Made a new evening dress! This was such a fun style to make-I’ll always love a giant sleeve! I made my usual fitting adjustments to the pattern: shortened the upper bodice by one inch and the sleeve heads to match. Also shorted the sleeve length by an inch and the overall length about two inches. I haven’t been to very many weddings. I wasn’t raised on ceremony of any kind so I can get a little overwhelmed. Howevverrr, celebrating love and friendship is so lovely and it was a beautiful night ♥️ This dress/fabric pairing was a gamble (see last slide🌝). The #V1723 dress is a simple tent shape with HUGE sleeves and a sweet bow closure. I think the dress really sings in simple prints. But I saw this fabric online somewhere and couldn’t turn away! The fabric is obviously a little busy. Some people take out the seam down the front and cut straight on the fold but I wanted ALL the volume. I also lengthened the bows in the back, but with the busy print they’re pretty hard to see. That’s why I went for pulling my hair back. Then I got nervous my legs were out for a winter wedding and bought sparkly tights. Paired w some sparkly boots and a red lip and I felt like a princess ballerina!! My dream is to one day collab with @lupemotatattoo to design a tattoo flash style fabric that’s got more than white skinny girls on it 🫣 I made my partner a matching bow tie from a free pattern at hellosewing.com 💍 Size 10 no mods, just lengthened the bows a bit

What a fabulous night! @newcastleaustraliaftocktails last night at Port Scratchley Thanks to everyone who came to make it such a great night. So many wonderful outfits and friendly sewers. I managed to finish my outfit two weeks prior which is amazing for me!! My outfit was a hack of two of my favourite patterns. The top is #ashtontophack by @helens__closet which I have cut one shoulder, using a French curve ruler. I made a bias around the edge and placed a loose elastic to keep it sitting firm. I added a #V1723 sleeve with a self made sleeve head to hold this up. The pants are my favourite #chanterellepants pants by @sewliberated I continued the side seam to the waist, to remove the pocket. My fabric had a small border which I used down the side seam, joining this painstakingly together. I had to cut each piece separately to use the border edge, so yes there was one piece that I cut wrong way which brought tears. I found a similar lace at Spotlight to finish where I had run out of border. Such a combination of seams- French seams, 3 needle rolled hem and hand stitched pulling the border together. I am very happy with the result and it was comfortable to wear. The lace fabric was bought in Thailand and lined with linen from Spotlight. Linen is not my usual choice but the color I wanted. Sew | Vogue 1939 made into a dress. I used the short version of Vogue 1939 blouse as the bodice with sleeves from Vogue 1723 (minus the lining). For the skirt I used the Assembly Line Cuff Dress skirt pattern with an elastic casing through the waist. For the button loops, I used bridal elastic loops from The Remnant Warehouse, turning in 2 out of 3 loops. Choosing sleeves for #v1939 dress hack. The original pattern sleeves are in the fabric and you can see there is limited shaping with significant gathering at top and bottom of sleeve. There’s too much fabric when I wear them. Thinking I’ll try the sleeve from #v1723 (pattern piece. It has nice shaping at the shoulder with a nice amount of puff. And it fits onto the fabric cut piece 🤗

Day 7 of #memademay. Wedding bound! Vogue #v1723 and #v1834 in silk georgette and organza from @moodfabrics. I didn’t want a center seam down the front of the dress since it’s sheer, so I had to reduce some of the fullness of the skirt, maxing out the 45” width of fabric at the bottom. Also opted for a couple buttons at the back of the neck instead of the tie, shortened the mock neck, deepened the slit at the top back, and went with a length between the short and long view. #memademay2022

In December 2024, I formulated some general sewing goals for myself, and following them, made these 4 pieces. For Outfit No. 1, my inspiration was loosely taken from a pattern I have in my stash that I didn't want to sew right now, Vogue 1723, a Ralph Lauren design. I love the black and white combos of that pattern! For my outfit, I took the RL turtleneck sleeveless top as the model for my top. What I made is close enough, a funnel neck black ITY sleeveless top. The pattern I used for the top is OOP Butterick 4347, a TNT for me. Because I didn't have to spend time adjusting the pattern, it only took around an hour to finish. This was the first time I sewed the pattern for the elastic waist skirt and was pleasantly surprised to see that it has a loose mermaid silhouette. WHAT! I absolutely love it. It was a quick project that only took around an hour and a half. I'm petite, 5'1," and shortened it to raise the knee point around 2". Wrong move as it ended up being a little too short. To give it a little more length, I just zig zagged the raw edge at the hem. I'm not a sewing perfectionist and it doesn't look bad, so I'll probably just leave it like that. With my extra fabric, I'm going to make a matching cropped sport top. For Outfit No. 2, I finally sewed the denim waistcoat that I cut out last year. Glad it's done. The weather's been cool since I finished it, so I haven't worn it yet. As soon as it warms a little, I'm definitely wearing it. In the pic, I paired it with a vintage Butterick 3046 maxi denim fitted skirt that I also just finished. Maxi denim skirts were trending last year, but I'm ok with being late to the party as I love it. That's what I've sewn so far. Well, that's it for now. I would like to leave you with some words of encouragement, but it's looking very dire right now, and I don't want to be fake, so I'll just say, with all sincerity . . . #V1723 | My Halloween / Day of the Dead dress! 💀 For $5/m at Spotlight, I couldn’t resist dabbling into sewing with satin. So far, I’ve only exclusively sewn with stable wovens (e.g. cotton, linen etc) but I wanted to try this pattern that’s been sitting in my box for months. I cannot tell you how glad I finally did! This is also the first time I sewn a bubble sleeve, and it was A LOT easier than I thought, silly me for overthinking this one! Quick hack: dress to blouse. This garment has been on quite a journey already!… It was one of the first items I made. It’s actually @vintage_vogue_patterns #v1723 that I tried on & the high neckline looked AWFUL on me! So I hacked it to a v-neck & felt much happier with it. I wore it a few times but have since made many more dresses that I much prefer, so I haven’t worn it in the last year or so. Then I fell in love with the Essentiel Antwerp puffed sleeve top & thought that if I chopped this up then it could have a similar vibe.… for a fraction of the price (£130 😳😳😳). I’ve put a bubble hem on this top though to mirror the sleeves. I like that I can tuck it in at the front but enjoy the bubble hem at the back. Not exactly a new make (I created it for the wedding of our dear friends Emily and Jamie last summer), but realised I hadn’t shared here. The fabric, from @moodfabrics is a run of silk charmeuse panels (Italian Chains, Straps, Flora and Leopard Spots), which I bought in early 2023 with no end purpose in mind, but knowing it would make a beautiful special occasion dress. I deliberated for many hours as to how I should place and cut the pattern. The decision to incorporate the stripe dividing the panel was inspired (if I say so myself!). The pattern is Vogue #V1723 which I shortened to sit above ankle. That was the only modification. Love it when you have a clear vision for what you want to create, and it all comes together beautifully.
