I chose my size based on my hip measurement, but they didn’t turn out as loose as I’d expected, prolly bc I made the side-zip version. I’m not mad though. I haven’t decided if I’m gonna hem them or not, so here they are unhemmed. @sewover50

I’ve always loved this style of blouse - but have only really seen it available in soft pastel colours. The joy of making your own clothing means choosing the style you’d like in the colours and fabrics you’ll love! This is Vogue Pattern #v1939 in a blended fabric of cupro 47%, linen 31%, tencel 22% which I fell in love with when I saw on a summer visit to @tessutifabrics in Melbourne. The drape of this fabric is just dreamy, and it’s so soft and lovely to wear. I cut size 14 as per my body measurements, I added 8cm to the length of the bodice A (it’s still rather cropped and sits just on the waistband of my high waisted jeans, I can’t imagine what it would have been like had I not added 8cm 🫣) I created the pleated bodice detail of view B. I constructed with French seams where possible and self bound the set in sleeves. I added a more than appropriate @kylieandthemachine label from the Sweary Sewist collection. The tiny brass leaf buttons have been in the stash for a while, and I think they finish it beautifully. Vogue 1939 @simplicity_creative_group sewn in @libertyfabrics Liberty Tana Lawn from @illuminationfinefabric My friend @go_kate_sew posted this pattern on her stories and we started talking about it and she mentioned how great it would look in some Liberty. I had this Magical Mystery Tour length that’s been marinating for the perfect pattern and voila. View A, size 10 with the sleeves shortened one inch bc I’m short. I’m planning to wear this with high-waisted pants and jeans, so the crop length works for me. (Here, the Target shorts again 🤣). I finished this last night except for hand-sewing the ten buttons. Finally finished a product i really love. Have been having a run of items I’ve made where I don’t like the finished product on me. This however I spotted on someone else’s IG page and loved it #vogue1939 and I did a mix of view A & B. I did have a slight hiccup along the way. Decided to try it on when the front and back got stitched together to make sure the fit was right. Nothing more heartbreaking than hearing the fabric tear as you take it off. Turns out those helpful notches on the neckline created a weak point in the delicate fabric 🤦🏻‍♀️ With no spare fabric to replace the back piece I decided to pattern match a patch and just blend it in. A top I made using the Vogue #v1939 that I had my eyes on since it came out earlier this year. The fabric is a simple quilting cotton from sewingdoingshop on Etsy. Modifications: lined the front yoke in addition to the bib and french seamed the side, arm and armhole seams for a cleaner finish. Also I took out a approx. 2cm wedge from the front, easing into the side seam, which resulted in one button less. The label is from @lapetitemaisoncouture. Finished 9th of august 2023.

Vouge #V1939 is an advanced blouse pattern, and I felt every bit of it so, yeah definitely took my time. Plus, I was working with the pretty floral Chiffon from @fabricland.canada, which frayed every chance she got. 🤕. I loved this challenge, though, and I think it turned out pretty well. For most of the seams, I did French seams, but in some places like the gathered areas ....I couldn't do a French seam...at least I didn't know how I could and still have smooth seams so I serged there. Now I need to make some grunge patchwork denim long shorts to go with this top! 😃 I'm entering this top into the April Blouse 2024 contest. Thought I would add a few more thoughts on my favorite blouse, Vogue 1939. Sizing: I cut a 14 which is one size down from size recommended for my measurements. I checked all the pattern measurements and I thought it would be fine with the exception of the length. I’m tall and it is quite cropped. So I added length to the bodice so it hits exactly at my waist. Construction: I loved the construction. Although probably not beginner friendly IMO because of the curves on the front yoke. (However, the instructions were easy to follow so maybe an adventurous beginner 🤷‍♀️) The front yoke is lined. So all the seams on the front bodice are nicely enclosed. Fabric: Purchased @stonemountainfabric This color combo is a favorite but the bonus, it is a quality viscose challis with a beautiful drape. I truly love how it turned out. I get compliments every time I wear it. Sometimes I even admit that I made it 😉 #sewover50july #voguepatterns #v1939

Sew | Vogue 1939 made into a dress. I used the short version of Vogue 1939 blouse as the bodice with sleeves from Vogue 1723 (minus the lining). For the skirt I used the Assembly Line Cuff Dress skirt pattern with an elastic casing through the waist. For the button loops, I used bridal elastic loops from The Remnant Warehouse, turning in 2 out of 3 loops. Choosing sleeves for #v1939 dress hack. The original pattern sleeves are in the fabric and you can see there is limited shaping with significant gathering at top and bottom of sleeve. There’s too much fabric when I wear them. Thinking I’ll try the sleeve from #v1723 (pattern piece. It has nice shaping at the shoulder with a nice amount of puff. And it fits onto the fabric cut piece 🤗

I was going to use a different @libertyfabrics silk but I did have enough so I reached for this #Deadstock @rainbowfabrickilburn I wavered a little thinking was it the right choice. In the end it’s won me over. There are so many details in this make but if you take it in your stride you will surprise yourself on how it comes together.
