I bought this top pattern #v1809 a couple years ago, and finally got around to picking fabric and making it! It’s a #VoguePatterns 1940s reproduction. I do think it turned out pretty cute but I don’t think I’ll be making it again because 1. It’s too tight around the neck for my preference and 2. I don’t like how the yoke is wavy across my chest instead of straight like it is in the pattern drawings. That said, I do think it’s a cute look in this viscose from #BlackbirdFabrics (purchased several years ago) and with my bull denim #YasmeenSkirt aka my fave fitted skirt pattern ever (fabric also from @blackbirdfabrics). Sew I finished the Vogue 1947 Blouse. Well I thought I had until I realised it needed snaps at the back as I was on my way out the door, (I’m going to add another green vintage button instead). The cutting out of my toile was easy, but there are a lot of pieces to this top, and lots of interfaced sections and lots of interfacing on the interfacing. And 45 steps to make it. Which is actually easy to make, just time consuming. The next one will just be lined. It’s big and I mean really big. I made the XXL thinking it might be too big on the shoulders but I have a smaller bust than average for my size and the front even with its darts is very airy. I took the sides in by a couple of cms. The tulip petal sleeves have an error on the pattern so I had to figure my way around that. But would I make it again. Yes! Now I can use my Vintage fabric and make the long sleeved version and I can wear this pink one to work and my arms fit! 👏 #voguepatterns #v1809 #1947blouse #memadewardrobe2023 #sewover50

At this point I am completely fed up with myself and this pattern. After reading through the very first instruction on this pattern, I decided I don’t trust it at all. But then I completely missed a step while doing my own thing. Top stitching is involved, and I don’t think this fabric can survive removing it. Today I’m revisiting our historic restoration project from four years back, The John McKee House c. 1796, which has one of the prettiest courtyard gardens in Charleston. It’s 90° and muggy - a sundress and flip flops kind of day for sure. I’ve fully lined Donna Karan’s Vogue 1809 in cotton batiste, which is how I prefer summer dresses. Pattern review you didn’t ask for 😜 I made Vogue pattern #V1809 with a fun tropical printed rayon from @fabricland.canada I looked up some other makes from fellow sewists here on IG so I had heard about the drafting errors on the sleeves before I started. The underarm seams don’t match on the sleeves but it’s an easy fix. I just added a bit of length to the smaller side and graded it to match the curve. The directions are pretty straightforward and it was easy to follow along. I would suggest adding the sleeves before the yoke as there isn’t much room left at the shoulder and I did have to remove the topstitching so I didn’t catch the yoke in the sleeve. See images 5&6. Anyways, I just need to sew on some buttons and it’s all done. Super cute! I think it would look nice with a pair of @truebias #lander pants. #memade

What is wrong with this picture? How exactly am I supposed to match these seams? Am I missing something? This does not inspire confidence in this Vogue pattern, and I’m feeling rather grumpy about it. I have already cut out all of my pieces from fabric, and I don’t have enough to recut anything if there are more of these drafting issues. I guess now we are expected to walk each and every seam line before cutting?! 🙄 By the way, it’s a Vintage Vogue reissue, Vogue 1809, from earlier this year. A classic sheath dress, made a few years ago with OOP #V1809 in an Ungaro woven cotton. The fabric is a heavier weight - meant more for a jacket - but I thought it needed to be a dress 😊. It has a lapped, handpicked zipper and the facing is understitched by hand. No underlining, as the fabric has plenty of body (bonus: it also doesn’t wrinkle!). So, I went rummaging thru my stash on Sunday to find this fabric I’d purchased @joann_stores a couple years ago. I wanted to make a dress to wear to a funeral. I only had a yard. Ugh, so this won’t work! This must have been all they had. I bought three yards of the red; why in earth would I only buy 1 of the black. Oh well🤷🏽‍♀️. It was just enough to make #oop #V1809. I made this dress once, in 1998 from a lilac crepe fabric printed with daisy’s.😍. But the fit was off and I never liked wearing it even though I wore it often. Anyway… 25 years later here it is again. It still fits weird. This time I made bias binding from the scraps for the sleeves and the neckline. I like it but the fit is still off. If it had an inch more room or if I were smaller, it might work 🤔. But then again I may just need to redraft the whole pattern 🤦🏾‍♀️. The hips are too high and the dart placement for the bust is off too. I really do like it!
