This was my first try of Vogue 1968. I went by finished garment measurements and found it too big. It took 2 days to take the entire dress apart. I hope to recut the pieces and see if i can save the dress. Stay tuned. #v1968

One of my sewing plans this year is to participate in as many contests on Pattern Review as I can, because I love how the boundaries of a contest spark my creativity and motivation. March’s contest was “Little Basic Dress,” and even though I don’t wear dresses too often, I had picked up Vogue V1968 at the last Joann $4.99 sale because I liked the asymmetrical seaming. The stipulation of the contest is that the dress must be made in a solid color, and entrants must include photos of the dress accessorized for both formal and casual occasions. Based on reviews by others saying this turned out too big, I made this in a straight size 8 despite my measurements being closer to Vogue size 10. I also omitted the side zipper since my fabric was pretty stretchy. The fabric is technically a rayon sweatshirt fleece, but its weight is more like a jersey and it has nice drape. Once I got it all cut out, it was a fairly straightforward sew and I was able to do a lot of the construction on the serger. I struggled a bit with the required accessorizing and the asymmetry - I think this dress works best when simply styled.
