Really needed my energising swim today - found it such a release! #vitaminsea Also got to test swim my new asymmetrical #v9192 (the pattern that keeps on giving) - and miraculously my right boob actually stayed in the swimsuit!! For sheer luxury I also made myself a little fleece/waterproof backed mat - to stand on whilst I get changed!! Happy Wednesday! This is my first bathing suit attempt ( #v9192 views c and f) and it was scary as heck to make! In my experience, you can’t really make a bathing suit muslin. This was supposed to be my wearable muslin, but I had absolutely no idea how it would fit until it was basically finished. I had a pit in my stomach the entire time I was making it, hoping it would turn out! I read multiple blogs before even attempting a swimsuit. I learned that you need to use 4-way stretch fabric and lining for a one piece suit, that you need cotton elastic and stretch thread in your serger (among other things!). This fabric is a nylon spandex blend from @voguefabrics. I read that you need to pay attention to spandex percentage when you are making your suit, so you can keep that consistent for the next one (or it might not fit the same way!). I lined it with the same fabric as I realized that the liner I ordered was only 2 way stretch. I will save that if I decide to make the two piece version of this pattern. Here are the alterations I made : - I lengthened the bodice 1 inch - I took up the leg opening at the side seam 1 inch and graded it out toward the crotch - I lengthened the strap area maybe 1/2 and inch. I am happy with the result. I am showing you the suit with the swim skirt attached for modesty. My hubby wasn’t wild about me putting a bathing suit shot on the internet for all to see! Next time I will add back in a bit of fabric at the widest part of my butt. This suit definitely stays put but had a little less coverage there than I like for my 46 year old rear end! Summer Time 🩵👙 I can't believe I never posted these photos!!! I have had this swimwear set made since 2021 but ended up moving to Jacksonville later that year, where the weather is just a little different than South Florida and you don't get as much time year round to wear bikini's. The first time my mom visited was luckily warmer weather in summer '22 so I took full advantage of her being my photographer and finally got photos in this set and now finally sharing 🤣 All the fabric is from @bluemoonfabrics the bikini is the matte nylon spandex and the cover up is the matching power mesh. Finally finished the swimsuit I started last summer.  If you remember, I made two swimsuits at once just to find out they were both too small. That really deflated my sew-jo, but I kept going and started another one. Winter came quickly, and it got too cold to be inspired. So I tucked her away. Fast forward to summer 2023. I need a swimsuit! Fast! It's hot! So I busted out my previous make and tried it on. She fits like a glove! AND all I needed to do was turn the elastic under!... I was geeked! and impressed with how it turned out from a remnant found for the low at Joann. Social Media Takeover Day 3// Greetings Sewing Friends! Today I thought I would share with you some more patterns that fall into three categories: ● Favorite of all time patterns ● Favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern ● Favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern Let’s discuss my favorite patterns of all time (so far anyway–@carlosvoguepatterns always has more Vogue patterns I covet!!). Because I couldn’t decide on just one, I had to showcase the amazing #v1802, #v1239 and #v9253. All the details about these makes are in my grid. My favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern is #m7983. I have played around with the zipper on the front and back. The fit is spot on without much adjusting (which is rare for me!). I get compliments every time I wear one of these skirts. I have made two with faux leather, one with denim (and a cool zipper twist) and one with a leftover scrap of wool/cashmere blend. My favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern has to be #v9192. Swimwear was definitely a white whale for me, and I am SO glad I tackled these two a few summers ago. I read MANY blogs before starting and purchased lots of specialty supplies (cotton elastic, hardware, wooly nylon thread for my serger among others). I have lots of leftover fabric, so I will be making another swimsuit someday soon! More soon! @kbb_couture

Après un week-end en famille pour fêter mon anniversaire direction le sud vers Orange pour quelques jours de farniente en amoureux :) Cette année je me suis lancée le défi de faire tous mes maillots de bain, et après moult hésitations quant au instagram or not, voici donc le 1er, copie sans vergogne d'un maillot Hermès (en dernière photo) mais qui ne m'aura pas coûté les 400 euros de l'original (glups). Next up is #V9192. I just happened to be in Joanns getting at swimsuit notion when I noticed Vogue was on sale and took at look at the catalogue. Came across one swimsuit in the entire book. I didn’t really know that the Big 4 had swimsuits. This one has the least amount of support and it had to grown on me so I wore it around the house to get more comfortable with it. This is a “let the tits fall where they may” situation. I actually had intended to make the top reversible but the way that the elastic was installed based on the directions… I’m sure I did something wrong to not make that happen lol. A bust adjustment was done on the top and an extension to get a bit more coverage because prior to that it would have been trying to wrap a string around my chest. I used wide bra strapping instead of elastic. No adjustments done to the skirt. I don’t do ruching often but when I do. I’m in Love!!!! Swimsuit making isn’t all that bad🩱Sometimes your fabric isn’t stretchy enough. Sometimes your machine wants to skip stitches when you’re stretching the elastic.
