It's a well loved make if I wear it within 24 hours of finishing it 😂 best dress to wear to lunch and then to see Wicked! 💕 I'm a bit obsessed with Vogue patterns recently, their designs are a bit more advanced and I feel like I learn new skills whenever I make one of their garments. Pattern is the #v2005 in View A, without the sleeves. I bias bound the sleeves, and I also didn't line the dress as this is a practice sew before the 'fancy' fabric! (I sewed a size 6) Fabric is linen from @themakersocietyaustralia and buttons are from @spotlightstores Overall a very fun and easy make, I think this dress took me 50-60 hours to complete, so it's definitely more time consuming than my usual stuff. The fit of this dress is unreal, I've previously struggled with the sizing for vogue patterns, I think I've finally figured it out. Next up is this pattern, same view but with sleeves in the Liberty Tana Lawn I bought in London, almost a year ago 🥹 I will also be lining it!

Initial appearance is a deep, dull violet, that remarkably brightens after 2 hrs in the decanter. Small bricking around the hue. Powerful upfront, big, concentrated ripe and perhaps a little stewed cassis and black currant, with secondary notes of dark plums and pencil shavings. If I had to guess, the grapes are NW Barossa and they are at their full throttle best. A little astringent, but carried over the full body and medium plus finish well. Drinking beautifully now but needs at least 3 hours in the decanter, however there is life left in this yet, drink over the next 5-7 years. Romance. @domaineponsot '05s are still so youthful and yet, with air, this was a wonderful drink now. Opulent, layered, very fine tannins, some gas, but with aeration, it became finer and finer. I've always been a fan of Ponsot's Griotte Chambertin and although this is atypically powerful and lush, as you might expect from '05, it still had the class and finesse that i love from this label. Vogue V2005 Sometimes when you can’t think of what you want to make you need to visit a new fabric store. Last week I was thinking about making something new to wear for Thanksgiving. I didn’t need something new and I had plenty of fabrics at home but I wanted to but nothing felt right. Feeling a little blah late on Thursday afternoon I decided to go visit a new fabric store in Philly @approved.textiles . It is a lovely cozy little shop with natural fibers, I loved browsing block prints in person and chatting all things fabric & sewing. While this isn’t my typical color pallet something about it just kept drawing me back. As with most cottons my initial idea was to make a Jenna shirt. I needed about 2.5 yards based on the width for a longer Jenna. There was a little over 3 yards so I got it all. When I got home I looked in my paper pattern collection and pulled out Vogue #v2005 and it just felt right if I had enough fabric. With some smart cutting I was able to cut view A with view B sleeves in a size 13, which even surprised me. I used a tan plain viscose for the lining. I didn’t make any alterations but I did work the pattern differently than the instructions. First I cut the front skirt pieces on the fold rather than having a center seam. I also sewed the lining as a lining rather than an interlining as the instructions wanted. I also sewed the front placket closed since the buttons are decorative as there is a zipper in the back. Overall this was a fun sew. The bodice had a lot of pieces and at times was hard to see what was happening and where the ruffles were going. This dress feels so far from what I usually make and wear. It’s giving pilgrim or prairie chic in a shade of stuffing. It also reminds me of a 90s Tuscan theme kitchen or restaurant deco. But also I love it! For me this is an example that sometimes you can’t decide what you want to make you need the fabric and pattern to decide for you. This is my first out of two entries for #sewfruity24 being run by Yvette @blossomsandwich. This exotic fabric features some grapes, pomegranates, red berries and I'm not at all sure what else along with some gold foil detail. 😁. I've had this fabric in my stash for quite a while and didn't really want to cut into it but hey it was just too perfect for a fruity challenge🍇🍇🍇 Since I bought this pattern it been on my 'must make soon' list. It's Vogue 2005 and I made the long dress (version B) with the short sleeves from A. I decided to make it out of this cotton lawn but on reflection I think it would have been better in a viscose. I still like it though and I'm sure it will get plenty of use.
