Vogue 9286 in a wool/bamboo blend from B&J Fabrics. Swipe for the back view and guts. About those guts: are those bound seams? Why yes! Not pictured: the wealth of stay tape stabilizing all those bias edges. I cut the V neck on a single layer and didn’t move it at all until it was pinned to the tape beyond all budging. I have sewn my last wonky V neck, thank you. Here is the pattern and more construction details of the dress. The pattern was missing the sleeves, I had to draft my own sleeve, which was frightening, since it’s part of the unique design.. . @raythemastertailor and @themodernhalo asked about cufflinks: I simply used two buttons and buttonhole thread, using a buttonhole stitch to create a stiff “link” - see photo.. . This dress is difficult to get in and out of, there is a zipper that goes up the side bodice, but the skirt uses a snap to close.. . Early make makeover! I made a #V9286 soon after I started to sew clothes (about a year ago), and I made a whole bunch of the normal rookie mistakes, and I never wore it! I didn’t like the fit, I didn’t like the pattern, I didn’t finish it properly, etc etc etc. (Swipe >>> to see the first iteration of this skirt. 👀) But man, oh man did I love the fabric. (A remnant from @lensmillstore.) I went back and remade the skirt this weekend, and I love it now. I know I chose the wrong pattern for the fabric, but after taking in the darts, bringing up the hem, finishing the seams and re-attaching the waistband properly, I will get more wear out of her. Here’s to levelling up and remaking what you’ve got! This skirt is surprisingly comfy, so it’s great for wearing while I WFH. It’s also the perfect skirt to wear while making plans to move all your holiday celebrations online, no matter how much you miss your family (I do too!). Stay safe out there, everyone. These COVID numbers are bananas, and we all have to do our part to get them down. 💕

I’m harassing all of you tonight because I didn’t think there’d be interest in this dress since it’s blue and covers a lot of skin, which is against Instagram culture 😂. I’m providing more close up shots and details of the dress like the notched shawl collar, the Italian blue buttons (literally ordered from Italy to be able to match this dress), and the hand made cufflinks.
