PFI’s Graduation Fashion Show was fantastic!! Pics/video to come (John was the videographer). I just love a good fashion show - especially since I know the designers! I was the first sewing instructor for many of them (I’m like a proud mom). I wore the dress I recently made using fabric I purchased in Paris! I wore my newly made #vogue1802 dress to a very happy black tie dinner recently at which my lovely husband was guest of honour. As a result I didn’t get any photos of the frock so some prancing in the garden today for some ‘dressed down’ pics. I love this dress. The fabric is beautiful- it’s an organic bamboo silk from @raystitch which I bought a couple of years ago and was a bit fearful of cutting into! It has a fabulous drape and feel although a little tricky to sew. I did make a toile, paying particular attention to the arm hole having seen a very helpful you tube tutorial by Mari Sews. I reduced the size by around 6cm and I also lengthened the main part of the dress so that the gathered tier was lower. I didn’t like where it sat on the pattern. I graded between medium and large in the toile - but went with medium for this version. It doesn’t lie quite flat on the upper bodice so more tweaking needed next time. As with other makes I replaced the hook and eye with a piece of hair elastic and a big shiny button. I love the high/low hem and long neck tie - it looked OK tied in a bow at the front too. I will finish the toile and wear it - I love the high neck - great for hiding an aging crepey neck! 🪩 2024 sewing backlog continues 🪩 This was my third #v1802 made for @visio_electri_ to wear to a 1970’s themed fundraiser last June. The mermaid-core, Halston-esque fabric she picked out. I lined it with periwinkle silk georgette from @moodfabrics (also used for the pockets!). The fabric was a slippery, glittery nightmare to work with but so pretty! However, to my grave I’ll regret not orienting the grainline vertically, alas. I love this pattern so much, it’s such a treat to float and swish about in hoards of beautiful fabric. Which, as I’ve noted in prior posts about #v1802: the lined version requires minimum 4-5 yards. The bottom ruffles are greedy. The first dress I sewed! The pattern calls it very easy but when I first started it in Sept 2023 I was in over my head fast. I picked it back up in April 2024 with a serger to make it cleaner and more sewing skills! It came together quickly and it was a perfect wedding guest dress. I love the dramatic, oversized flare, bow detail in the back, and it has pocketsssss. Making it in a bold red color felt like a no-brainer. My rookie mistake was cutting a size too big for my high bust (the only measurement that matters due to the GENEROUS ease), but still made it work and am very proud of it! Deets: Pattern: #v1802 (an underrated pattern!) Fabric: Tango Linen Look from @joann_stores (85% viscose, 15% linen) Size: M, which was a mistake—I had too much fabric around the neck and arm holes. I fixed it “good enough” and learned some valuable lessons on not simply making whatever size the commercial pattern says I am, but using finished garment measurements and thinking through which measurement is most consequential for the specific garment Mods: had to take in fabric from arm and neck holes because I picked too big a size Level: advanced beginner will make light work of this! #giantflowertextile 🏵️ Als @juliaallissoncost vor einiger Zeit diese riesigen Dahlien-Drucke gemacht hat, war es natürlich um mich geschehen, den Stoff musste ich bestellen. Ich liebe Dahlien wirklich sehr! Wir haben sogar extra später im Sommer geheiratet, damit ich dann Dahlien in meinem Brautstrauß haben konnte. Und ich freue mich, dass das #V1802 -Kleid genau so geworden ist, wie ich es mir vorgestellt habe und das schöne Motiv so gut zur Geltung kommt. I’ve finally made up a fabric I classed as one of my “precious” fabrics - you know - the ones you think you might consider saving in a fire. Pattern: main body is #burda6628 and collar is #vogue1802 I wanted a pattern where all the flowers were on the bottom in order to accentuate the border. The longer the garment the bigger the impact of the border, I was thinking. For Bay Area Frocktails 2024, I picked a dress I made in 2021 (!) & a bag made earlier this year. The dress is #v1802 feat. fabric I would buy again in a heartbeat if more ever popped up, the bag is self drafted and the jacket is secondhand Dries van Noten

So here is my latest make. I am a very lucky lady to receive this beautiful silk crepe kindly gifted to me as part of the ambassador program. Its vogue 1802 in @minervadotcom Exclusive silk crepe 'babelone Art' , not a problem at all. It has a lovely drape and feel to it so it is fabulous to wear· Firstly I wanted to line the dress as I felt it would fall better and this is very special fabric so it deserves to be lined. So that meant I didn't have to finish the armscyes with bias. I also decided I wanted the tie at the shoulder instead of at the back. I was inspired last week watching a sewing bee and saw the dress @suzysankeystudio was wearing was not dissimilar to this pattern but she had the bow on the shoulder so I thought I would give it a go. Firstly I had to change the construction a bit as the way the dress does up is with the a bias edged opening at the centre back seam so I decided that the side of the bow shoulder would have to do up with snap fasteners, so I added a bit extra on the side of the bow to the shoulder seam so that I could have an overlap for the snap fasteners to fix too, I also added a bit of fusible interfacing to that edge on the underside to stabilise it. Because I had no need for a centre back seam now I just took off the seam allowances and cut it on the centre fold Lastly I added a 7 inch frill to the bottom as I seen a few people do that on social media and I preferred it…I also added 3 inches to the length of the main dress so it's ended up a fair bit longer but I am more comfortable with that. Me Made May Day 26 and here’s my third post.😅 Reached for the biggest, breeziest piece in my closest for a graduation celebration. Biggest because it needed to still fit and breeziest because it was 95 degrees out—too hot to tie that neck bow so yeah, those ties were hanging loose. Might prefer this as a maxi now. Social Media Takeover Day 3// Greetings Sewing Friends! Today I thought I would share with you some more patterns that fall into three categories: ● Favorite of all time patterns ● Favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern ● Favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern Let’s discuss my favorite patterns of all time (so far anyway–@carlosvoguepatterns always has more Vogue patterns I covet!!). Because I couldn’t decide on just one, I had to showcase the amazing #v1802, #v1239 and #v9253. All the details about these makes are in my grid. My favorite “easy but looks glam” pattern is #m7983. I have played around with the zipper on the front and back. The fit is spot on without much adjusting (which is rare for me!). I get compliments every time I wear one of these skirts. I have made two with faux leather, one with denim (and a cool zipper twist) and one with a leftover scrap of wool/cashmere blend. My favorite “most proud but darned scary to make” pattern has to be #v9192. Swimwear was definitely a white whale for me, and I am SO glad I tackled these two a few summers ago. I read MANY blogs before starting and purchased lots of specialty supplies (cotton elastic, hardware, wooly nylon thread for my serger among others). I have lots of leftover fabric, so I will be making another swimsuit someday soon! More soon! @kbb_couture

Feeling a tad self conscious while Mr P takes his photographing seriously by crouching on the floor! 😂😂 A day out in London to celebrate a dear chum’s big birthday and first outing for my top version of #vogue1802 . The fab fabric was a gift from those lovely people @abakhanfabrics for using at our demo @abakhan_chester last week. I loved the dress version and the top was a straightforward shortening of the length with a little of the width removed at hip level. I left the rise and fall hem. Again, I reduced the armholes by several cm’s. I left the collar width as per pattern this time and because the fabric is so soft it falls nicely. I probably could have shortened the back tie. @sew_on_sunday sewed a magnificent dress with my dahlia #giantflowertextile panel. She cut the dahlia panel in half which created this absolutely striking and modern look! She used the #V1802 pattern, lined it with viscose voile, and used piping to create a frame between the plain white half and the dahlia half. I especially love how the necktie incorporates more of the petals down her back!!! Such a brilliant creation Nadja! 💕🌸 A special heartwarming detail: Nadja loves dahlias so much she had even chosen a wedding date in the middle of summer so that she could have dahlias in her bridal bouquet!! I’m so glad she has a dahlia dress in her wardrobe now, and I’m very touched that she got a bouquet of dahlias to photograph with her dress!
