What I wore to the @newcrafthouse #SewingProm on Saturday. Had such a great time! 💕 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ I had initially thought I’d refashion my original prom dress I sewed when I was 16 or maybe even just wear it but COULD NOT find it anywhere 🙄 So instead I wore my next most fancy thing - this three piece suit I made for my little brother’s wedding in 2021 (you can scroll back for more details!) with bonded satin crepe deadstock #gifted #NewCraftHouseFabric ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The jacket is a vintage Christian Dior for Vogue #V1985 pattern, bottoms are #MMEveTrousers with added side pockets and the top is a hacked McCalls #M6325 bustier (discontinued). Meet my pink satin extravaganza! 💕🌸 . Two weekends ago I had the pleasure of finally attending my little brother’s wedding (rescheduled twice due to the pandemic) and it was THE BEST. So beautiful and full of love plus he made the vegan wedding cake himself 🤯 A massive CONGRATULATIONS to Luke and Hanna 🥰 . The suit was made from #NewCraftHouseFabric gifted for being a Fabric Ambassador - more details can be found about it in a previous post. Some close ups of my Christian Dior for Vogue #V1985 blazer and details of construction for fellow sewing geeks… . This is a vintage pattern and is a size 12, so I had to size down according to my measurements - I did this in a bit of a botched way as I didn’t have any other size lines to grade with, so just divided the amount needed to decrease by between the pattern pieces. I figured my torso is quite long, so I could probably get away with not grading it down lengthways… it seems to be fine! I had to shorten the sleeves a lot and if I was being fussy would say they are now maybe a liiiitle short but never mind. . I used some proper tailoring techniques which I’ve never used before such as pad stitching, sleeve heads and shoulder pads. (Thank you to the helpful staff at @williamgee_uk for help with interfacing choice too 😁) . I omitted the welt pockets on the pattern and instead made lined patch pockets; another new technique for me 💃🏾 . This has been my most involved make to date and I took weeks making it which I think made it manageable to learn as I slowly went along. So the moral of the story is, if there’s a project you’re a bit intimidated by, just take your time! 😊 . The fabric is beautiful weight hot pink bonded satin crepe from @newcrafthouse [fabric gifted as part of the Fabric Ambassadors program] This fabric is synthetic so not something I’d usually work with, but I had the idea to make a satin suit for my brother’s wedding and threw all caution to the wind as it’s been delayed so many times due to Covid and I’m just really looking forward to the celebration! 💃🏾 Plus it’s deadstock so it has been saved from waste already 😇 The lining is also deadstock purchased from @selvedgeandbolts (how do people choose to work with viscose all the time?! So slippery 😳) . The trousers are my #TNTPattern @merchantandmills #EveTrousers (mods: added 2cm to rise, made waistband 4cm deep to accommodate larger button, added in-seam pockets). I procrastinated over which jacket pattern to use (Heather Blazer came close) but settled on this vintage #V1985 Christian Dior for Vogue suit jacket that was already in my stash. I’d used it before for my Clueless Dionne costume so thought it’d be a quick sew, but didn’t realise how many steps I’d left out last time 😂 .
