor issue with the armscye drafting, but I can't argue with these results! I will post some detail shots too once I finish the buttons.
